Here’s a link to the first interview as a Pistons. I haven’t seen it posted yet so I wanted to start a thread unrelated to the trade.

Seems like a great teammate. Solid interview, nothing groundbreaking.

I’m also seeing some talk about a contract extension for him already and that scares me. It could complicate getting max value for him in a deadline trade.

If he’s effective, meshes well with the young guys and looks like he has a few productive seasons left, why not extend him? It’s not like players 1-10 all have to be 23 years old or younger. There’s nothing wrong with having a productive highly paid vet who potentially gets replaced a few years down the line by another productive and potentially highly paid vet, or by one of the 4th or 5th year players who has progressed enough to take over his spot.

Beyond just FAs, there are other creative ways to capitalize on that cap space. I guess that I just place a premium on the flexibility.

The 3 would be locked up with BB, Bey, Livers and possibly Cade

I still don't see us making the play in games but we're definitely on that path IF the kids can all continue to develop.

Having a player like BB locked up for a few seasons would only help us climb the ladder IF he meshes well

So do you think the reason the team won't get far is just experience?

What's the upside of extending him now? Unless you can get a bargain price on a shorter term extension, we're better off having the cap flexibility and also the likely a more valuable trade chip without more years on the deal.

If we're talking 2 years $15 million per year, sure sign me up for an extension at those numbers for 2 years $30 million. That way his deal falls off the books just as Cade gets the MAX. If you're talking about anything with a third year or anything more than that I'd rather just wait it out and see how the season goes and have more options in FA this summer.

At a minimum he's a full MLE free agent this summer, even at the age of 34.... but I'm not sure that teams will want to commit 4 years to him at his age. He's probably looking at a best case of 3 years $40 million on a contract this summer unless he has a career year with Detroit.

Essentially yes

Let's assume our rotation heavily features:

Stewart, Bags, Duren
BB, Livers, Bey
Ivey, Cade, Hayes, Burks

Youth is not served I the NBA. No Boys Allowed.

Historically older teams win.

You can change the game and increase your 3 point attempts and pace but one thing that has always been proven to work regardless of anything else is experience!

In every field you can imagine it matters!

We're gonna roll out a rotation where the vast majority have less than 3 years experience in the NBA - that doesn't fly, never has, never will.

Hence us acquiring the Plumlees, KOs, CoJos etc

Some can want to rush it and that's fine. Sone like you are forever optimistic about us leading into every season.

Me? I'd like to think I'm a realist. Preached patience when Weaver was hired. Was vilified for my support of whatever the FO was doing. Now? I'm still in wait and see mode but:

I'm getting to the point of going "well real soon this is gonna turn to something good and the only question is when that turn happens"

I doubt it's this season, most likely next. But I do see it coming assuming the kids just do the developmental work they need to do.

Yes I agree we should wait to extend him but I'd be more inclined to retain him as opposed to waiting for some imaginary possible piece that may or may not sign on the dotted line.

There's 100+ FAs... its impossible to say who will be worth going after next summer. The hardest part is his age. If he were only 31 sure you can give him a 3 or 4 year extension.... but he'll be starting an extension at age 34 and at that point most NBA players have called it a career.... sure he's an elite shooter and that often extends with age longer than some other skills, but each year moving forward he's a step slower. And its not about not keeping him at all, its about having flex-ability next summer you can always just resign him as a FA when the time comes if he's who Weaver feels is the best option.

To be clear, only the headline states he wants an extension. The verbiage in the article says he's seeking a new multiyear contract, not an extension. And since he's on an expiring contract what's he supposed to say? That he's NOT seeking a new contract? I don't think it's anything to be concerned about at this point. If he wants an extension or a new contract before the season starts and the Pistons don't want to give him one until they see what he's got, he doesn't get one. End of story.

I always found it a bit baffling that a player seeking a contract extension would lower his value. Aren't all free agents seeking extensions? Would him not desiring an extension raise his value? Makes no sense to me.

Yeah i don't understand that either. I always assumed the guy was gonna be looking for another contract unless he was retiring.

Maybe I’m just reading into it too much. I was hoping that Troy didn’t hear all the positive reactions to the trade and give him a 2/$40M extension being that the cap is increasing.

From what ive read Bojan will get $19.55 million for this season.

"Bogdanovic is set to earn $19.55MM in the final year of his contract after averaging 18.1 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game in 69 ..."

His Utah deal was for 4yrs/$73million.
