Athletic post lotto mock
Just posted it I thought it was worth its on post since its lotto day. I'll share the blurps on the guys who are availble when we pick.
1.Smith
2.Chet
3.Paolo
4.Ivey
"Picking Ivey this high is all about his upside. He’s the best athlete in the class and was extremely productive this year at Purdue. He has a lightning-quick first step, can power through defenders on the move and finish with explosive leaps at the hoop. The way he uses his speed to create driving lanes and transition opportunities resembles No. 1 pick John Wall early in his NBA career.
Ivey’s main issues are his non-existent midrange game and sub-elite passing skills, both essential skills for an NBA lead guard. If he can’t improve those areas, it will be hard for him to take on a primary offensive role consistently. But if those parts of Ivey’s game come together, he could end up as the best player in this class.
The Kings have De’Aaron Fox in place already, but they did just fill the big position with Domantas Sabonis at the trade deadline. I would imagine this is purely a best-player-available situation, depending on which of the top four falls."
5.A Shaedon Sharpe sighting for the first time this draft cycle!
If the NBA Draft has a mystery man within the top 10, it’s Sharpe. The 6-foot-6 wing from Canada committed to Kentucky early this year, only made it to campus for the second semester, then sat out the season and subsequently declared for the draft. He is eligible to be picked because he graduated high school before the 2021-22 NBA season began and turned 19 before the end of 2022.
Sharpe represents a high-upside gamble due to his potential as a wing shot creator. He looks every bit like a future NBA star wing, combining elite length with terrific hops. The problem for scouts is that he hasn’t played much at high levels of competition, so nobody’s really sure how he’ll react to the speed of the game. He has all of the tools to be great, but it’ll take a team willing to dive in and take a risk. Troy Weaver tends to really like players with a great intersection of athleticism and length, as well as guys who have high upsides. Sharpe also fits really well on the wing as a shot maker next to Cade Cunningham.
6.MurrayMurray is the safest pick of this year’s lottery as a skilled 6-foot-8 forward who averaged 23 points and eight rebounds per game this season for Iowa while shooting 40 percent from 3. He’s a terrific finisher inside and has even flashed the ability to generate 3-point shots off pick-and-pops and off-ball movement. His game resembles Philadelphia’s Tobias Harris, who has been a starting-quality, near All-Star player for several seasons. Murray’s defensive foot speed, much like Harris’, is suspect, but he makes up for it with his strength. If he can get a body on his man, teams should feel comfortable that he can stay in front of them. Ultimately, Murray slots in nicely on a large variety of teams.
7.Sochan he really flew up alot of hype in draft thread on him!
8.Mathurin
9 Griffin
10-Davis
11 Duren

Re: Athletic post lotto mock
I just can’t believe GMs will take guys like AJ Griffin and Johnny Davis in the lottery. I cannot see the path for greatness (or even goodness) in either.
Tari Eason and Dyson Daniels are the steals in this draft, but I think they both go lottery after things shake out. Getting one of them for Grant would be fantastic.

I'd bet one of if not both of those guys falls as workouts happen. I feel like Griffin is being carried by his recruiting rank and sky high 3pt%. I guess Griffin you could make a case hes not such a bad athlete its injuries but the injury thing can go both ways.Davis has nice college numbers but his game is meh(he works to hard for shots that should be easy for a elite scorer).

sounds like Sharpe is getting buzz at the combine, I doubt the Kings take him though.
I think we'll be picking between Sharpe and Ivey, especially if we dont trade Grant
4. Kings: Shaedon Sharpe, SG, Kentucky
Height: 6' 5" | Weight: 200 | Age: 19 | Freshman
The Kings were among the biggest winners on Tuesday, moving up from No. 7 to No. 4, which puts them in a fascinating position. Presuming the top three bigs are off the board, they may have a tricky choice to make here: Jaden Ivey’s skill set creates some obvious duplication with De’Aaron Fox. And while Sharpe is much less proven, he looks like a natural complement to what’s already on the roster. Having said that, it’s also entirely possible Sacramento could explore trade-back opportunities, considering the franchise’s emphasis on fighting for the playoffs, and the potential value of this selection, considering it may be an opportunity for another team to move into the perceived top tier of prospects and select one. This is an interesting pivot point in the lottery to monitor.
Based on the buzz at the combine, where Sharpe put on a lengthy pro day workout on Monday that included some dazzling footwork and shot-making, it feels very much like he’s going to hear his name called in the top five on draft night. I’d also scrap the notion that the first four picks are locked in as there's a very real chance Sharpe crashes the party. He’s an amazing athlete who can create space for himself and is also a gifted shooter—rarely do those things all come in one teenage prospect. There are definitely areas of his game he needs to iron out, and he’s behind his peers in terms of high-level game experience, but Sharpe’s upside is significant to the point where someone is going to take a swing. The Kings will have to think hard about it.

Nice thanks for sharing this I wouldnt of caught it.
If were sitting at pick 5 and Weaver is choosing between Sharpe and Ivey I'm feeling pretty good about the spot. That would mean we landed the best guard prospect in the draft two season in a row. Hard to complain about that.

Unless something crazy happen and one of the projected top 3 falls to 5, I think we're almost certainly picking one of Ivey, Sharpe, or Murray. Murray could be the most likely to win ROY, depending on where he lands.

I think we would peak as something less than a contender. Not that the other approach is a guarantee to contend.

Re: Athletic post lotto mock
I think Murray is only the pick at 5 if they trade Grant. Taking Murray when you have Bey and Grant (if not traded, will be on a 4 year contract) makes no sense
I expect the decision to come down to Ivey/Sharpe with outside chance to Mathurin/Duren

I’m all in on Sharpe now and hope we give him a promise quickly and he doesn’t workout. I don’t see us making a trade of #5, Grant, Cap space short of a upper level all star like Donovan Mitchell.
My ideal is S&T Ayton for Grant. Draft Sharpe.
Cade
Sharpe
Bey
Bagley
Ayton
Role players:
1. Stewart
2. Hayes
3. Diallo
4. Livers

^^^^Nice lineup.
So if we go with Sharpe or Ivey, it makes keeping Bagley an easy choice imo.

A promise? Do we have the #1 pick to promise?
He's working out.

Kings at 4 is the wildcard as they usually are.
If they go Murray? Cool! We choose between Sharpe and Ivey, retain Bags, hopefully save our cap space for later.

People kinda sleeping on what Ivey and Murray could be because Sharpe has entered the chat. Murray and Ivey still got tools we could really need

Re: Athletic post lotto mock
I said it before the draft, and ill say it again, I really didn't care where the Pistons landed, and anything 5 and up I'm happy.
I'm happy. This draft is a weird one, in that there isn't a clear top guy, and you have some players who have been mocked into the top 3(Sharpe), or even top spot prior to the lottery.(Ivey)
Now that it seems that the Pistons are going to be taking a guard, or Murray(I mean its realistically between 3, maybe 4 guys Ivey, Sharpe, Murray, or Mathurin) It's going to be easier to know what Weaver might do in the offseason.
Adding one of the guards will give the Pistons a killer three guard lineup, one that will be around for years, which is what I believe will happen. I just can't see the Kings selecting Ivey, and to be honest, I see them taking Murray, who would fit very nicely next to Sabonis. Of course, this is the kings, so anything possible.
That leaves Ivey or Sharpe. Not a fan of Iveys potential fit next to Cade, but in a vacuum, I take him without thinking about it as he is a fierce competitor, and bucket getter. The guy I really like is Mathurin at #5, but I'm in the minority here, so I understand the Sharpe excitement.
In the end, im fine with any of those 4.

Big fan of Mathurin and if possible I'd be hoping to deal Grant to Portland for their pick and select him there.zeebneeb wrote:I said it before the draft, and ill say it again, I really didn't care where the Pistons landed, and anything 5 and up I'm happy.

Re: Athletic post lotto mock
I have the same 4. If we get a guard I think that either signals bags is back and or mo/Robinson/Ayton coming to sure up the bigs. If we go Murray it becomes less clears who we go after in free agency maybe Brunson. So
Cade
Ivey
Bey
Grant
Ayton/Mo/Robinson
Vs
Cade
Brunson
Bey
Grant/Murray
Stewart
Pretty obvious when I put it like that

Griffin I agree with, he's a limited player with a limited ceiling IMO but Davis is a shotmaker, a guy who can make tough shots from all over the court so guys like that always have a high ceiling if it can translate to the next level. The issue with Davis is that those shots were tough to get off in college so that's problematic against much more athletic and savvy defenders at the NBA level and his long range shooting is inconsistent, but I can see a path for stardom for him as faint as it may be.
Agreed on Eason. Athletic, lengthy winger with high scoring potential. Those are the most coveted guys at the NBA level but as is the case with most of the prospects in this draft, his game is raw.
