And there it is, Cade is out for the opener.

I had a feeling he would be. So according to Casey, this was just a minor thing before any preseason games. Now we are starting the regular season without him. That is just unbelievably horrible luck for Pistons fans

He feels he can play and wants to play, but we're not letting him play. I don't think there is any other conclusion you can draw besides that after that jornal entry he just made. Perhaps we're saving him from making it worse but in reality if he's out there ptracticing without a brace he is only going to sit for a very short time before it becomes a bigger issue for him. He's obviously antsy to get out there.
Oct. 20 is a big day. First game. Opener. I get to officially join the NBA, and play my first game and get my feet wet. I’m excited for it. My people are going to be deep. Everybody’s coming out for that. I’m trying to get ready for it. My ankle is doing better. We are getting there.

He might be back for the 2nd game at Chicago because that isn't for a few days and they did say Cade returned to light practice so that is encouraging. But no doubt we would all want him to be 100 percent and ready to go before he plays, so we just wait.

The MLive article also said Olynyk is starting.
Is this a fact?
I thought Stewart was starting.
If the team is suddenly doing merit based starters, I’m not sure why Killian is starting.
Might as well be Joseph or Lee.

Kudos to the Pistons for announcing the guy is out! Let fans make the decision of not showing as oppose to lying/misleading the fans as though he's going to play

Load management him as much as needed. We only need to build chemistry up this season. Why rush him in? Just basically don’t piss him off either

I had to check to make sure and the 2nd game is Saturday. So really, this makes sense as Casey said he wants 2 or 3 normal practices out of Cade before he puts him out there. I'm thinking this is now more about him not having enough practice than the injury itself, and letting him get a couple extra days of practice will be good to make sure his ankle is fine.
So I'm betting he plays Saturday at Chicago. And if not then it will definitely be by the 3rd game.

So much for the "very mild" rolled ankle on October 1st...its 20 days later for crying out loud (I'm just angry bc I have tickets...)

Also, I am surprised to hear KO will start over Beef Stew. But, That also may make sense simply from an opponent consideration.
I don't know the situation with the Bulls interior capabilities and how strong of a rebounding team they are but maybe Casey feels that KO's scoring and ball movement and ability to stretch the floor may be more important (especially with Cade out) to match them in scoring by having more shooters out there in these first 2 games. Do the Bulls have a rebounding dominant center of is their guy the same type KO is?

Vucevic is a good rebounder and can hit an occasional 3. All-star caliber C.

Was just watching Everything King channel on YT and me mentioned something about hear that the Pistons are toying with moving Bet over to the sg position, having Grant play SF and KO at PF with Stew at center. Hmm, that would be an interesting lineup.

Yeah, I was saying “wait and see” until this moment.
It’s disappointing- no putting a bow on it.
Still don’t know how big a deal it is, but whether we were mislead at the beginning or the realities of the situation changed (we’ll never know), the situation is clearly not as it was presented to us at the start of the month.
Definitely a lot less excited about the season opener at the very least. Not ready to go doomer here yet though.

That would be a huge starting lineup.

No **** that, they've handled the whole thing horribly. Even after practice Casey had the chance to be honest and he wasn't.....they only released it when they did because they had to, the official injury report was due.

Meh it doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things but I'm bummed to not get to see him play.

****, that really sucks but at least we have some clarity finally.
Not gonna lie though, it's a bit concerning.

What did people think was unclear? The team stated that he rolled his ankle, it wasn't serious but that they wouldn't rush him which is the right thing to do, and there's plenty of recent video since he rolled his ankle clearly showing that he doesn't have anything seriously wrong. Obviously it was a day to day thing--which happens in sports ALL THE TIME--without the team saying "he's day to day." Have none of you internet doctors ever rolled your ankle? I have and it absolutely was weeks before it was 100%, no pain at all back to normal. Was I functioning the whole time? Yes. Did I want to go out and play a full game of basketball while it was still sore? Hell no.
Some of you are just irritated so you built a windmill to go tilt at even though all the evidence is pointing to what the team has said all along--it's nothing serious but they're being cautious. The fact that it's the first game of the season has no bearing on whether or not Cade should play from a medical standpoint, which should be the team's utmost priority. If this happened in the middle of the season with a 13-20 record none of you would be saying diddly about how the team was handling it, hiding something, blah blah blah.
