Post#1 » by theBigLip » Sat Feb 4, 2023 11:09 pm

So we will have the trade deadline, then the draft, then finally free agency. What will we have to spend? Here is the latest.
https://www.spotrac.com/nba/detroit-pistons/cap/2023/

I assume we keep Livers, Burks and Diallo ($9.88M cap hold). We decline options on Noel and Knox.

Bojan Bogdanovic $20,000,000 Vet Extension / Bird
Marvin Bagley III $12,500,000 Free Agent / Bird
Cade Cunningham $11,055,360 Drafted / Rookie Scale
Alec Burks $10,489,600 Acquired via Trade
Hamidou Diallo $9,880,000 Cap Hold
Nerlens Noel $9,680,000 Acquired via Trade
Jaden Ivey $7,614,480 Drafted / Rookie Scale
Killian Hayes $7,413,955 Drafted / Rookie Scale
Cory Joseph $6,701,500 Cap Hold
Isaiah Stewart $5,266,713 Drafted / Rookie Scale
Saddiq Bey $4,556,983 Drafted / Rookie Scale
Jalen Duren $4,330,680 Drafted / Rookie Scale
Kevin Knox $3,000,000 Free Agent / Space
Dewayne Dedmon $2,748,674 Dead/Retained Cap
Rodney McGruder $1,989,698 Cap Hold
Isaiah Livers $1,836,096 Drafted / Space
Jared Rhoden $1,774,999 Cap Hold

Projected Cap $134,000,000
Total Salary $(120,838,738)
Cap Space $13,161,262

Keep Diallo only $10,466,197 Remove cap holds
Cap Space $23,627,459

Noel/Knox options declined $12,680,000 Keep Livers/Burks
Cap Space $36,307,459

Next year's lineup before Draft and FA. 5 roster spots available. Fill with a couple in the draft and three in FA.

Case/Hayes
Ivey/Burks/Diallo
Bogdanovic/Bey
Stewart/Livers
Duren/Bagley

If we trade Burks/Bogdonovich/Bagley for Westbrook (or other expirings), we would have $79M in cap space.

If we land the #1 or #2 pick it will also take up a decent chunk of cap space before we get rolling into FA.

https://bleacherreport.com/articles/10064297-nba-rumors-blazers-jerami-grant-could-sign-pistons-contract-in-free-agency

James L. Edwards III of The Athletic reported a Grant-Pistons reunion could be in the works this summer when the veteran swingman becomes an unrestricted free agent.

It could all be going to Weavers buddy Grant.

So weavers trying to pull an “Antonio McDyess-Denver”? Trade a player for assets a year before he becomes a free agent, then resign player when he actually becomes a free agent.

Thats what could be happening here. I would actually be fine with it if we landed him for the deal he turned down with the Blazers 4 years for 112mill. I believe hes going to be looking for that 233mill for 5 year deal in free agency. Hes going to be the cream of the free agent crop. Good for him if turns his career season into that but hes not the guy to move the needle for us.

Grant + Bojan as our starting forwards would be really good for us. We're still weak at center with Duren/Bagley but hopefully Duren continues to improve at a rapid rate. It also allows you to have the Hayes/Bey/Stewart bench unit with I think is best for the team until Stewart can get a bit more consistent with that jump shot. We'd actually be lined up to have a great bench unit.

Mcdyess was waived after the trade if I remember correctly?

Anyway not opposed. This year's FA suck. I want Porzingis but I imagine not many are in my boat lol. Fine with Grant

I thought he was referring to Dice being traded to Phoenix from Denver early in his career. He then signed back with Denver a year later.

Dice left Denver 3 different times in his career.

I think if a 5y 233M offer came to him and he signed it would instantly become the worst contract in the league. I see him being somewhere between the 30-35M AAV range, which is pretty hefty but with the cap spike coming due to the new TV deal in a couple of years it is (relatively speaking) not terribly higher than the 20M a year we were paying him when we signed him to his current contract. I agree though, not a great needle mover, although would provide some much needed perimeter defense.

Cade Cunningham $11,055,360
Alec Burks $10,489,600
Hamidou Diallo $9,880,000 Cap Hold
Jaden Ivey $7,614,480
Killian Hayes $7,413,955

Projected Cap $134,000,000
Total Salary $97,692,541

Assume our Lotto pick = 10 mil

Offer Grant Williams a deal starting in the 20-25 mil range:

Duren, Bagley
Bojan, Stewart
Williams, Bey, Livers
Ivey, Burks, Diallo
Cade, Hayes

+ the Lotto pick

Bring back the likes of CoJo, Noel & McGruder on vet minimum deals and hope the kids take a leap forward

That all sounds terrible man and guarantees we’ll be picking in the lotto again with even more dead salary. Grant Williams at 20-25 million? Ouch. Rather have went all in to sign Brunson last summer

We werent looking to add major guys last summer because the plan was run the kids and have high odds at Wemby and Scoot. If Cade didnt go down and we added a Ayton or Brunson the timeline was going to be pushed up and we can say good by to Wemby and Scoot odds.

Williams might not be a offensive stud but you might want to consider what the market value is for a guy like him.

At 20-25 mil per you could easily make the argument Boston would match that and make other moves around the margins to manage their cap.

Duren - Stewart
Bojan - Williams - Stewart
Williams - Bey - Livers
Ivey - Bey - Cade
Cade - Hayes - Ivey

That's 9 man rotation and Williams would be our primary wing defender as long as he's on the floor.

Ideally our Lotto pick is Wemby but who knows where it'll land?
