I agree, “if” he’s effective, meshes well with the young guys and looks like he has a few productive seasons left, I’d be open to resigning him.
Extending him on the other hand comes with more risks. The team won’t have any information regarding the “if” until the season unfolds.
Another consideration is flexibility. I would hate to have a commitment to Bojan foil a larger opportunity give all the projected cap space the team will have.
Beyond just FAs, there are other creative ways to capitalize on that cap space. I guess that I just place a premium on the flexibility.
Flexibility is nice but at some point you gotta turn it into something.
Contracts now generally aren't long enough where a "mistake" kills you for 5+ years. A extension of 2 or 3 seasons would lock up a dude that even at his worst would be a top 8 or 9 guy in the rotation on any contender.
BB is a smart player, capable scorer and apparently a great dude to have in the locker room.
I know many of us are high on Bey & Livers so maybe BB serves as a mentor for those dudes?
The 5 is locked up with Stewart, Bags & Duren
The 4 would be locked up with Stewart, BB, Bey & Livers
The 3 would be locked up with BB, Bey, Livers and possibly Cade
I still don't see us making the play in games but we're definitely on that path IF the kids can all continue to develop.
Having a player like BB locked up for a few seasons would only help us climb the ladder IF he meshes well

So do you think the reason the team won't get far is just experience?
Essentially yes
Let's assume our rotation heavily features:
Stewart, Bags, Duren
BB, Livers, Bey
Ivey, Cade, Hayes, Burks
Youth is not served I the NBA. No Boys Allowed.
Historically older teams win.
You can change the game and increase your 3 point attempts and pace but one thing that has always been proven to work regardless of anything else is experience!
In every field you can imagine it matters!
We're gonna roll out a rotation where the vast majority have less than 3 years experience in the NBA - that doesn't fly, never has, never will.
Hence us acquiring the Plumlees, KOs, CoJos etc
Some can want to rush it and that's fine. Sone like you are forever optimistic about us leading into every season.
Me? I'd like to think I'm a realist. Preached patience when Weaver was hired. Was vilified for my support of whatever the FO was doing. Now? I'm still in wait and see mode but:
I'm getting to the point of going "well real soon this is gonna turn to something good and the only question is when that turn happens"
I doubt it's this season, most likely next. But I do see it coming assuming the kids just do the developmental work they need to do.
