Pistons win total O/U poll

Post#1 » by buzzkilloton » Sat Aug 14, 2021 12:56 am

So the over under finally came out. Its 25.5 tied for 4th with the Rockets. About where I expected coming into the season. On a positive note we very likely will have great odds to be top 4 again.

Okc 23.5
Orl 24
Pistons 25.5
Rockets 25.5
Spurs 28.5
Cavs 28.5

I might be a homer but I want to say over.

If things click, I think 30+ wins is a possibility.

It's an easy over if we don't end up tanking down the stretch. I feel like we're likely to tank down the stretch and rest the vets again if we're not within reach of the play-in games. I think we're a 30 to 32 win team, BUT Weaver also has shown he is fine pushing the team towards a top pick if it is where the team needs to go down the stretch of the season.

I’m taking the over. We’re better than last year and we won an adjusted 23.

Call me crazy, but I think we're winning 32 +/-3. Our defense is going to be good. We have the players to be a pretty good offensive team if we find the right rotations and can get it to "click".

I’m guessing we will be 30-33 at best

Were the o/u from the betting markets close from last year? Hell, was anyone from last season correct in their guess predicting our record?

I'd maybe take the upside for a slight over. By all star break will tell a lot IMO

If coach Casey has them playing hard every night like last season coupled with the development of the you guys plus the roster improvements, I really feel that it will be over unless the "Weaver stealth tank" is put in motion later in the season.

I predict over because even if we go into "play the young guys" mode, that's basically our normal lineup sans Grant anyway. Guys like Cunningham/Bey/Stewart should be able to win some games with hot shooting and solid D.

Pistons were 23.5 last year. I remember their was a similar discussion last year and everyone thought we would be better then that. Actually in general when these get posted I've found most fans for the Lions/Pistons on diff internet boards usually like the over. People really zero in on what their team did in the offseason to improve and dont catch that everyone else improved as well.

I think 25.5 is a really good line they made. Thats 5.5 games over last season. We lost some close games and also tanked some but of course many teams have similar things with injuries, resting guys, or just plain tanking. Figuring were going to be running Cade/Killian alot of minutes I expect many mistakes over the season. I voted under but this line is tough I surely wouldnt bet it.

This isn't last year, and unless Cade has an absolutely brutal rookie season, +growth from all the guys, they are winning between 28 and 35 games.

Injuries of course change the dynamic.

Remember, last season was 20 wins from a 72 game schedule, not 82. We finished with the second worst record, but only had the 6th or 7th worst point differential. We beat a number of good teams and tanked very effectively against the lotto competition overall.

It’s not a sure thing line, but I’d bet over if I were forced to bet. My prediction remains 31-51.

I said the same thing last year, but you have to factor in youth and unapologetic tanking.

Over. Over. Over. I don't have any doubt we will be over. Unless we give up early and tank. But we should be over without a doubt.

We had an expected W/L last season of 26-46 (29 or 30 wins on the 82 game schedule). We fell short of that expected mark, due to a combination of late season tanking and just general failure to win close games.

It's not difficult to imagine us actually getting to that number of wins this season. A lot riding on how the youngsters do. If the SL is any indication, they've still got work to do.

We're gonna be pretty bad this year. I can imagine a scenario where we are bottom 3 again. I can imagine a scenario where we're in the low 30s due to progress from our youngsters.

I'd probably place our O/U a couple of games above where they have it, but I don't think it's super unreasonable.

TL/DR- I reluctantly take the over, with all of the wishy-washy caveats you've all come to expect from me.

That's a pretty damn solid record from them then. I think the end result will be closer to the 25 to 28 than a lot of us thought. If we win more than 35 games, that means Cade is basically the real deal

Over. But it will be close. I'd bet the under on 30.5 wins for example.

29 wins is my guess.

“Restoring” us to the glory of picking just outside of the top 3 again.

I'm in the over camp. Somewhere between 27-33 wins, even if they tank out a bit at the end of the season. We've upgraded our scoring without losing much of our defensive ability, the youngsters are growing and Cunningham helps too.
