Kevin Knox
I haven’t seen anything about him being signed yet what’s the hold up on this signing I’m trying to see what that second year looking like
Another thing about Knox he had a decent rookie year but every year after he didn’t play much any reason for that or was that just Tom Thibodeau

I'd assume he will be a later in the offseason signing, because how we sign him will be depend on whether or not we're using any other cap space this summer or making other moves.... Obviously there are still some FA's out there and some teams possibly looking to shed salary, as well as the potential of us being 3rd team to help make a trade workout between two other teams.
We could use cap space to sign Knox, or we could use part of our room exception to sign Knox.

Thibodeau didn't help, but he had two years before Thibodeau, they soured on him before Thibodeau. He's really limited in what he can do, I don't hold out much hope for him, however I still think these are the kind of risk that teams should take.

Re: Kevin Knox
I think he’s going to be competing with Livers for minutes.
Based on the end of last season and the limited amount of summer league, I hope Livers gets every opportunity to shine. It seems like he put in a lot of work after getting healthy and is showing tons of confidence.

Knox should have been in the summer league with the rest of the G-league guys to get some practice in and show what he can do.

Definitely would have been nice to see him out there.
Unfortunately I don’t think his contact is finalized.

Wouldn't be surprised if part of our signing Knox was a willingness from him to play with the Cruise a bit this year.... then move up when injuries or Covid hit. He is still just 22 years old he is younger than Saben Lee.

Re: Kevin Knox
he's pretty much a PF version of frank jackson. both terrible defensively and offensively all they bring is shooting 3 pointers.... at a 34% clip.
i'd be shocked (and disappointed) if his deal was anything other than a next-to-minimum salary with the second year being a team option.

Re: Kevin Knox
So what's the scoop? Are we waiting on Kemba news/ using up our cap space in order to sign Knox to an exemption? What's Weaver up to? Hopefully somethin lol

There are still some scenarios to play out where having the most cap space possible could be beneficial... so I'd assume we're still waiting to sign Knox until until we get closer to training camp.
The move that we haven't made that is a bit surprising, is the fact that we haven't bought out Kemba. I would have thought that another team would give him the minimum and we'd buy him out at about a $3 million discount so he can sign with another team but its a bit surprising that he seemingly has no interest around the league at the moment.... which of course he might not want a buyout if no one else is offering him a contract currently.

Re: Kevin Knox
Probably for cap rules. Can the room exception only be used if the team is capped out? Knox will be signed by the Room. So maybe they need to have Kemba on the books to be able to use the Room. If they bought out Kemba then signing Knox to 3M would eat into that newly opened cap space. Now if they sign a FA to their remaining cap space then they will first officially buy out Kemba, sign that new player to cap themselves out and then use Room Exception to sign Knox.
Weaver = Hinkie
VW to Portland

Yes I'm quite sure that's the case.

Re: Kevin Knox
Can’t imagine it happening, but still hopeful that Knox to Detroit was a false rumor.
But it’s probably just some financial thing with getting Walkers buyout finished up and the reason it seems like it’s taking forever is because I’m used to shortened offseasons due to covid.

Re: Kevin Knox
The FO is most likely waiting to see if the remaining cap space can be used first. Should that happen, Knox can be signed in part or in full by using the Room exception. If they sign him now, his salary will come out of that cap space.
It wasn't a rumor. The contract was agreed to; it simply hasn't yet been signed and finalized with the NBA.

Until it’s officially announced, I can still hold on to my false reality.

So do we have any expectations? I didn’t realize he was that high of a draft pick.

I don’t feel bad about it since next year is a team option.
He’s a career 34% 3p shooter and his best season was just over 39%.
If he can hit 3s at close to that 39% clip, play good defense and avoid low percentage 2p shots, I’d call that a win.
He’d be a solid depth 3D SF on a cheap contract with lottery pick upside.

Re: Kevin Knox
They just posted in the salary cap thread, his 2nd year is a team option so very little ventured here for the Pistons.
