Nets trade Sekou and a 2nd round pick to Houston.

Post#1 » by bstein14 » Wed Oct 6, 2021 12:36 am

Crazy that the Nets had to include a pick to get rid of Sekou's small contract. Seems like someone would have taken him for nothing. Houston does give back a Miami 2025 second rounder in the deal.

Houston even is reportedly planning on just waiving Sekou... So even a rebuilding Houston team doesn't have a roster spot for Sekou. Will be interesting to see if any NBA team picks him up for a contract or if he just goes back to Europe to play.

Nets followed up with the Sumner deal and saved approx 8 mil

Hard to believe that Sekou will be without a team at his age after seeing some of the games he had for us.

I'll lol if he gets picked up by Toronto though

I believe at one point San Antonio was reportedly interested in him... Not sure if they have a roster spot still or have seen enough to pass on him but you'd have to imagine at his age he will at least get a two way contract offer somewhere if he wants to stay in the NBA... he might just prefer to head back to Europe and make more than he would in the G League.

I didn’t think he’d have great value or maybe even good. But to be traded with a 2nd for I’m guessing a pretend 2nd so another team will waive you is a pretty surprising fall.

Fully expect to see him sign at least a two way with someone. It’d be odd to see him completely out this fast

poor Sekou. DET did him dirty but at least he's now completely free to find a suitable spot where he can finally be given an opportunity unlike DET. It'll be tough sledding though. G.M.s like to win with their guys i.e. guys they drafted and developed, so at best he'll need a slew of injuries where the team that picks him up has no choice but to play him so he can show he's deserving. It might never happen

Detroit gave him plenty of opportunity, his lack of basketball skills and completely non-chalant approach to the game is more accurately what did him dirty.

I mean, I think the trade we made for him pegged him as having neutral to negative value, so this lines up with that, no?

I’m glad he left the Nets but now Houston is waiving him? I mean they’re really lacking in talent even worse than us so I think it’s safe to say sekou has no value in the league and he’s starting from scratch. I think he’s just not aggressive enough for the game, maybe too young for it, he really needed to play hard basketball but I think he was soft mentally and physically.

For all you guys who love their athletes. This is a great example of what size athleticism gets you but can’t get you past the real deal because of lack of talent skill and work ethic.

Henry Ellenson is the starting PF for one of the teams in Spain's top league. There's a job for Sekou somewhere overseas.

Sekou a bum of a player. Has no desire to be a decent nba player. He'll be out of the league once his contract expires. Sad but true

Houston is waiving him so he might be out of the league now, unless another team is willing to give him a deal. Might not be able to get more than a 2 way contract in the NBA though.

Man, getting to the NBA level is just extremely hard. I don't think it's a matter of him being lazy. Yes, he may not have the drive of someone like Grant or Beef Stew, let alone Lebron. I think as others have noted, he hasn't done much to demonstrate he belongs in the NBA.

Not a knock truly. Certainly a wake up call if he needed one.

The only thing we did wrong with Sekou was put him out of position as a Spot up shooting PF last year and he failed to make that work for himself. If teams arent willing to take a flyer on him I'd go back to Europe mature and fine tune my game for a few years then come back to the NBA.

Have you watched Sekou play? It's like eating a bucket of dog s**t so you can get to the Hershey's Kiss hidden somewhere in it.

The Spurs are signing him. Pop and Tim Duncan turn him into an All-Star/max contract kinda guy. We'll look like chumps as soon as tomorrow's pre-season game. Fortunately, we have a long way to go to catch up with the Lions.

The Rockets had to waive a player from their 20 man preseason roster in order to complete the trade. The loser in this game of former Pistons dominoes was Khryi Thomas, whose three year contract wasn't guaranteed. All this just to waive Sekou.
