PER is a stat often used to give you a general guide to how a player performs. It looks at per minute production. It's not a perfect that by any means but its good and giving you a general idea of where a player is at production wise. 15.0 is average.
PER - Player Efficiency Rating
Kelly Olynyk 18.9
Jerami Grant 17.3
Diallo 15.3
-------
Trey Lyles 14.4
Stewart 14.2
Garza 12.9
Cade 11.4
CoJo 11.4
Josh Jackson 10.9
Saben Lee 10.9
Bey 10.5
Frank Jackson 9.4
Rodney McGruder 8.8
Killian Hayes 8.7
Let's also look at another stat that many fans go to which is win shares. Specifically for this we're going to look at win shares per 48 minutes. NBA average is about 0.100 and the Pistons have two players that are slightly above average here.
Win Shares per 48 minutes
Kelly Olynyk .114
Diallo .101
Beef Stew .99
Garza .99
Jerami Grant .87
Trey Lyles .69
CoJo .06
Josh Jackson .03
McGruder .25
Hayes .16
Frank Jackson .14
Saben Lee .10
Bey .08
Cunningham -0.036
Next we're going to look at BOX Plus/Minus which is a box score estimate of the points per 100 possession that a player contributes above the league average, translated to an average team. Any positive numbers mean your stats are showing you are having a positive winning impact on the team and anything negative means your stats show you are hurting your team compared to the average NBA player.
Box Plus/Minus
Kelly Olynk 2.5
Jerami Grant 0.8
Diallo -0.9
Saben Lee -1.3
Cade -2.6
Lyles -2.8
CoJo -3.1
Beef Stew -3.2
Garza -3.3
Josh Jackson -3.6
Bey -3.7
Hayes. -4.2
Frank Jackson -4.4
McGruder -4.6
So only KO and Grant, to this point, have played above league average basketball when it comes to impact on the box score. If anything, these stats point to KO really being missed.... and Diallo deserving some more playing time. Frank Jackson, if he isn't hitting 3s (29.8% this year) isn't a good basketball player while Diallo still does some good even if he is only shooting 26.7% from deep this year. Diallo does enough other stuff that he's been close to an average NBA player this season while Frank Jackson is well below.
