The Ringer's Detroit Article
Thought I would put the link here in case anyone missed it. It reads like a hometown paper's overly optimistic hype piece but it is from an objective source, so that's cool. It focuses a lot on the team culture and work ethic of the young guys:

Tom Gores' Securus faced a class action lawsuit in 2024. The company engaged in a "quid pro quo kickback scheme" with county jails in Michigan which banned in-person visits in order to maximize revenue from voice and video calls.

Re: The Ringer's Detroit Article
While many teams were enamored of Duren coming into the draft, Weaver may be the biggest believer of all. He sees great upside in his new center with the relentless motor, who was also the youngest player in his class. “He has all the physical gifts,” Weaver says, “but he’s never gotten credit for how smart of a player he is.”
The 18-year-old might end up being the biggest steal of the draft. He’s focused on improving as quickly as he can.
How odd...there was nothing in there from Weaver that Duren should spend time in the G-league because he's so raw (my favorite nonsensical take of the season so far by the usual suspects on this board).

Re: The Ringer's Detroit Article
Such a great article and delves really well into the mental aspect of the team, coaching staff, and front office
The quote about Bey saying he'd play this game for free due to how much he loves it is telling. Just wish he would dial it back a bit with his off balance heaves but can't have it all I suppose
Lots of fluff for Ivey and Cade backcourt
Stew and Duren getting mentored by Big Ben and Rashard is a good thing too

It was a perfectly reasonable take considering that he hasn't even turned 19 yet, is raw which is something that just about everybody who has watched him play can agree on, and the Pistons have a lot of bodies at the 4 and 5 currently.
I know you get flustered at times when people disagree with you but calling this take nonsensical is a tad unnecessary.
Anyway, it'll be interesting to see where he fits in the rotation when Noel returns.
The one thing that is pretty polished about his game currently is the ability to grab boards and his defensive footwork is pretty good so hopefully he'll get some significant bench minutes early in the season.

Putting me and "flustered" in the same sentence is nonsensical, especially in this context. I was right. What's there to be "flustered" about?
Watching Duren play at Memphis and even now in preseason, it WASN'T a perfectly reasonable take; that's the point. Limited in his skill set at this point? Sure. But so raw he can't hang with NBA players? Clearly not. I know you get flustered when any of your takes don't turn out as you hoped and that gets pointed out to you, but it is what it is. "He hasn't turned 19 yet and is raw" is hardly a comprehensive analysis that says "Should and probably will go to the G-league" for a player drafted at 13. Unless you think Weaver is so dumb that he'd trade up to take a kid at 13 that he expected would start in the G-league and was a total hit or miss project, which on its face is absolutely nonsensical regardless of Duren's abilities. Who trades up to take a player at 13 with plans to ship him to the G-league because he's so undeveloped? That literally makes no sense on a comparative basis. You may think that but clearly Weaver doesn't, has said he doesn't (i.e. "I expect him to contribute this season"), I didn't think so after watching Duren play at Memphis, and also said so.

lol, name one instance. Sure, I got a bit flustered when somebody called me nonsensical (or anybody who dare say that maybe Duren should start in the G League) but other than that, not really.
Everybody on this board knows that you're combative with your replies but it is what it is.
Anyway, for the sake of board lets just focus on Duren. I started this bickering so I'll take the L and move on.
I don't think it's unreasonable to think that a kid who is the youngest player in the draft and has a raw skillset on a roster with plenty of 4s and 5s spend some time to start the season in the G League instead of fighting for minutes at the end of the bench rotation. Nobody said anything about him spending the entire season in the G League or anything like that.
With Noel out and now Bagley, it appears that there is an opening for Duren to get significant minutes but that didn't appear to be the case with a fully healthy roster IMO.

No one's bickering. It's a cute little card that gets played, i.e. you can disagree and present a counterargument but when I do it's "being combative," but that's fine. You do you. And as you said, you chose to address my post when it addressed no one personally soooo...yeah.
As I always say, when someone has a take like "probably should AND WILL get sent to the G-league," i.e. speaking in terms of certainty, there's always the risk of it getting pointed out when the assertion doesn't manifest itself. To me it's just funny to see people speak with confidence and certainty about what WILL HAPPEN when the exact opposite becomes reality. And that's the point of the forum--entertainment.
I personally think Duren will get far more than limited bench minutes this season; based on what I've seen thus far I expect that he'll be the rebounding anchor of the bench at a minimum and Casey will start developing some post plays for him. And I'd expect that to lead to about 20 mpg on a pretty consistent basis. The difference is that I didn't say that WILL happen.

I hope that is the case but I'd be interested to see how the minutes are staggered when Noel and Bagley return because if you look at this rotation, I'm just not sure where Duren fits in, right now with a healthy group and keeping in mind that Casey likes his vets....
Cade
Ivey
Bey
Bogjanovic
Stewart
Hayes
Burks
Livers
Bagley
Noel
Diallo
CoJo
Duren
So I'm sure you can see my concern about his minutes when the team is healthy which is why I'm not sure why my take was considered nonsensical.
With Bagley down and who knows what's going on with Noel, that all changed and we're now seeing him get some run.

Again, the nonsensical part was the "probably should and will start in the G-league."
The difference here is that you're placing Duren "below" Noel, so to speak. I don't think Casey/Weaver see it that way. Given Weaver's statement that he expects Duren to contribute this season--and I'll absolutely throw the caveat out there that of course he's not going to get in front of a microphone and say "I don't expect him to contribute this season"--I think Duren will get plenty of playing time. Even more so if another season of wins meaning nothing pokes its head over the horizon.

I think that's where we disagree. I think they brought in Noel as a vet defensive anchor off the bench. Weaver has had an affection for Noel for years so I think he brought him in to contribute on a team that is lacking vets and then sell him off at the deadline which would pave the way for Duren who might be more ready by that time to be a regular contributor.
None of us REALLY know what the plan is but I'm just basing this on hunch and a little bit of my own logic of what the plan should be but now with the injuries, the dynamic with Duren has changed so he's going to get his minutes now regardless.

what helps duren not spend time in the g-league are the injuries to noel/bagley and the olynyk trade, freeing up minutes. some people might not have foresaw those coming but i don't think you can fault them for that.

Not sure who this was targeted towards but I'll own up to being a 'usual suspect' on this 'nonsensical take'.
Is wanting Duren to get consistent minutes nonsensical?
It's definitely playing out differently so far now that Bagley is injured but it's definitely plausible that Duren gets less than a full slate of minutes given our full slate of bigs. I think even Olynyk was still on the roster at the time as well when this was discussed?
I guess you if need to take a jab at something to make you feel better go for it?
It just seems like a weird thing to deem nonsensical; especially given he still looks completely and utterly raw on the offensive end.

What some people seem to be missing here is that whether or not Duren should (or will, as one claim went) spend time in the G-league is dependent on only one thing--whether or not Casey and/or Weaver decide he needs to spend time in the G-league. And so far there has been utterly zero indication that he will. So the "I think he should because he's young and raw, therefore it's not a nonsensical take" card, when not only are Weaver and Casey NOT mentioning anything about the G-league but are implying the opposite (smart player, talented, expect him to contribute this year, etc.), doesn't play.

I expected Duren to get significant minutes because of Bagley and Noel's likelihood of down time with injuries. I still do.

All I know is that it doesn't matter, because Duren, with the Bagley injury, is going to get significant playtime this season.

that quote doesn't say anything specifically about the g-league but does echo what a lot of posters are saying about him being raw.
And again, I'll go back to the point I made that only one thing determines whether or not Duren sees G-league time--Weaver/Casey deciding he needs it. And there has literally been zip zero zilch nada indication in any way, shape or form that they plan on sending him there. I specifically said that the nonsensical part was NOT about differences in evaluation of Duren's skill set, i.e. you think he's raw enough for the G-league and I don't, but the claim that he should and will go to the G-league when the guys who make that decision have said nothing that could possibly be construed as it being not only a real possibility, but ANY possibility.
And if you want to split hairs, that quote to me translates much more easily to "He's a rookie" as it does to "He's raw" because it implies lack of experience, not lack of ability.
