5th overall pick betting odds just hit

https://sportsbook.draftkings.com/leagues/basketball/88670846?category=nba-draft&subcategory=5th-overall-pick

Sharpe +100
Murray +145
Ivey +350
Daniels +500
Griffin +2500
Duren +3k
Mathurin +3k

Ivey is a huge favorite to go at pick 3 at -330 with Sharpe next at +450. So thats why Ivey isnt higher he would likely be a decent favorite if he was im guessing. I think the best gambling bets will be Mathurin by far following by a much further back Daniels.

I agree with the sportsbooks that we are very very likely going to be taking one of Sharpe Murray or Ivey if he makes it to us. I'm personally hoping for Sharpe.

Sharpes going to come down to these workouts and interviews. I think if he nails them Weaver will pull the trigger. Weaver has made some higher risk upside high draft picks before with Westbrook and Killian I dont think hes going to shy away. Sharpes ceiling is sky high I just imagine Weaver is thinking just like us.

For me, by FAR the most surprising thing here is Daniels +500. Everything else is varying degrees of expectation/slight surprise. But Daniels at +500 feels like they're way off or know something.

Do you think its high or low? I thought it was decent value but nothing crazy. +3k on Mathurin is real juicy I dont think hes all that likely but its possible

I would short that bet if possible. I personally think he would be a good pick (if his 3 ball is trending in the right way), but I think JEIII just said the Pistons board is likely Murray #1 and Mathurin/Sharpe after that. I haven't seen anyone with any degree of connections say Daniels is realistic.

And agreed on Mathurin +3k. It honestly feels like the intern typed it in wrong and Daniels/Mathurin are flipped.

I could see Daniels up there only if he really has changed his shot mechanics. 54% or whatever at the line is scary though it would take alot. I thought it was ok value but Mathurin looked best to me.

Like you said before though Weaver also probably wouldn't just publicly show his draft hands. So if he does want a guy like Sharpe he might keep it more secret.

Guaranteed they know more than we do. But that's just setting the opening odds; the money being bet will take over after that. Don't forget the ROY odds; being the heavy betting favorite doesn't make it a sure thing. It just means that's where most of the money is being bet.

Shocker. I wouldn't be surprised a bit if Ivey overtakes Sharpe.

I don't think Ivey will be on the board at 5. OKC seems pretty infatuated with him as they could use that type of scoring guard next to SGA and Giddey. Maybe they trade down for him too?

If OKC wants Ivey, I could see a trade where SAC improves their team for a win now while also getting a good piece for the future. With the caveat that maybe their "other stuff" I have below doesn't exist in a way that OKC wants. But I wouldn't hate this if Weaver loves Chet/Jabari.

DET IN: #2 pick
DET OUT: #5 and Grant

SAC IN: #5 pick and Grant
SAC OUT: #4 and some more stuff going to OKC

OKC IN: #4 pick and some more stuff from SAC
OKC OUT: #2

Here in Australia, one of if not our biggest betting agencies Sportbet has:

Sharpe $1.96
Murray $3.80
Ivey $4.20
Daniels $16
Griffin $31

Not sure if the odds have changed in the US to show something similar but I’ve just chucked $100 down on Murray. At least while being pissed that we passed on Sharpe I’ll be close to $300 richer lol.

Which could explain why his odds are longer; fewer people betting he'll actually make it to 5. I doubt it's because they think he'll go 6 or later.

I’m actually think I might throw $900 on top of the existing to make it an even $1k haha. Unfortunately I don’t think Sharpe is going to be able to do enough in a 1 on 0 workout to sway Weavers mind.

And those thinking that Wevaer is holding his cards close, I don’t think he really needs to since it seems pretty obvious Smith/Chet/Paolo/Ivey will go 1-4 in whatever order making this one of the years that it’s really not necessary to play smoke and mirrors at the 5 spot. If Ivey falls Weaver grabs him, if not he takes Murray…..
