Mike Hopkins is the dark horse here. Was an assistant coach with Weaver back at Syracuse, and was Beef Stew's coach over at Washington.

Hey, could be a nice choice. Nice to think that the new coach is well-known by a few already in the organization. That's one guy on the list.

Good for him Casey seems like a good guy and really is a great public speaker. I'm sure he'll add some value to the FO. Now hopefully we can get a nice talented coach to start fresh

Not sure I'm a Rex believer, given how bad our defense has been on his watch.

Great news.

As for the new hire, their opportunity to experiment with virgin head coaches has passed, imo. They should have done that two years ago. Now there's too much at stake. You need to go with someone who you know knows what they're doing.

Yup. If Weaver wanted to hire an unproven coach, he should have done that right away.

Instead we went with Jerami Grant, Plumlee, etc.

Now is the time for someone like Snyder, but he was hired and 100% our next coach will also be black I assume.

Udoka sounds really good as the next head coach to me despite the controversy. Stackhouse and Kenny Atkinson sounds good as well.

I have nothing but respect for Casey the man, but this is great news. Though I doubt we’ll be playoff team next year, even with a healthy Cade and possibly VW, we do need to get some of the stink of the last couple years off the franchise. New coach, hopefully six or seven new players. Next to go are dudes like CoJo, McGruder, Boeheim, Hampton, Rhoden, and hopefully two or three of Wiseman, Bagley, Hayes, Diallo , Bojan, Burks, etc.

vege and I don’t agree on a lot of things, but he’s right … the only players on the roster that really matter right now are Cade, Ivey and Duren. I want Stewart and Livers to stick around, too, but if they don’t, it’s not a big deal.

Casey is a good man, and I'm sure the players learned many important things from him. I hope he stays here for more than a year.

Udoka - called out his team and stuck to his guns while the Celtics stunk it up and then January hit and they just killed it after that.

Atkinson - helped rebuild the Nets to the point they were actually a desirable location that signed 2 Max free agents

Cassell - rookie head coach he'd be but he's been a assistant since 2009

Stackhouse - rookie head coach he'd be but he's been a coach of some description since 2015. SEC Coach of the Year 2023

Not that it really matters but 3 of the 4 are African American.

I believe Nick Nurse is a pipe dream

I also don't have any clue on any other candidates that might be out there other than Becky and I'm not willing to go down that road.

Does OUGrizz still frequent the board? He used to have a database on every thing including assistant coaches

Well, as expected.

I can't imagine that any coaches get hired until after the draft lottery so still over a month until we see a coaching resolution. Whoever finishes 1-2 will likely be the favorites for the big names.

i'm glad for casey. losing as much as we have can wear on you especially since he came from a team where they were one of the top teams in the conference every season. plus, he gets to spend more time with his family so better work/life balance and at 65 he should be focusing on the more important things in life. it may have been a "mutual decision" between him and the team but hopefully it works out for the best for all involved.

as for the new coach, it doesn't matter to me whether they're a first-time coach or someone like udoka. i just hope they're good at managing personalities because that's the most important thing for an nba head coach right now in the "player enablement" era. it's easy to keep a young player humble but it's different when they make $40 million a year and know that they're a bigger asset to the franchise than the coach is. and we have a bunch of guys due for pay raises soon...

It depends on whether or not any other coaches get let go after the play-in games.... and also depends whether or not the Rockets are really interested in getting someone specific.

There is certainly some benefit in getting a guy(or girl) in earlier because it gives them more time to watch every game from last season.... and then have discussions with Weaver about what they might need to add to the mix for their system. I think the best front offices have some cohesion between coaching and GM and it's important to go into the draft and FA on the same page.

Pursue Ty Lue if the Clippers flame out.
