Any interest in trading for Turner? No idea what the Pacers might want for him, but if they are looking for depth, we could offer them a collection of players. Some combination of the below:

PG Lee
PG Joseph
SG/SF Diallo
PF/C Olynyk
C Noel

If you had Myles Turner would you trade for any combination of those players?

No.

But maybe the Pacers GM wants to be a major player in the 2023 offseason.

 now that's funny. Maybe their GM would have some interest in kicking their can down the road another year or 2

He's a possible FA target next year depending on how things go this year, but I wouldn't trade anything for him at this point.

But the benefit of trading for him is to gain his RFA and Bird Rights.

Not that I'd be overly interested in him anyways, but Turner will be an unrestricted free agent after next season.

Getting his bird rights would be something but not much. If Detroit wants to make a run at him just wait until free agency next summer.

Turner
Olynyk
Stewart
Noel
Bagley
Duren
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

If they are trying to tank their way down and don't see themselves resigning him long term, they might take expiring contracts and a pick for him. Olynyk + Noel + 2029 Pistons unprotected first round pick.

I wouldn't do that trade because I don't love giving up unprotected future firsts, even if its 7 years from now. In theory we should be really good by then and we should have prime Cade leading the way but its just so far down the road not worth the risk for us.

Also, are we really trying to win as much as possible this year? It seems like its more about development of the young guys again.

We just drafted/traded for Duran, drafted Stewart two years ago and gave Bagley a three year deal. Turner is a pure 5. I don’t see how he fits.

We’re only trading for and signing bad players at this moment.

 Right?! I should do a search for the top-3 crappiest players with elevated salaries who are going to be free agents next offseason.

It seems inconsistent with what we’re already doing. And we’ve chosen a course, so best to stick to it now.

As a player he fits nicely with Cade/Ivey/Bey, but he doesn’t fit with our overall strategy.

Plus he’s an FA and we project to have space to make a run next year if he’s really what we want.

We've chosen fairly aggressively on a frontcourt consisting of Bagley, Stewart, Duren, Noel and then KO. Going for another big seems way unlikely even if Myles wanted to come here

With the big men that we have, it doesn’t make sense to add Turner. We need a big to help space the floor with Ivey. I thought Gallo would be a good short term answer.
