Grant and our lottery pick?

Post#1 » by aad » Tue May 3, 2022 9:53 pm

So if we stay in the top 5 and draft a big man one of
Chet
Banchero
Smith
Murray

Is it a sure thing that Grant is gone

I think it's likely that he's gone either way, but the timing is certainly in question and dependent on a few other factors.

If Bey shows significant progress from last season then Grant probably needs to go. If Bey continues to struggle with consistency then you can just move Grant to the 3-spot. You can even re-sign Bagley and still be OK on minutes. If we have a good offer before the draft then you probably pull the trigger, but if not then it's perfectly OK to wait until the deadline. We can still be patient.

Not necessarily. It could mean Kelly and/or Bagley are gone. It really depends on who exactly we draft among those.

Maybe not a sure thing that he is gone, but if we twist this the other way, if we don't draft one of those 4 big men, I'd bet Grant is staying.

My dream scenario is still we got one of those bigs, trade Grant for a top 10 pick and get Sharpe or Ivey.

I'm not at all convinced that Grant is a foundational piece for this team. I'm also not convinced based on performances with him off the floor that we would take much of a step back either.

if we have the opportunity to start a rookie in his place with better future prospects in terms of our franchise then we absolutely do it. If we can ship him for a prospect or pick that is more aligned with the time window of our other players then I think we should do that too.

But the number of wins we get because we have or do not have Jerami Grant on our team shouldn't be a concern for us in the slightest.

It will be a sure thing that Grant is gone when he's gone.

Popping back in on this thread. Regardless if Bey and Bagley are ready, they need playing time and be depended on for some shots. Grant takes away from their development. He should be traded regardless of our pick.

grant needs to be moved he doesnt make plays for others, not a good iso player and has been bad at rebounding.
