WHHAAATT?. Unreal. I thought he played all the way to the end last night.

Yeah, what else do you do, we have to use Garza. He can shoot 3 pointers maybe better than KO, he can score down low too, and probably rebound better as well. Of course he'll be bad on defense, but maybe he can offset his downside with his shooting and rebounding. Please don't tell me Lyles will just be given 20 more minutes a night. We have to use Garza, there really isn't any other choice, is there? And maybe Casey will get some smarts going and just call Saban up with him and sit Joseph.

I mean, if you had to pick a guy to get hurt (and couldn’t choose CoJo), I’d probably pick KO. Garza gets run, maybe Pickett gets run, we lose a little more, Stewart gets a longer leash.

Eh. We’ll live.

The real solution here will be a combination of Garza, more Trey Lyles, and maybe even a little bit of Josh Jackson at PF with Jerami Grant at C.

Tomorrow night in Cleveland will be even more interesting with this news. Oh my I'm going to be angry if Garza isn't called up. This would be a great chance to put the rookie in a tough spot because of injury, see how the kid handles it. Oh lord, a terrible thought just came to me, Mobley running past Garza, that would be an bad matchup for our room.

What would you guys do about maybe playing more zone while Garza is in? Basically, is there a preferred defense that you think could help protect Garza from needing to do a lot of movement?

It seems like a 2-3 zone could help him stay in one area and maybe we could protect him a bit? Thoughts?

Yeah theres no way Garza doesnt get called up the Cavs are too damn big we'd really get killed on the boards and inside the paint.

Garza should come up. I could see us playing Bey at PF more and Diallo and Josh Jackson playing more while Lyes plays back up center.

First option should be Garza. He's going to get abused some nights but that's life. Of course to balance it out you'd have to run some plays for him in the post where he has an offensive advantage but Casey will never do that. "Love the low post game, kid. Now just set a pick, roll to the 3 point line, then crash the boards when someone else's 3 point shot goes up." That's pretty much Garza's life on the floor under Casey.

Garza is not an NBA player. Not by a long shot here. Detroit will make a trade or a cut to sign a FA big still out there. Is Jah anywhere even?

What big could Detroit get for Josh Jackson? Hami and Josh are redundant and Hami can't be traded for another month yet.

I don’t think they’ll make a trade, but Bagley would be interesting. He’d get steady minutes, would be worth a shot.

Why would they do that and how did you decide that Luka wasn't an NBA player? Because he didn't keep up with the best center in the league for a few minutes?

The Pistons don't need to trade for a proven player, they need to give their young guy some run and it's not like Garza is a kid. Perfect time to get him some significant minutes.

Hard part for Bagley trade is matching salaries. Jackson makes 5M, Bagley 11M. Detroit can't trade Hami until Jan 15th and Frank, Joseph, Lyles until Dec 15th.

Not a huge Bagley fan, but if the kings are going to give him away, he's certainly worth a look.

Ugh that’s right, we won’t have any salaries to match.

I don't see Bagley happening for various reasons, but it's so early in the season that I do think the Pistons will make a move beyond Garza call-up. Yes, it'll be "interesting" to see him get some extended run, but man, it might also be ugly.

Aron Baynes. Struggled last season, but I think he's a good locker room guy.

I don't see a reason to bring in a vet center during this developmental year. With the stable of young players to rotate in, a next man up approach seems best for learning about and developing them. Lee, Livers and eventually Smith may get some run as injuries occur. It's the only way Garza gets many minutes this season.

With these couple dozen games we'll see if Garza is beginning to adapt into a decent backup. Hopefully he shows some improvement, not stagnation or regression. Playing against middling teams' backup centers, he'll get a fair chance to show if he belongs. He's smart and hungry with a chance to play, so I wouldn't be shocked if he's a net positive. We may instead find out he can't hold his own enough on the defensive end to stay on the court. Either way, better to find out early.

As much as I don't want injuries to happen, getting youngsters on the court this season gives one a better measure of their progress. Unless one thinks this is a potential playoff season, letting developing players take their lumps and learn while filling in makes sense. When they return to the Cruise they'll know what to work on and we'll all have an idea of how they fit with Cade and the rotation.
