Bummer. Wishing him a speedy recovery.
“
I am disappointed to miss the remainder of the season, but my health is the number one priority right now and I have a great team of doctors guiding my short-term and long-term health,” Blaha said. “I’m grateful that they caught my issue early and they expect a full recovery. I look forward to getting back to full speed with rest and rehabilitation during the offseason and returning next year for my 47th season calling games for the Pistons.”

Pistons fans have been lucky to have Blaha's voice for all these years. Hopefully he's not done yet.

FWIW, the anesthesiologist is having a hard time with him. Just when they think he's been put under, he rises up and exclaims "Count that baby, and a foul!". And, he keeps asking the nurses for "Special K", which they all presume is some kind of drug...

I wonder who the heir apparent is at such time Blaha is ready for retirement.

I hope it's not Johnny Kane.

Was Kane the guy last game? Sounded like someone they yanked off his high school gig.

You and me both. His style bugs me. I'd love it if it were Mark Champion but he's already doing the radio broadcast. Matt Shepard wouldn't bother me.

I thought this description in a localsportsjournal.com article summed it up
Today, Kane is an on-air personality for Bally Sports Detroit. He is commonly seen wandering among the paying customers at Comerica Park during the Detroit Tigers season and Little Caesars Arena during the Detroit Pistons season.
Johnny does a fine job in that role.
Wishing for a speedy recovery, Mr. Blaha.

Yeah, you have to figure retirement may very well be around the corner. Hopefully he'll prioritize his health and not push it.
It's always weird hearing someone else.

For reference- George has been doing this since 1976- that's 46 years.
Chick Hearn of Lakers fame did the job for 36 years.

Johnny improved a lot since last season, when he was an auto-mute.
He still is a little too excited overall my tastes, but maybe thats what a lot of fans want. I have no idea what their market research says.
When the Pistons are winning he is pretty fun or big runs, but the minute to minute commentating is just a little too 'up' for my liking and I prefer Grandpa Blaha, who I've heard my whole life.
'Count that baby and a foul'

I wish someone had written a long article about Blaha and all the Blaha-isms.

Agreed, he's a legend and is THE voice of the Pistons. I've been kind of preparing for it the last few years as he ages but am not ready quite yet to hear a different voice.
In any event, his personal health is the most important thing so...hoping for him to have a speedy recovery.
