Pistons second unit, the Poutines

It may be a bit premature but it appears the Canadian contingent is taking over the second unit. Olynyk, Joseph and Lyles plus Jackson and Diallo looks pretty effective. Could this be Casey's revenge for Toronto?

The Poutines, hopefully the Deadly Poutines.

I think so. that gives him the most opportunity to be a focal point in the offense.

I feel like him and Joseph have a chance to start. Jackson and diallo are decent scorers off the bench. The starters lack creators without them.

To start the season its going to be;

Hayes
Cade
Bey
Grant
Stewart

How long that lasts is anyones guess.

KO should come off the bench. We already have 3 main scorers in the starting lineup in Cade, Grant and Bey. Beef Stew will be the rebounder and Killian will be distributing and playing great D.

KO will have better opportunities to score with guys like Diallo and Jackson and much of their energy will be spent playing great defense and they will love having KO able to pick and pop to. Lyles and others to. Pickett is a good 3 shooter, and don't forget Frank Jackson. Man we have a lot of good shooters, our roster is full of good scorers and shooters.

Killian and Cade will be the best backcourt in the league in 3 seasons and it won't be close. These two will just be a nightmare defensively and hopefully Cade will be a great shooter and I have little doubt Killian will be a much better shooter when he gets 50 NBA games under his belt.

There's another aspect to think of, and that's age. If this team starts winning some and halfway in to the season we are very much in the playoff hunt, then the older players of course will continue to play good minutes, but if it's clear that we are not in the playoff hunt I look for Weaver and Casey to then back off minutes on the older guys like KO so that the young guys can continue to grow together as a team.

This team is young and you can see Weaver wants them to grow close on and off the court. The older guys are here to teach and also here to contribute to winning while the playoffs are a realistic possibility. I look for the team to do some altering to minutes later in the season depending on whether the playoffs are a reasonable expectation. It will be very interesting to see how it plays out.

I like the optimism. I don’t entirely share it, but it’s refreshing anyway.

Time to bring back the Alternatorz.

If the bench unit is CoJo - Diallo - J Jackson - Trey - KO I think that's a fairly solid bench unit. Of course Trey is an unknown but its already clear he's a major upgrade over Sekou.

Will be interesting to see if Saban Lee and Frank Jackson earn themselves any rotation minutes. I have a feeling we could look to move CoJo at the deadline to a contender if he plays well, for a future pick and more so to open up some space for one of the younger guys. Of course some of that may depend on where we are record wise, and how Killian looks to start this season.

Off topic but I'll throw it in here since he was a bench player...I saw an Okafor game-worn road jersey for sale online for $599.99.

Six
Hundred
Dollars

For a Jahlil Okafor jersey.

Who in their right mind would even pay $150 for that? Now, I will clarify that I'm not a memorabilia nut. While I certainly can afford to pay $600 for a piece of sports memorabilia there's not many items I would throw $600 at unless it was something that was under priced, i.e. a guaranteed investment if I needed to sell it, and something that I appreciated personally as sports memorabilia. Like an Isiah Thomas signed game-worn jersey for $500 or something like that. Although maybe if you buy that Okafor jersey you give your team a better shot at the #1 draft pick.

I'd make Hayes part of the second unit.

Pretty much, Stewart starting the first preseason game was a pretty big tell.

And like jakebernat said, olynyk coming off the bench allows him to be a focal part of the offense. He also wouldn’t have to guard the embiid’s, KAT’s or jokic’s of the league.

Yea count me in as a fan of the Poutines. CoJo, Olynyk, Lyles have some good chemistry and really space the floor. Josh and Diallo add that athleticism and defense they need. Love Frank Jackson though, not sure how that’s gonna work out.

I hope Cade/Killa works out and is at least somewhat effective so that bench can come in and coast. I expect them to close out some wins. Excited about this season.

That's how I'm looking at it. Let Lee run things for The Cruise, getting 30+ min. a game and by the deadline, CoJo can be a part of a trade package, with 1 of the 3 wings(JJ,FJ or Diallo). Jackson should get minutes due to his 3pt shooting.

The second unit beat the starters 80-51 in practice today.

Hayes / McGruder / Bey / Grant / Stewart lost 80-51 to Joseph / Diallo /Josh Jackson /Lyles / Olynyk. Frank Jackson was also on the bench team, not sure about the other subs. https://t.co/NQWYsH6g0m

Agreed. I like him being the lead scorer on the second unit. Every time that I watch Hayes play is that I feel like that I am back in time watching the Hawks try to run Lou Williams at the 1.

It will be interesting to see if KO, CoJo and Lyles all have chemistry from day one due to their playing together on the Canadian national team.

At leasy when you draft/sign Canadians you dont have to worry about them being unhappy with our weather.

I think we should look to move Diallo and Joseph later in the season, I hope we eventually see a three guard rotation of Hayes, Cunningham, and F Jackson, with a little Swabian Lee on back to backs
