ideal lineups for next season
Priority should be to help Cade, Ivey, Bey and other young kids have positive growth. This doesn't mean just throw them out there again, but put them in a position to play good basketball.
Because of that, I'd love to see KO play in the starting line up. He spaces the floor, passes, and just plays the right way. I think Livers is a similar type of player, and will fill this role (in another position) eventually.
Cade/Hayes
Ivey/Burks
Bey/ Livers/Diallo
KO/Stewart
Bagely/Duren/Noel
Both these lineups offer spacing, and lob threats
We MUST have a lob threat in at all times when Cade and Hayes are running point. But we must also have 3 point threats to space.
It means Stewart has to be moved to the bench. He's not able to provide either of these key elements. His energy might be better suited off the bench anyway.

That lineup is abysmal defensively.
More likely we’ll see Stewart starting at the 5. Unsure about the 4.

Re: ideal lineups for next season
as of the players we have right now i'd say we're either going to be playing small with bey or livers at the 4 or have a bunch of 3-guard lineups with bagley or KO at the 4. don't love either scenario but hey it's a development year. we can prioritize getting a bigger wing to play the 4 next off season.
cade
ivey
burks
bey
stewart
would be the "close games out" lineup if i was coaching with the option to play hayes over ivey if needed for a specific defensive matchup.

I was with you up until the assumption that Hayes defense will be superior to Ivey.
Give Ivey a chance before we knock his D.
Outside of that, I love your lineup idea and think it will be exciting with the right amount of shooting.

it's more that ivey is a rookie and rookies are minus defenders almost without exception. and considering defense wasn't a strength in college i'd say it's pretty safe bet that hayes will be a better defender than ivey. same with stewart being a better defender than duren.
it's nothing against ivey, he has all the tools and has time to get better there. i'd still prefer him out there in crunch time but guarding guys like steph curry and navigating a million screens would be a very tall ask of him.

There is absolutely no way we are starting Bagley at center unless Stewart, Duren, and Noel are all hurt. Marvin has talent, but he has literally no idea what is going on on the court outside of his man. And sometimes not even his man, either. It’s pretty bizarre. Just watch him.

Your theory is very possible as long as Hayes keeps developing his offense in general and 3p shot specifically.
If Hayes is still a dud offensively, he’s defensive presence might not be enough.

Re: ideal lineups for next season
Bagley really struggled defensively for us last year, but hopefully part of that was just getting throw into a new system late in the season without much practice time. He, much like Drummond, has the physical ability to defend. He isn't slow foot sped wise like Garza. It will just come down to effort and IQ on that end.
If no changes are made, and we're handing over Bagley $10+ million per year, we're likely handing him the starting PF role and seeing what he can do with it. Small chance we'd go with Livers or Olynyk there. I think overall opposing teams with good forwards on offense we might throw Stewart on them and let Bagley take whatever big is the weakest offensive player.
I still wouldn't be surprised to see more chances made, but if tomorrow was opening day I think we'd role with this unit.
Cade - Ivey - Bey - Bagley - Stewart.

It wasn't. He sucks on defense. They bemoaned it in Sac the whole time he was there.

Re: ideal lineups for next season
Bagley has always been horrendous on defense. I don't think that he's ever going to improve in that area. He doesn't have the physicality, willingness and the fundamentals needed to be good defensively.

Cade - Ivey - Bey - Bagley - Stewart.
We gave Olynyk 12 mil to be a back up, so not necessarily.

This is the way. Just give the keys to the young guys during crunch time and see how they handle it for a few games. Ideally if Duren is performing well, you'd swap Stew out for him as well

Re: ideal lineups for next season
My ideal lineup gives both Cade, and Ivey weapons around the rim, as both are adept lane penetrators.
Duren
Bagley
Bey
Ivey
Cade
Spacing won't be as much a problem as people may think because of having two lob threats, and Bey, Cade, and hopefully Ivey are all capable shooters. Bagley can also hit the occasional three.
I believe Duren is more NBA ready then people are giving him credit for. He's super young, but he plays with ferocity.
It will be;
Stewart
Bagley
Bey
Ivey
Cade
Duren
Bagley
Bey
Ivey

Re: ideal lineups for next season
Is it possible that Duren starts from Day 1?
Duren
Stewart
Bey
Ivey
Cade
Bench then consists of:
KO/Noel
Bags
Livers
Diallo/Burks
Hayes/CoJo
That's 13 dudes that could be rotation players for us next season with "enough" vets to keep the kids in line

Re: ideal lineups for next season
I hope we try Duren with Stewart for a while. There’s a good chance we’ll struggle, but there’s also a chance it unlocks Stewart as a PJ Tucker type as I mentioned before. He’s actually quite solid defending in space, I’m not worried about him as a 4 defensively. The offense is the question.

I expect we'll see Beefstew shooting a lot more threes this year. Not sure how many he'll make, lol.

Just want to see a 5 out lineup could potentially be deadly on offense but the defense is crappy lol.
