Olynyk Trade Ideas

Post#1 » by coordinator0 » Wed Jun 29, 2022 2:45 am

After Detroit's moves over the last week and the likely re-signing of Bagley in a few days it seems like Kelly O is on his way out. What's your best guess on something happening?

For me I can't shake this feeling that he and Hayes could be packaged and sent to somewhere like Atlanta for Gallinari's expiring plus some minor assets. Killian doesn't seem like a tremendous fit as the third guard with Ivey and Cunningham but the team's view on him is hard to gauge. I don't have especially strong feelings either way in regards to his place on the team.

I guess they could go after Collins too but I'm not sure they want to add his future salary, and that doesn't really do much to clear the glut in the frontcourt. Well, neither does adding Gallo but at least he brings real shooting and is quite a different presence than the other "true" bigs.

Back to Olynyk, he shouldn't be a huge negative asset with his $3 million guarantee for the 2023 summer. But still not one that a team would rather add and give up a true expiring for. I don't know, this is the best I've got off the top of my head.

I think Killian stays.

KO could be moved, but his shooting is welcome.

I doubt we trade Olynyk.

1) He can shoot
2) we seem to be making an obvious effort to be players in the 2023 offseason, and his deal expires after this season.

I'd actually rather keep Olynyk he's a decently skilled big just was injured last season.

Olynyk's shooting is vastly overrated. He's only been a real plus in that department for the abbreviated 2019-20 season and outside the arc in the 2015-16 season. I'm not losing him off the roster really hinders the team in that regard.

I have no problem entertaining a trade of KO but what could we get? I don’t see us getting anything of value. I’d simply just keep him.

What? He's a career 36% guy on good volume who can slide to C in some match ups his 3pt shooting is valuable. Hopefully the guy can stay healthy this season

Which, to me, is entirely unremarkable and not really a huge plus in today's NBA. With this team I'd rather have Stewart taking those shots in that spot this year and potentially developing instead of Olynyk being average at best and likely not a part of the team past this season regardless.

If it isn't clear I am not a big fan of Olynyk. :D Tried to talk myself into him last season and couldn't quite make myself believe it.

Noel has missed many games due to injury in his career, he’s got Drummond range, with Ben Wallace’s offensive skills. I don’t see the reason to trade Kelly or an offer worth taking.

Noel is probably only here until the trade deadline

I don't see Stewart as 3pt shooter but maybe he can develop in that. I can understand why some of us may not like him but I still think he can be a solid vet role player for us.

I started a thread in the trades and transactions boards a few months ago, asking for what deals could be available for KO.

The one that interested me the most at the time was KO for Malik Beasley, but there were like half dozen good suggestions there iirc.

What do u think of packaging him with Burks, Noel, S Lee for G Heyward and a top 13 protected pick

It might end up being to Dallas in a 3 way Brunson sign-and-trade with New York.

Dallas Gets: CoJo + Olynyk + Miami 2nd (heavily protected) + small trade exception
Detroit gets: Burks, Noel, Detroit's 2nd back
New York gets: Brunson signed and traded.

Pass. That could very well be a pick in the 20s.

It’s only good if there’s a player that weaver is specifically targeting on draft day.

No point to burn $30M next year on Hayward for a pick that you may not want.

As a Mavs fan and seeing Brunson walk out the door, I'd like to know if Hayes is available? Burks?

Also wondering if Detroit is leaning towards tanking for Wembanyama or trying to win?

Thanks.

The current form of Killian Hayes is absolutely unplayable next to Luka. He can pass and play defense, but can’t score. Luka would get doubled all the time, even more than before.

Thanks for the commentary. Any thoughts on Killian Hayes improving his scoring? I know he's young and could still improve his outside shot, but he did seem to start driving to the rim later in the season.

Olynyk to Boston using their TPE

Boston throws in Nesmith + 2023 2nd rd pick via Portland or 2023 2nd rd pick via Hou
