Wiretap - Mavs, Suns, Cavs, & Lakers pursuing a Bojan trade with Pistons

Cavs considered unlikely to "Match Detroit's asking price" after decimating their future picks/assets for Mitchell. Their best package would likely only include a few 2nd rounders and a younger prospect like Okoro. I'm guessing they wouldn't want to trade LeVert, who's been playing 31 MPG for them.
Lakers previously were rumored to offer Nunn, Beverly, and a protected 2027 1st but Weaver reportedly sad only with that pick coming unprotected.
Dallas is interesting, as they have taken a lot of heat for not putting a good enough team around young superstar Luka. They might honestly be the most desperate to add a player like Bojan. Dallas has already traded away their 2023 first to the Knicks so the most you're likely getting from them is an unprotected 2025 first and some 2nds. Dorian Finney Smith is an interesting player as well who got paid but has been a bit underwhelming this year as his shooting numbers have declined.
The Suns obviously are in a situation where they need help and their CP3 window is closing. The Suns have all of their future picks, and obviously Crowder as a contract to move in a trade.

Hopefully we make a move for ours and his sake.

I'd only bite on it for a desperation trade with high quality picks coming back. Lakers were also reported today to not be willing to part with future firsts. If that's true, cross them off.

It's going to take a third, or even fourth team for Bojan to be moved.
Every contender would kill to have him, as he is a walking bucket, but those same contenders don't have the picks to get it done. The right player in exchange is something different though.
Weaver is going to wait this one out I think until the right deal comes along. There are a few dark horse contenders that have the right players, and picks, but that's going to be up to them.

"The Pistons are seeking at least one first round pick and a young player with upside or additional draft capital".
Don't get me wrong, Weaver is in the catbird seat and has no reason to trade him unless he gets the package he desires but nobody is biting for that demand Troy but... it's worth a shot I suppose. Also, the Pistons need to take a significant salary back so that further complicates a potential trade.

We’re still over a month away from the deadline so there’s no reason for Weaver to budge on his asking price even if he’s theoretically willing to. The subpar offers will still be there on February 9th.

There's a singular risk-averse reason to move earlier that you really can't predict. I'm not even going to mention it directly. <knocks in wood> . But if the offers aren't close to our valuation it's still not worth moving now.

I dont know what the Mavs can offer but if I were a Mavs fan id want to do anything I could to pair Luka with Bojan.

I see no reason to move him for less than a steal. No reason not to give ourselves an opportunity to have Bojan around for a playoff run next year if our young players continue to improve and we make a splash next offseason.

Mavs don’t have much to offer, not sure what Cleveland would offer, and the lakers would get laughed off the phone with the rumor they’re not looking to move out draft picks.
If we’re going to move him, I think it’s Phoenix. They can pay about value for him, and you’ve got to figure Crowder will be a part of it. With the idea that we’d get compensated somehow for taking him to probably cut him.
So something like Bojan and Livers for Cam Johnson, Dario Saric, Jae Crowder (for the Pistons to cut him), and some picks with at least a first. Maybe Detroit adds a second to get a better package of picks. Go ahead roast that offer

Weaver is setting a high price now. He will take best offer later.

There are opportunity costs with this. The real question is “Can we spend $20M more wisely in free agency and get a better player than Bojan this summer?”
So it is:
Picks + prospects + $20M free agent
Vs
Bogdanovic
It’s a tough call. If we do move him, I hope we don’t take on any non-expiring contracts unless it is a solid SF.

All these reports about Pistons willing to send out Bojan. Eventually you have to assume there's something to them, but to be honest, I have no idea why. This merry-go-round in the bottom muck of the NBA eventually needs to stop, and Bojan clearly helps the Pistons do that, and I just can't imagine a trade package that would help more than hurt next year's team success.

From what I have seen, the free agency class is pretty weak.

Agreed. But just like last summer, if you have cap space, teams come calling to make trades. So there are different ways to use it.

You may be correct, but how "good" do you expect the team to be next year? Honest to God question.
I'm an optimistic person, amd every year im hopeful, but the past two season, especially this one have beaten me down like a dog. It feels like the more talent the team adds, they somehow get worse. When does that cycle end?
Wouldn't it be better to cut bait with Bojan now, get whatever picks you can, and try it all over again? I'm not sure the talent the Pistons have gotten, are what we think they are.

Too bad Golden State doesn't "have interest" in Bojan.

Yeah I'm sure they'd take him for peanuts but GSW just needs to get healthy. They have the players to be successful.

It'll come down to the offers for Bojan. If Weaver pulls the trigger it's because the return helps move this team forward in some shape or form.
