[Lawrence] Pistons in Mix for John Wall
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

Yeah, this has been discussed in a couple of threads. I just don't see how it would happen. A lot of smoke within that tweet.
1. Rockets didn't do too bad with the Harden return, given the position they were put in.
2. Houston can't expect to win a trade for Wall. His contract is ridiculous and any team trading for him would have to expect draft capital or prospects in return.
3. Piggybacking on my last point, what would Detroit legitimately return to Houston to take that albatross of a contract on? Just try to make the salaries match and tell me how Houston would expect to "win" a deal with Detroit. It would likely have to include Grant and Joseph to start. And why would Detroit include favorable contracts that expire concurrently to the timeframe of Wall's? We'd need to be receiving multiple First-round picks, or be flat out doing Houston a favor. And F-them
No way the Detroit portion of this tweet has legs.

Sounds like someone trying to drum up interest- either the Rockets or Wall’s people.
That he makes no sense for us should be obvious and self evident.

Re: [Lawrence] Pistons in Mix for John Wall
Unless a third team is involved we’d have to package grant, olynyk and Josh Jackson (Hayes’ salary fits as well).
And because of when we signed olynyk we’d only be able to trade him in December.
I wouldn’t be too against it personally just because his contract would run out when we’d want to have cap space but it would 100% take their unprotected first round pick, which they’d be crazy to move even to get rid of wall’s contract.
So really I don’t expect anything to come of this.

If there was a way to do it and get their 1st I would be down but it would require Grant and other things which makes it too much of a loss

Re: [Lawrence] Pistons in Mix for John Wall
How? Why? It makes no sense. Unless an unprotected 1st is coming back, no dice. The sheer number of players the Pistons would have to give up to get him is stupid.
Season starts October 6th people, don't forget!

I agree, after two years of progress, why hit the reset button again?

"We have to win this trade".
How delusional is the Rockets front office to think that they'd win a trade trading one of the worst contracts in the league.
If Weaver gets the Rockets unprotected 1st plus, why not? Only two years left on the deal and I'm assuming a buyout, that'll be hell of a way to weaponize cap space although not sure how they fit in the dead money this season. I doubt there's any legs to this anyway, it doesn't seem feasible for the Pistons even if they wanted to do it.

Thumbs up for adhering to the haiku format.
Except that a haiku is Japanese.

Doh! I knew this! <kicks my apparently-culturally insensitive self>
At least I didn't SAY it was a haiku, but that's totally what it was.
John Wall -- a brittle, wrapped up in an injury, inside a contractual stigma.
There, that's a different kind of poetic.

Indeed. Although I would have used stoma there instead of stigma.

Sounds like the Pistons trade for and then buyout Wall. Thus, they can play the young guys and lose another year to get another top pick and still round out the salary cap room.

One Houston exec: “We have to win this trade.
Detroit is the obvious target, Weaver is just terrible in trades, so yeah, that rumor makes a lot of sense.

What? So you don't like Saddiq Bey? Isaiah Stewart? Jerami Grant?vege wrote:One Houston exec: “We have to win this trade.

Two rookies that made the all rookie teams?
What about Saben Lee?
Which trades are terrible exactly? You said trade(s) so that means more then one.

Re: [Lawrence] Pistons in Mix for John Wall
A helpful reminder Wall makes an insurmountable $47 million per year this year but is an expiring. Minimum we would have to give up Grant and KO just for salary along with any other scraps we would have to work around. It's just not feasible, near an impossibility from an ideal standpoint

This is incorrect.
He has a player option in 22-23.
