The Real reason Weaver moved on from Bey? He wanted 4 years $95 million extension this summer.

According to reports, Bey and or "his team" let the Pistons know he wanted a contract extension this summer similar to the deal that DeAndre Hunter got (which was 4 years $95 million).

Also interesting, Bey and Cade share the same agent (Cade has two agents from Excel Sports James Dunlevy, who is also Bey's agent... and Jeff Schwartz, who is also the agent for Bagley and Wiseman.

Pretty interesting that one of Cade's agents is trying to get Bey nearly $24 million per year that would wreck the entire "restore" of the franchise to give a player like Bey that type of contract.... so sink that much money into a guy who mostly looks like he is projecting to be a bench player for at least the next few seasons.

Who the heck would give him that lol. Bey is worth like 14-15 mil a year max. If bey wants that we'd have to offer Cam Johnson the full max to even attempt to steal him away from the nets.

Interesting. You wonder if part of the reason that Weaver was motivated to trade Bey then was because he knew he clearly wasn't going to offer Bey anything close to that, and didn't want to create any bad blood with the agent that also looks after Cade.

According to reports, the Pistons let Bey and|or "his team" know that they wanted him to play defense and have a more consistent shot, similar to DeAndre Hunter, so he'd be worth 4 years $95 million.

That's how he should be used as a spot up shooter. We had him dribbling and iso scoring for some reason.

I would like 20plus mil a year too, but it doesn’t mean I’ll get it.
I think he’ll be better in Atlanta with trae and Murray so he might get his deal there.
It would have been good to get a look at him next to a healthy cade… oh well

No wonder Weaver refused offers for Bojan, knowing he planned to move Saddiq. I wonder if Atlanta was aware of this issue before the trade.

I blame the loss of Bey on the coach.

You can't let a square peg try to put himself in a round hole for 2 whole years.

Now he goes to Atlanta and learns how to play his role perfectly.

That's a loss, because if we have a coach that can't persuade a 3&D player to play His role, which is the simplest role in the game, how can he persuade anyone else to play their role?

You can't always expect the players to coach themselves.

Bey was clearly being misused here.

Also, notice also that Grant is shooting WAY above his shooting percentages in Detroit and his usage is even higher in Portland, just as they were prior to Detroit.

It's almost as if Casey blows as a coach. He's the biggest achilles heel for Weaver. A new coach might arguably be the most important move this offseason.

Grant was very efficient before he played with us, but in Detroit, he played a little less defense (still good) but became inefficient as the #1 guy, which he is not in Portland.

Trading him because his agents wanted him to get an (currently) overvalued extension makes no sense. We had his rights next year and he would be a RFA the following year so the market could dictate his worth.

Weaver better think Wiseman is the better player for the long term or he made a mistake. Saddiq had 3 and D potential and was working on his game here because there was no need to be a 3 and D guy on the worst team in the league.

When it’s all said and done, Weaver must think a Duren/Wiseman/Stewart 4/5 rotation is our future.

If we get Vic, Weaver gets lucky because one of the 3 is definitely gone then because we got a Hall of Famer barring injury. . However, if we don’t, and it fails, we lost this trade.

I guess just about every player in the league has 3 and D "potential" then. Bey in his Pistons career was consistently one of our worst defenders and streaky from three. Our defense as a whole has looked better since we traded him.

But, yeah, Weaver definitely thinks Wiseman is the better player for the long term. Whether he's right or not is to be seen, but I understand the risk.

Hope Diq likes Atlanta. Not sure how many have actually lived there recently but it's kind of a mess with every man and woman looking to move down here since Florida is more or less full and trying to get away from Cali or NY

Grant was not the #1 guy last season in Detroit.
