Game 2: Detroit Pistons (0-1) vs Houston Rockets (1-0) Tuesday 9PM EST on ESPN

Post#1 » by ComboGuardCity » Mon Aug 9, 2021 7:44 pm

Let's call this what it is: Cunningham vs Green

Other than that I'm tuning in to see:

1. Cade the individual - can he defend and can he create his own shot against fringe NBA talent

2. Killian - please for the love of god drive to the rim and seek contact

3. Bey - Continue to Iso and work on creating his own shot.

4. Sekou - Play defense and drive to the hole

5. Lee - distribute

6. Everyone else: hit open shots and defend so I can focus on 1-5

Round 1 went to Green as he cooked Cade on his first appearance i believe he dropped 23 points on 9-of-18 shooting (including 4-of-9 from 3), with only 1 TO in 30 minutes of play.

Really looks way more polished and more athletic player than Cade from watching the two play their first games in summer league type atmosphere.

Will be interesting if Cade's intensity ramps up and if he stops deferring to his clearly inferior teammates

I think you have to temper the comparison with consideration of what was expected of each player. Certainly Green is a flat out scorer so it's likely his only role was to play like the #1 option, and he did just fine. Cade however likely was asked to be as much a facilitator as a #1 option, if not more so. Point being Cade's success in his role has some dependence on the performance of others, and outside of Bey they all sucked balls. Now, if that doesn't become a teaching moment not only for Cade but for how he's coached then I'll be extremely disappointed. I'd like to see Cade acting more like the #1 option when his teammates struggle.

Sprinkle a few clear outs for Littleton and I’m on board

Things to watch for in this game;

1- The timing and chemistry of Cade, Killian, and Saddiq.

2- Can Tyler cook separate from his inner Eric Ebron.

3- are any of these other players with keeping on the Motor City Cruise.

4- honestly that’s it. It’s preseason, they need to work on getting up to speed. Anyone cares about preseason wins and losses, the lions season isn’t that far off.

Yeah, count me in the camp that wants to see Killian be even remotely aggressive and look to score.

He is far, far too passive. When he has possession of the ball it seems like his 1st, 2nd, and 3rd thoughts are to pass the ball.

Summer League is precisely the time/place players should be using live game reps to build on what they should have been working on in the offseason.

I also would like to see Dubois show he has even a modicum of coaching strategy and feel for game flow.

This. As long as Cade comes out with some fire and establishes himself as the number one option on his own team, I'll be happy. This isn't college anymore. Show us what you got.
You need 2-way wings, 2-way shooting bigs, and you can't allow low iq players on the court. Assist/turnover ratio is crucial. Shooting point guards are icing on the cake IF they are plus defenders.
Weaver & Casey, govern yourselves accordingly!

It's going to be a real **** show here for a while if Cade goes 4-13 for 12 points and Green drops 30 on us. This is Green's first chance to show Weaver and Gores they messed up and he is going to try to go at us.

That is all.

If you thought realGM was hard on Cade dont read Reddit NBA they got 2 500 page threads roasting him. Hopefully Green misses some shots tomorrow and Cade plays more efficient.

My 2 quick observations:

1. The summer league coach seems in over his head. I question whoever put him in charge. After watching his postgame interview I’m pretty discouraged that he’s leading this group.

2. All of the summer league games that I’ve watched have been super sloppy. Not to make any excuses for Cade because he definitely needs to adjust to the NBA speed but it’s extra challenging to look good with bad rotations, goofy coaches and Tyler cooks.

If Cook starts again, I may turn it off immediately.

Why would we start (and give a majority of the C minutes) a guy who we just waived? Over two other C’s we drafted and are still Pistons???

Other than that, it will be Hayes/Cade/Bey/Sekou vs Green/Christopher/Martin/Sengun

I can't even imagine the level of hot takes we are going to see if Green handily outplays Cade, the GB would have a field day

Suggs just had an awesome game as well. If Cade gets outplayed tomorrow better not open socal media, realGM, or reddit general basketball talk if negative Cade talk bothers you.

If Cade has a poor showing I may have to take a few mental health days away from NBA-internet

I admittedly didn’t watch the game but Suggs went 9-22, was he really that good?
