Pistons coaching odds and general discussion
There are odds out for our next coach. Houston's, as well, is right underneath.

Charles Lee is the current favorite at +300, followed by Atkinson at +400.

So in other words nobody really has any idea who our coach will be.
Never been a gambler on sports or anything else. But betting on sports things outside of games feels bizarre to me. Especially on something like this where info is practically non-existent. At least with most sports betting there can be some basis for a bet. This is basically a roulette table given current info.
Or maybe even worse. At least at a roulette table you know the number has a chance of being the one. Here it totally could be someone not even currently being bet on.

I don't think even Weaver have an idea who will be our next coach, and that's not a knock on him, that's good.
It's good to see Stack and Udoka having high odds, sucks to see Becky so low, even tho, that doesn't mean anything.

Re: Pistons coaching odds
Atkinson probably wait out Kerr in Golden State, who is always toying with retirement because of his back issue. Have to imagine he bails when he feels the Curry, Klay, Green run is over. Atkinson takes over Wiggins, Moody and Kuminga era.
I think for the same reason I think Chris Quinn stays in Miami, I can see Spo retiring sooner than later there. Spo has been head coach there for fifteen seasons afterall.
Would Brooks seem too lazy a choice? I think Nurse will leave Toronto and land in Houston. Udoka to Toronto. I wonder if Casey's front office presence will scare off candidates. Griffin has too much of an assistant coach for life vibe given his vagabond assistant coach stops.
I'm not sure I want to be the team to give Stack his first HC gig, I feel this team might need a retread of sorts to steer the rise.
Atkinson would be my choice off this list.

Atkinson had those young guards playing great under him in Brooklyn. He'd be a nice fit.

Fwiw, James Edwards speculated that the Pistons want to hire a young black coach which I don't agree with and will leave at that so cross Atkinson/Wright etc. off the list.

If the lottery doesn't favor us, I could see Cam Whitmore and his coach coming to Detroit.

Whitmore didn't play for Jay Wright. This was his freshman year.

Re: Pistons coaching odds
I think we will hire a black coach, unless Kerr or Popovich or another great wants the job. It’s just more likely I think. I’m fine with Udoka, he made a mistake, he should be given another chance.

The thing with Udoka is we don't really know many details at all. It's all been kept pretty quiet. He'd be the easy choice (if he wants to come here) as long as the whole thing wasn't more than him just sleeping with an owner's wife. If it's more, such as a bunch of employees or other inappropriate things, etc.... no part of me wants to hire him now and then feel the pressure to let him go later because he was sexually aggressive with young staffers or something.... so its like as long as it was just the one person and not a bigger issue, he should be the guy who we go after IMO.

I'll bet it's Charles Lee.

I’d say the odds are 100% that the Pistons will have a coach. I tried to put money down on that action but there were no takers.

If you don’t know the details of the Udoka situation you haven’t been paying attention. He had a consensual relationship with a fellow employee which was a violation of organizational rules and his contract so he was let go. The reason you’re not hearing any more than that is because there isn’t any more than that.
And if the Pistons have similar rules and feel he’s the best candidate they should hire him and say “Everyone makes mistakes. Don’t let it happen again or you’re going to blackball yourself as a guy who takes a job, says he understands the rules, and doesn’t abide by them.” Easy.

Then it's leaning toward Charles Lee, no? He fits that profile of an up and coming young black coach that's played all over the world and been on that assistant coaching ladder for years

He had sexual relationships with at least two married women in the Celtics organization.

Re: Pistons coaching odds
if we're going with someone who hasn't been a head coach before then there probably isn't a better candidate than charles lee. he's not just an assistant coach, he's been the associate head coach for the team with the most wins the past four years (since he went there). the bucks were still a top team before he joined them but it says a lot that he's the associate head coach.
he's likely already the best candidate so if you believe the report that the pistons want a black head coach then he's the perfect candidate.

i get the initial curiosity of the public wanting to know who he was involved with but i think that was more like the "equipment manager" or the "accounting intern".
it's kind of messed up that people continued to dig into the situation and fully put into public the woman's name and posted FAMILY PICS with the kids. i get they're trying to bury udoka further but that's a huge violation of the family's privacy.

Re: Pistons coaching odds
I'd be fine with either Lee or Udoka who seem to be the frontrunners in most insider reports, including Shams earlier today.
Obviously there's a little baggage that comes with Udoka and you can make arguments about whether that should affect him getting another HC job, but if the extramarital affairs were consensual (and there's no reports to suggest otherwise) and he seems contrite then I don't think it should be an absolute contraindication.
