Pistons 22-23 Alternate Teal Jersey leaked?

Post#1 » by bstein14 » Thu Feb 24, 2022 2:39 am

A supposed leak of alternate jersey designs for next season. Who knows if its true or not but would certainly be interesting to see some teal.... just for a few games... next season. Image

Rather just switch to this, if anything. Was never a fan of the teal/black era unis.

yuck. i don’t understand how one could think the teal jerseys are ugly just to prefer something like this. we literally have damn near the ugliest color scheme/jersey patterns in the game save for our red alternates this year, which are actually pretty sweet. we desperately need an overhaul. i’d absolutely welcome the teal as an alternate while also keeping the reds for away games.

It’s legit. Has been out there since 2019 when it was first reported by Rod Beard in the Detroit News.

Personally I could go without ever seeing the teal jerseys again but hopefully this satisfies the Gen Z crowd that has been clamoring for it so loudly for so long. I’d like to see the Pistons drop the ugly gray jerseys while they’re at it and bring back the classic court design too instead of whatever the ones they’ve been using this year are.

Yeah.

Do a white home, blue away, and maybe bring back the red alternates.

I mean the Pistons have used the “ugliest color scheme” their entire 60+ year history outside of 5 seasons, and the same general jersey design since the early 1980s, save those 5 unfortunate seasons. Not sure why a change is desperately needed now - to me it’s best not to mess with a classic; you wouldn’t expect the Bulls or Celtics to change their logo or jerseys, the Pistons with their championships associated with the current look fall in the same boat IMO. But to each their own.

I've always liked the red, white & blue color scheme although I prefer when they are brighter. There are a few times they've been almost dull or a darker shade. And I'm cool with the red alternates. I could live without the grays and really don't wanna see the teal ever again.

Also not a fan of the horse logo. Call me old school, but I prefer our basic round logo. If we were going to do something different I'd rather see a city outline or silhouette as opposed to another bad attempt at a tangential car part.

I hate those jerseys. It represents a "new era" which saw a superstar leave Detroit for warmer pastures.

Nevermind the fact that they are objectively hideous.

Teal? C'mon.

I like the red alternate / remix jerseys. No need for the full teal jersey.
White blue and red is plenty.

Sure, let's memorialize a mediocre era by bringing teal back... sheesh.

Unpopular opinion: I like the teal jerseys (the burgandy alternates were hideous) and potentially using them next season is easily way better than any throwback/city edition jersey we've had since the league started that whole thing. We always have the most boring and unmemorable jersey of every team it seems.

Now the teal era... not so great of course. Even still, I 'd rather watch the duo of Jerry Stackhouse and walking triple double threat Grant Hill underwhelm in the W-L column than anything we've put on the court the last 10 years. At least I was being entertained while we were losing.

I'd like the alternate jersey to be a style Grant Hill wore -

How often would we use these jerseys?

If it’s just an alternate from time to time I don’t mind mixing it up a little, I get bored of the same color scheme every game, even though I wasn’t wild about the teal in general.

And people deride the teal era as the lull between two eras in which the team was a contender/title winner, but the cold hard reality is that the team era (from a basketball perspective) was a LOT better than the last 13 years have been.

Yep, that's all that is needed. Classic home and road with the mid 2000s red alternate jersey. I'll never understand why the Pistons have refused to bring it back for nearly 15 years. This season's "City" jersey is the first decent alternate they've had in all that time, but I still prefer this one:

It's classified as a "Classic Edition" jersey, which means it will be the 5th jersey in the rotation next season, along with the regular home and road, Chrome (presumably) and whatever City edition they have (usually the dreaded "Motor City.") Nike schedules out what uniforms are used in what games, but I'd estimate it will be used 10-15 times.

I do agree about the perception of the teal era getting overly derided. The actual basketball performance was a golden age compared to the 2010s. The issue I have with it is the color scheme, which was ridiculous for a northern cold weather city with a (unfair or not) rugged national perception, along with the cartoonish logo.

This is fair. As a Piston fan who has never lived on Michigan (or the midwest full stop) I don’t have that perspective.

The alternate jerseys are really about making money. If they sell a bunch of teal Cade jerseys they will likely keep them as an alternate. If they don't they may look to something else. There is certainly some teal nostalgia for me as its when I really got into being a Pistons fans in those Hunter, Stackhouse, Hill, Ratliff, Terry Mills days. That said, I prefer the classic red/white/blue but I don't think it will be a big deal to see these for 5 or 6 games next season.

I could be wrong, but I would suspect that most people who like teal fall into that same camp of people who started following the team during that era. If that is how you were introduced (or became invested), it makes sense you would have an emotional attachment. In the grand scheme of things that was only a 4 or 5 year window. The rest of us know better. :D
