Re: Top five pick and cap space
Guess I shoulda said “instead of ONE OF Mitch or Bagley”. That’s what I meant.
I freely admit Bagley irks me enough that I don’t want him around. If we keep him on his QO of 7.5 o or sign him to a 3/25, I’ll be irritated but understand. If we give him 3/36 or some nonsense like that, I’m gonna be pissed. Dude is a bonehead.

Re: Top five pick and cap space
The more I think about it the more Id rather have just one rim running non shooting type big and have a more versatile shooting big off the bench like olynyk (or play small?). Guys like Robinson and Stewart are basically the same type of player. Bagley too really besides he isn't good on D but is better scoring around the rim.tmorgan wrote:Guess I shoulda said “instead of ONE OF Mitch or Bagley”. That’s what I meant.

I'm thinking versatility is more important than 48min of bruisers.

Hello Pistons fans from an outsider, why is there no chatter about Pistons targeting Ayton in FA but instead Mitchell Robinson?

Mitchell Robinson is an unrestricted free agent, Ayton is a restricted free agent, Phoenix doesn't want to give him 5 years max, but we can only offer him 4 years, which Phoenix would likely match, so one is attainable, the other is not.

There's still a little hope of Ayton because Pistons will certainly offer the max and Sarver is Sarver. Ayton has to be priority number one even if it is futile, especially if Pistons don't end up in the top three.

I think he'd struggle to be happy being a back up here or with making less than Bagley -- things that'd be required to bring him back.
Assuming we get a 4 or a 5 in the draft, though, I think we'll already be glutted when it comes to big men (but I'm team bring Bagley back).

Re: Top five pick and cap space
On the plus side Dre is a legit C, unlike Bagley. He's a better rebounder too. He's also put on a lil weight and isn't nearly as explosive as he used to be. I actually think he's an OK backup C but he has the same problem he's always had; he's not really passionate about the game. It's a 9-5 job for him; he's gonna show up, get paid and go home. And nothing wrong with that I guess, but I want guys who are hungry. Who will put the work in.

Well if he wants to come back it'd be easy on the sales and marketing folks to recycle old materials for promos again. Might also need to dumpster dive to find old posters and cutouts they mightve thrown away a couple years ago

Andre doesn't get it.
I'll take a hard pass on getting him back.

I wouldn't take Drummond back for the league min, even though he'd help the team with rebounding. That's the old losing culture Pistons I don't want him around the young guys.

To be fair he’s on the Piston’s 2010 all decade team which would consist of:
Reggie Jackson
Brandon Jennings
Tobias Harris
Blake Griffin
Andre Drummond
How depressing. However, he is playing a nice role this season on two different teams…

Re: Top five pick and cap space
Well, let me try again
M.Robinson / I.Stewart / L.Garza
P.Banchero / M.Bagley /
S.Bey / K.Johnson / I.Livers
J.Brunson / M.Beasley / H.Diallo
C.Cunningham / K.Hayes / S.Lee
We draft Paolo Banchero with a top 5 pick
We trade Grant to the Spurs for Keldon Johnson + Doug McDermott and Josh Richardson, they'd go for a 3rd and 4th teams for raw cap space for us.
We trade Kelly Olynyk and Corey Joseph to Minesotta for Malik Beasley
We let Frank Jackson go and we bring Luka Garza back.
We bring Bagley back in a 3 years 36-40 mil deal
We sign Mitchell Robinson for 3 years 45-50 mil
We sign Jalen Brunson for 4 yers 80-90 mil
Diallo and Livers as 3rd stringers are a waste, but I have no idea what to do with them.

That again to me looks like a push all in this offseason, spend all the money on whatever upgrades you think you can get, and wind up with a team that outside of Cade, has no stars but a bunch of solid role players. And who knows--maybe it works because the overall talent level is pretty good. But I don't think that's a team that's overtaking the "super teams" currently controlling the top spots.
And if it doesn't work, that team is on the treadmill for the next 4 years. And we all know what 4 years of treadmill results in--another 4 years of treadmill after it.

Re: Top five pick and cap space
If we sign Robinson one of Bagley or Stewart has to go. I'd much rather keep olynyk in that scenario over one of those guys.vege wrote:Well, let me try again
