Predict contrats for Saban Lee, Diallo, and Frank Jackson.

Post#1 » by bstein14 » Wed Aug 4, 2021 12:54 pm

Pistons reportedly have interest in bringing all three guys back. The thing to remember is, anything they sign for this year cuts into next years cap space as well.

Saban Lee: 2 years $4 million He proved last year when he got minutes that he belongs in this league. He's still likely a 3rd string PG for this team, but that is a position we need to fill. The PG that doesn't play on a nightly basis but is able to step in if/when an injury occurs. He would then at the end of this contract have played 3 years with Detroit so they would have his full bird rights. His goal would be to use these two years to get better and end up working himself into a backup PG role by the time he is ready to sign his next contract.

Frank Jackson: 3 years $10 million He's proven he's good enough to be a rotation player now, but he is still young and lacks defensively. I actually think is offense pairs nicely with Cade. He's good enough to be the 9th or 10th guy in your rotation giving you some offense off the bench for 12 to 16 MPG.

Hamidou Diallo: 3 years $18 million Big time athlete still really young with a ton of upside. Likely signing on for some backup SG duties but also has the potential to move into a starting role in time. He might want a player option for year 3.

That's pretty much what I hope to see. There's the chance that Diallo or even Jackson get a better offer but if it's close I want to match and keep them.

All three could flourish with Cunningham and/or Olynyk on the floor.

Lee and F.Jackson will be 3rd stringers, probably 1 year minimum contracts

Diallo will probably be more expensive than I would like 3/20?

Detroit needs cap space to be able to match Frank and Lee. So if a team wanted to poach one they'd offer a matchable contract to Diallo first and get Detroit to use up cap space to be unable to match.

I doubt any team will be interested in poaching Lee, I could see Jackson perhaps getting an offer sheet though because shooting is always valued.

I think Diallo will get a bigger contract than some are comfortable with, something in the 3 year $24M range. He's a must sign now too because their roster is a little short on athletic defenders and is big on shooters so Diallo fills out their needs nicely.

I’m not as in tuned to CBA details any longer, but I was under the impression that as RFA, the team could be over the cap and re-sign them.

I like Saben Lee. I’m not sure where he fits in our rotation with Hayes,Cade, Joseph.

Diallo I can take or leave. I want Frank back.

Hard to imagine Weaver trading a pick for Diallo and then letting him walk. Wait, it isn't hard at all.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

Cade isn't necessarily a PG and Joseph is only a stopgap, plus injuries happen. There's absolutely a spot for a young athletic guard like Lee on this team.

They need Diallo a lot more than F. Jackson. This team doesn't have many athletic defensive stoppers, he fills a more important need than Frank.

Neither am I, but I read it somewhere that they only have early Bird Rights on both, so could only match up to a certain percentage based on last years salary and anything above they'd need to have capspace for. Frank for sure, Lee might be different based on being a second round pick and being in a two-way previously.

Yes, COJO & Lyles will be signed with exceptions, that can only be used when teams are over the cap. These RFA's will be signed first, going over the cap, then COJO and Lyles will be added with those exceptions.

I don't think that is tied to being a RFA, that has to do with having bird rights, which I do not think you have on 2-way contracts, only on Diallo. I think they can work it with the ball park estimates above and bring back all 3.

Frank Jackson shot 3.1 catch and shoot threes per game on 44% shooting in 18.5 mins a game.

Evan Fournier shot 3.6 catch and shoot threes per game on 41% shooting in 30 mins a game.

I really hope we sign Frank. He would play so well next to Cade.

I think now that we have more shooting, Diallo can be effective and want him resigned.

Josh Jackson took more than 11 shots a game last year. He took the second most shots on our team. He shot 30% from three at 4 attempts a game. He needs to be buried on the bench or traded.

To be fair you can apply that line of thinking to J. Jackson as well. I would rather have Diallo but the new spacing is also going to help Josh. The Pistons have an interesting assortment of players that can attack the rim.

Only so many minutes though and $$. I’d rather have one of them and Frank Jackson than Diallo and Josh.

Man I have a bad feeling Frank Jackson won’t be resigned. I would be disappointed, but would understand.
