Zero interest in a 34yo Draymond Green on a 4yr max deal

Draymond wants a max deal with his next contract and GSW seemingly have no intention to giving him one. So now his home town Detroit Pistons get mentioned as a landing spot. Idle nothing speculation but Dray's mama chimed in -

In what world does it make a lick of sense to add a then 34yo Draymond Green to the Pistons in two seasons? His game will be fading fast and his personality and lofty opinions of himself will be only higher if he landed such a deal, and coming home he's instantly try to take over the lockerroom.
I wouldn't want Dray on a vet minimum deal for that reason let alone pay him 140M+ in his 34yo-38yo seasons.
And he has two years left now - why is he making noise about this? Is he going to hold out? Is he threatening the GSW brass to become a sideshow issue? I think they could trade Green without a second thought given the youngsters they have ready for increased roles. They'd probably love the tax penalty savings as well.

Perfect character guy and a winner but heck no too much money for a guy that's a negative on offense

I think he'd be a great addition. But not at that price.

That's a wild hot take if you wouldn't want Green on a vet min. He's a good locker room guy, he's not a Josh Smith who feuds with coaches and throws chairs because he ain't getting his shots. Duren, Ivey, and Cade could all learn from his defensive IQ, considering the abundance of fellow stars past or present has lauded it
He's wildly arrogant, not stupid and toxic
That being said. No universe in which he's worth a new 4 year max at his age and he'd be lucky if he can get a new 4/100 deal like last time

No way he’s getting a max deal from GSW. Should be year to year at this point. And not a good fit on the Pistons unless it is as an assistant coach.

Troy Weaver is calling all the shots. No need to worry about something this ridiculous.

I don't see Green as negatively as many, and I'd love for him to play a final few years on the Pistons.
Like others have said, it's the ridiculous asking price.

Draymond is a positive impact player and will likely remain one for a few more years.
But he’s not worth that kind of money. Not even close.

Depending on what else is available with our money, I could see a Draymond deal that makes sense. I'd only want to go 3 years guaranteed and that would put us in one year of likely paying the luxury tax in the first year of Cade's new extension.
23/24: $25 million guaranteed plus $4 million if team makes playoffs
24/25: $25 million guaranteed plus $4 million if team makes 2nd round
25/26: $25 million guaranteed plus $4 million if team makes 2nd round
26/27: $30 million (Not guaranteed unless team makes ECF in previous 3 seasons, or Draymond wins DPOY in previous 3 seasons)
Essentially 3 years $75 million guaranteed plus a chance to make $12 million more if the team has success.
I'd be ok with something like that. He's a player that puts winning over stats, and would be another culture guy to hopefully mentor the young kids.... could be a similar situation to Paul going to Phoenix and changing things with that organization.

Hes a good addition once were full blown in win now mode but definitely not at no max contract.
I think he would definitely sign here though seeing as he basically stays here all summer anyways.

If we really improve and he wants to join the pistons for like 3 years/$60 million, sure. Anything significantly more, let the Kings or Knicks have him.

I’m 100% down for a reasonably priced Dray. That’s my guy. But it has to be reasonable.

Green be worth $25 mil per. Anything more than that is a waste for someone who is often injured and a liability on offense.

You've posted incentive laden contract figures on multiple occasions. Question, do you actually know of any player that has these bonuses built into their contract?

Lots of players... can be up to 15% of a contract's value... but usually its not established starts like Draymond getting incentive based deals.

Adding a 34 year old player for $25 million a year for four years when this team is likely around the 35 win range right now? That's not just getting on the treadmill, it's taking a flying leap onto it, running a marathon on it, and marrying it.

Want no part of Draymond. guy is on the decline and he can't shoot. And, as everyone has pointed out he doesn't fit the Pistons' timeline. Frankly, Warriors were lucky this year they were able to get away with Green's low impact play as well as his sophomoric antics.

I’m a big Draymond fan, especially being from Saginaw. He definitely would help us win, it would be fun. If Stewart becomes a 3 and D PF we’re hoping I think it could work in a lot of ways, Piston Personality through and through. Weaver knows best but I’d bet it would be real fun.

You're way off. After 2023, our draft picks aren't meaningful pieces to what we're doing. We've got one more shot and then it doesn't matter who we sign we're not a lottery team... we're hoping to get 9th or 10th man in the rotation type pieces with late firsts... maybe get lucky and his a Tayshaun Prince but we're not a team stuck in no where. If we're still heavily banking on draft picks being high lottery picks by 2024 we're in a world of hurt as a franchise beyond anything any FAs will effect. Weaver **** up big time if we need to hit another good starter with our 2024 draft pick.
If Draymond Green was going to come in and take a bunch of shots and hinder the development of the young guys I'd have zero interest in what he would bring to the table. I think it'd be a lot more of adding old man Chris Paul than adding old man Carmelo Anthony though. Having a guy who knows how to win and knows what it takes, and can show that to the young guys would be beneficial for sure. Someone highly respected around the league.
Honestly, the plan might be to pass on FA again next year because we're wanting to pay our own guys, and as I mentioned previously signing Draymond to a 3 year deal (or any other vet FA) would in reality only put us in the luxury tax for a single season, the first season of Cade's max contract.... Then you'd get Draymond coming off the books right before you'd have to bay Ivey and Duren off their rookie contracts. Would be set up perfectly to give us the cap relief at the right time.
That said, I'd consider signing Draymond to the right type of deal, but I also wouldn't be opposed going in a bunch of other directions if it makes sense.
