Guess I am officially getting old, because these are terrible. Hopefully they are temporary.

The ridiculously prominent “Platinum Equity” logos are especially gross.

It’s a fairly new arena. Why did it need new courts?

I'm surprisingly welcome to the 313 court. Looks fairly clean and modern, looks like Gores finally got someone competent to develop the logo and the color schemes to match

But the Plat Equity like BJK1 said is so bad, and it's huge too. No one cares Tom

I don’t mind them. 313 is nice, surely some new uniforms as well.

People that whinge about Tom Gores, dudes spent how many $ on the Detroit Pistons and he can’t put a logo on the court? Let up

Truthfully, as someone who's never lived in or near the Detroit area, the 313 thing doesn't mean a thing to me and I don't care for it.

I fully acknowledge I'm not who they're targeting with it though.

And yeah, the massive space being devoted to a private equity investment firm isn't going to play well with the rank and file fans. It's definitely pretty icky.

I think the area code repping is an overall strange fad for people in any city. Looks odd on a court to me as well.

I could live with the 313 alternate court, I guess, but the new primary court is just terrible. The super imposed giant logo, the stark departure from the classic design, all of it is just really bad.

I can’t understand why the Pistons are so eager to flush 40 years of brand equity with their classic look, between the Bad Boys and Goin’ To Work eras, down the toilet to chase fire emojis on Instagram. Are they really expecting that big of a merchandise bump from Cade Cunningham?

Overall, I like it. I just wish the Platinum Equity script was larger. I can still see a lot of the court.
Tom Gores' Securus faced a class action lawsuit in 2024. The company engaged in a "quid pro quo kickback scheme" with county jails in Michigan which banned in-person visits in order to maximize revenue from voice and video calls.

Usher in a new Pistons era maybe, or something like that.

The court is actually in removable individual pieces; it gets taken out for hockey games and put back in for basketball, so whatever. Don't care much, really.

it feels like a trend in sports marketing to go hyper-local (for lack of a better term) with these designs. you see it prominently in the nba city collection uniforms, like the brooklyn nets coogi sweater, and across sports, like the cleveland guardians being based off of minor landmarks in the city.

if you're in the city, it feels like a good thing, and if you don't know what it means, well, it's not designed for you anyway, so tough ----.

i'm with you, i don't really like the 313 logo and i don't like what i see as a larger trend. graphic design and marketing should be fun for everyone.

Going hyper local is good though as it creates more of a "connection" to your city and your team.

For out of state or international Piston fans it might be a issue but I'm sure many if us have seen 8 mile and know what the 313 is.

Putting a skyline on a jersey or court is funny to me since so many teams have done it but I'm born and raise in Sydney Australia with Centrepoint Tower (Seattle Space Needle) so

The Pistons aren’t a team with many followers from all over the country- I’m in the very small minority of Piston fans who have never lived anywhere near the 313 area code- it makes sense that their marketing won’t cater to me. A team like the Dallas Cowboys or La Lakers will take a different approach since they tend to attract fans from farther reaching regions.

But yeah, the Platinum Equity thing needs a scale down. It’s obtrusive.

In order of importance we are Platinum Equity above Detroit Pistons in terms of text sizing on the new court.

Ugh.

It's also curious. I could have sworn when I looked at this tweet a few days back that it showed the center of both new court renderings along with Platinum Equity on both sides. (compare that to the 313 court pictured on the left)

Now the right photo has been shifted so that it's less apparent just how big Platinum Equity really is in relation to Detroit Pistons on the logo.

Is this a reality or am I wearing a tin foil hat here?
