I'm gonna give it a C, seems expensive but it's about the going rate I suppose and he fills a need here.

I really like this move. He's getting paid about what most decent role players get paid. Yeah he's making more than Plumlee but Olynyk will play the 4/5 where Plum only played the 5. I really like the shooting and scoring that Olynyk gives us.

This has Gores written all over it. We just paid $12.3 Million per year to an older Luka Garza, whom some of you think we wasted a 52nd overall pick on.

Does anyone truly think Kelly Olynyk is worth Mason Plumlee + $4 Million + 20 draft pick drop + using capspace next season?

First post... First time, long time

Why are people flipping? Dude had big-time numbers once he got dealt to Houston.

Explain to me how this is worse than Plumlee... We just got better.

This is a lateral move from Plumlee imo. A better shooter, a worse rebounder/rim protector. Wouldn't be surprised if we're giving up draft capital to move on from this deal a year from now.

I'll never understand how some of you still have blind faith in Weaver.

Don’t get it. We trade plumb because of his age and sign a player longer term that is only 11 months younger.

Can't forget about the 2 more years of dead cap hits for Smith + 4 more years of dead cap hits for Dedmon that were required to endure just to sign last years crop of free agents, including Plumlee.

Olynyk comes here knowing he's coming off the bench. Plumlee signed in Detroit to start.

KO can also back-up Grant at the four and play with Stewart.

Grant|Olynyk|Doumbouya
Stewart|Olynyk|Garza

Sekou spends the year with MCC getting 35mpg. Or is traded.

I'm ok with it. He was expected between mle-12. He got the 12. So it's not shocking.

Great spacing on offense with Stewart/Olynyk/Garza.

More skill ya add the more it costs. Putting my trust in Troy. I was expecting the 11ish per so its slightly more but no complaints.

Lol I did not expect this man to be averaging 19 PPG 8.5 RPG 4 APG on 55/40/85. 27 game sample size or not.

Don't think that's confirmed anywhere that he's coming off the bench

One thing to keep in mind here, when a free agent signs with the Pistons mere minutes into free agency, its a pretty clear indication that Detroit was offering an overpayment that that player's camp obviously felt was too good to turn down.

In other words, Olynyk didn't expect to have any other suitors at that price point.

Can’t complain about it.

A much more offensively skilled mentor for Beef Stew.

Makes the team slightly more competitive.

Can’t expect a multi-year tank from a winning organization
You need 2-way wings, 2-way shooting bigs, and you can't allow low iq players on the court. Assist/turnover ratio is crucial. Shooting point guards are icing on the cake IF they are plus defenders.
Weaver & Casey, govern yourselves accordingly!

Not sure I buy that. He got the going rate.

Kelly is from Canada, Toronto didn’t need him. This is a way for him to get closer to home while getting a decent pay day.

I mean, sure he did. He got the rate that Detroit offered him.

Doesn't necessarily mean there were other offers in the same range.

I guess its possible he just wanted to be a Piston. But there is no clear tangible reason or connection to the team that I can think of off the top of my head. So $ was likely the biggest factor in his decision.

It's not a flashy move, but he's a better shooter than Plumlee. I assume that's Weaver's rationale for the signing.

I give it a B.
