Taking a Flyer - center addition

Post#1 » by guldakot » Tue Nov 23, 2021 6:07 pm

With KO out for now we really only have 1 'legit' center on our roster whos getting any playtime in Stewart and one backup in Garza. Should we cut McGruder and take a look at a couple of center prospects who haven't managed to stick in the NBA?

--available that fit the criteria--
Harry Giles (my top pick)
Marquese Chriss
Isiah Hartenstein

or possibly Vets?
Cousins
Baynes
Biyombo

Should we try and sign one of these guys and see if they can fit (younger players) or maybe get some vet depth to help out? We need a rebounding rim runner badly, which is why I really want to take a flyer on Giles.

Honestly, seeing as how time is not of the essence, just let it play out until mid-december until a proper trade can take place.

This is a HUGE opportunity for Garza, and could easily establish himself as a rotation piece if he plays well enough for the next two games.

This is the huge opportunity for Garza to cement that he's not an NBA caliber player and the Pistons can hopefully stop pretending a 52nd overall draft pick offers anything more than making Boban look quick and agile.

I'll never understand why the Pistons felt the need to give him a full contract rather than have him on a two way.

I feel you. I’ve been pulling for Garza because he clearly puts in a ton of effort but his athletic deficits are quite glaring.

I'd take Isiah Hartenstein. He's a legit springy 7footer something we really lack.

Yep. As I've said before and will continue to say, there is no NEED for the Pistons to do anything. Wins don't mean squat.

Phrase these types of ideas as "I want to see the Pistons play better basketball because I don't like watching the growing pains." At least it's honest.

With the loss of Stewart for a couple games, I would sign Cheick Diallo from the Cruise to a 10 day contract. He's been a backup in the league with some time at center. That's all I would do to ride it out.

Biyombo is not on a roster? That's surprising.

We absolutely do not need to make any panic moves to sign a center, certainly a vet center.

But yes, we should have never signed mcgruder in the first place. so we should ditch him ASAP and load up on more young prospects. We should be taking fliers on young guys over and over. Most of them won't work out, but we need to be building our long term talent base in any way we can.

Garza not going to last in this league. Maybe a 13th player on the bench. I wanted to give him the benefit without a doubt but he's too slow. Seems like he's working extra hard just to run up and down the court.

Someone like Javale McGee would be the perfect player for this team.

Hartelson is on a roster somewhere. 10-day contracts are not allowed until January I believe. And even then only if you have an open roster spot.

Pistons needed Jamorko real bad on a 2-way it seems.

Yep. That's all that's required in order to plug a warm body into a spot they should be plugged into.

That's got to be a record. 78 minutes played, and declarative statements about a rookie have been made.

Holy ****.0

At least Hayes got 20 odd games.

Hey, who needs scouts when guys on the internet can predict the future after 78 minutes?

Garza versus Embid were like the six most entertaining minutes of that game. I like when Garza plays because it's all so painful to watch - like rubbernecking for an accident.

Garza has earned and deserves some burn.

Garza certainly played hard last night. Can't fault the effort. Of course, he ended up in foul trouble pretty quickly and looked like he might pass out from exhaustion at one point. Hard to see him being able to pull that off consistently in a larger roll, but who knows.
