Would you trade our FRP for KD?

Nets are a dumpster fire. At some point they might do a total rebuild. Would you give up our unprotected 2023 first rounder for KD?
We know that protections would need to be removed. And we have to match salaries - Burks, Bagley, Noel, Hayes - I think that’s close enough to get it done.
It’s a crazy win-now move, takes away our cap space next year, leaves us with Duren/Stewart at center. But maybe we become an instant playoff team? And if we learn to play defense, just maybe we could make some noise?
Assuming the Nets would do it, would you?

They won't want picks because they don't own their future firsts. They will want players to stay competitive. Jalen Brown for KD is certainly way more likely, and reportedly was the best offer the Nets got in the trade market for KD.

i'm assuming this is completely hypothetical because we technically don't own our FRP this year until the regular season is over and the pick doesn't convey.
but even if we could trade it i wouldn't unless we had the clear motive to trade durant. our roster is still super young and even with cade and durant we'd be like a first round playoff team at best.

Depends on where the pick lands and how the class is looking

Yep.
This was a simple "Not right now" for me.

I guess everything is hypothetical

Yes, and I mentioned the protections would have to be lifted. I think the Knicks actually own our pick if it conveys, so a minor trade with them would have to happen first, or a 3 way.
I was sort of wondering if Cade, Ivey, Bojan, KD, Duren with a bench of CoJo, Diallo, Livers, Stewart would be able to get to the 2nd round.

Under no circumstances.
And we really only could do this on draft day/during the off-season using a players rights I believe.

The timing for picking up KD would be after this team made an ECF or Finals run and fell short, i.e. very close, damn the future/cost, get this guy and win it all now. And obviously that's not where this team is at.

KD is a top 5 player in the NBA. Hell yeah you make that trade lol. Yeah he’s 34 but he loves to hoop so at the very least when we get the decline in 2-3 years, you’re left with an elite stretch 4.
Even with the worst record, we are way more likely not to get Wemby. I’m not passing on a HOFer who clearly still has it and has the ability to carry a team for at least 2 more seasons to gamble on a rookie, who maybe one day can be half as good as KD, which won’t even happen until 4-6 years in the league. That’s bananas.

The only way I get involved in a KD trade is as a 3rd party facilitator where we leach value from somebody. Wrong situation for both parties.

We would need to trade Ivey and Duren for win now pieces as well for it to make sense. I don't know which win now piece. Cleveland wouldn't trade Allen, but for Example Ivey and Duren for Allen + assets to get our 1st back from NY + Quentin Grimmes.
Than our 1st unprotected and fillers for KD and we keep Burks (he would start).
Cade/Burks/Bojan/KD/Allen - Grimmes/Livers/Bey/Stewar off the bench. That would be a good team, but one injury and we would be screwed, and there are 3 guys on the wrong side of the 30's in our starting lineup. So an injury is likely.
So, no, even making moves to make KD possibly our last piece, I don't think we should go for it.

KD does like training the young players though in the off-season. I've noticed for years now of him posting videos with all the new rookie level players.
Wonder how much he would embrace a young team with Cade as a option 1B
Like if the trade is a hypothetical #6 pick, Bey and Stewart, do you do it?
That's a crazy trio with Ivey and Cade getting valuable winning experience.

It's a no brainer for us for obvious reasons because top 5 players are almost never moved in this league. Hayes + Burks + Noel + Diallo + CoJo works in the trade checker. Can't trade Bagley yet due to the date he signed his contract.
We'd have to give NY some incentive to give us the pick back to trade to the Nets.
That said, it would never happen.

It would have to be done draft night and one of Bey or Stewart would most certainly be going back with the pick.
Not that that's a game changer losing one or both of them for Durant

It doesn't have to be done on draft night, we could very simply call up NY and let them know we'll give them a 2nd rounder to change the details of the pick owed to a 100% unprotected 2025 first round rounder and then we'd be able to trade away our 2023 first rounder unprotected to Brooklyn.

As long as it's not a top 2 pick, so maybe if we're a play-in contender at the deadline or after the lottery. Don't think I'd risk a shot at Wemby or Scoot.
KD's game is all technique and being able to shoot over anyone. He's probably got 3 yrs left at an all-NBA level and then a few more after that as a high level role player.
He'd also help us attract other players to put around Cade and company.

Yeah i wouldn't let them have it unprotected, that could backfire real bad.

It's just an example of how we could easily trade the pick right now. Just have to make a different agreement with NY on the pick and we can trade our 2023 first if NY gets a 2025 or later pick only.
That said, I think its a safe bet that there's zero chance Brooklyn would want to trade with us for our pick, because they don't have their own picks they'll almost certainly trade KD for a current all-star type player they don't want to bottom out and let Houston get their lottery picks.

No. Stay the course and KD would be miserable here anyway
