Mikal Bridges

He should be one our main targets the night of the draft. He is locked with a good contract for the next 3 years after this season. I can see the Nets going through a complete rebuilding and he wouldn't fit in their timeline.

Out of the Top2 I am ok trading the pick for him. Brooklyn already has 2 picks in the 20-30 range.

What would you think it would take? A Top5 pick? Trading down?

I don't think they want to trade him. They don't own their future picks they owe them to Houston so they don't want to tear it down to nothing like we did. Reportedly, they were offered four future first round picks for him from a team at the deadline and they turned it down. They want to win now.

I don't know the Nets would trade him unless somebody gives up a top 2 pick. Just my hunch though, since the prospects drop to a different tier after 2. It's rare a young talented wing, locked into a reasonable deal, will get traded at all honestly.

Non-contending teams’ willingness to deal away their high quality players is often based on the “hidden” benefit of getting better draft choices from losing more games.

The Nets have no such benefit- so they’ll be trying their hand at rebuilding through late picks and getting benefit from their quality (young-ish) players. And I’m sure they’re hoping to land another star via trade or free agency down the road.

The third pick or so might be enticing to them but they turned down 4 first rounders for him.

If not Bridges, the Nets suddenly have a logjam of wing guys:

Bridges
Cam Johnson
Finney-Smith
Joe Harris
Royce O’Neale
Yuta Watanabe
Ben Simmons

So the Nets might be a very good trading partner for us this offseason.

The Nets most likely will want to trade away Ben Simmons based on his contract and production, IMO. They also have a crapload of picks so its possible they try to package him and picks for a star player... or they could merely want to shed his salary and get back other pieces. I personally am not a fan of Ben but if we gave up nothing but say Burks, Bagley, and Hayes for him it would be something to think about for Weaver.

That said, I still would be happy if Cam Johnson was our big FA target this summer. He's an above average starter who defends well and shoots well.

Simmons handles the ball with Dinwiddie.

Finney-Smith plays the 4. So does O'Neale.

Watanabe is perimeter player on offense, but he's an interior defender.

Remember, although we don't, much of the league still plays small ball.

I don't want to touch Ben Simmons with a 10 foot pole. I'll leave that one at that.

The glut of 3 and D folks on the Nets definitely indicates potential opportunities in the future if they want to consolidate or reposition things. Hard to say if we'll have the right pieces for them to make it work (so much depends on the draft). I think it's one to keep an eye on but if/when opportunity arises, I imagine it'll be one of the others they're willing to part with, not Bridges. He seems like easily the best individual player they got from their recent trades.

Bridges is gonna cost too much. I don't want to be handing out 1st at this stage. Maybe go after cam Johnson in fa and try at finney-Smith.

I mean kinda?

Simmons is a position-less player and DFS often plays power forward. And Cam Johnson is a PF if he’s anything.

The Clippers are sorta built this way too.

I'd trade Scoot for Bridges

I said in the draft thread that my desire is for a Mikal Bridges archetype. He’s perfect for the Pistons. Likely far too expensive to acquire but I would consider trading our pick this year outside of 1&2.

Pick 3 and beyond is also where taking a 3&D Prospect of our own starts to really fit the draft board.

Is Bridges worth it?

Would everyone rather have Bridges or 3 and a FA? Or 3 and another guy who we could trade for?

Bridges
3 and Grant Williams
3 and Jerami Grant
3 and Cameron Johnson
3 and *trade target player*

Personally I'd rather have 3 and cam Johnson but I'm not sure if we can get him.

This would be a bad move, if for no other reason than Scoot is cost controlled and Scoot will be 19, Bridges will be 27.

Depends on how quickly the Pistons can put it all together. Bridges is perfect for this Pistons team. A true 3/D wing.

Cade
Ivey
Mikal
Duren
Wiseman

Thats tough defensively.

Starting at the #3 pick, im considering seriously trading for that type of player.

Feels like we can get a pretty good 3&D prospect at #3.

#3OA gets ~9M first year, Bridges is making $21M next year. So 12M out of FA budget. I think you let Burks out of TO and are back to same monies to spend and a better situation to lure another FA with.

And if it's Scoot and #2, maybe you have BKLN take Bagley as part of the deal.

I think Cam Johnson is more possible now than he was when he was in Phoenix. We would probably have to give up assets and overpay to get him since he is a RFA.

I like DFS a lot, we should go after him.
