2023 Off-Season Cap Space Team Challenge: Spend ALL Your Cap Space

Post#1 » by NYG » Wed Apr 12, 2023 12:57 am

This is a project I'm working on for cap space teams, just because I'm interested.

Here is your off-season projected cap space...
Projected NBA Salary Cap: $134,000,000

Bojan Bogdanovic $20,000,000
Marvin Bagley III $12,500,000
James Wiseman $12,119,440
Cade Cunningham $11,055,360
Alec Burks $10,489,600
Jaden Ivey $7,614,480
Killian Hayes $7,413,955
Isaiah Stewart $5,266,713

Josh Hart $45 million over 3 years

Defends, shoots the 3 ball well... will help spread the floor and cover up some other defensive shortcomings. Our GM said we need someone who can defend and shoot the 3 ball.

Josh Hart is re-signed already. What about splitting the cap space between Josh Richardson and Jalen McDaniels?

The Pistons also have pick #31 so it's unlikely they add two FAs IMO plus comments from Weaver made it sound like they want to go out and get a starting level player in FA... so its likely going to be someone you are saying already resigned. Perhaps Jerami Grant coming back or someone like a Josh Hart or Grant Williams.

Since it states #1 overall that means we got Wemby so:

Duren, Wiseman, Bagley
Wemby, Stewart
Bojan, Eugene, Livers
Ivey, Burks, RJ
Cade, Hayes

Split the $22+ mil however you like so I get Pat Bev & McDaniels

That said #31 would have to go since we'd have 16 dudes.

Duren - Wiseman
Wemby - Stewart
McDaniels - Bojan
Ivey - Burks
Cade - Bev

Bagley & Hayes on the trading block

Bojan cast much better in a 6th Man role, team D should be much improved

Deep bench of Livers, Eugene & RJ - see if any of these dudes can break out

I think it's more likely you keep 31 and consolidate here with Hayes and Bagley in some kind of 2 - for - 1 deal.

Bagley, Hayes and 31 for Duncan Robinson and 18?

I'd guess I'd split money between torey Craig and josh Richardson or just go with Kelly oubre and cory/Beverly. Slim pickings in that lot. Lol

How many years left on Robinson's contract now?

And would Miami give 18 to dump him?

Two more seasons at full guarantee, 3rd season is guaranteed for a little less than $10 million.

Not sure, but I feel like we’re overpaying for 18 in that trade

at least 2 more years at $18-19M (third year left has $10M guaranteed). considering he wasn't in the regular rotation and only shot 33% from 3 i'd say they'd give up 18, future picks and robinson for like a 2045 second round pick.

That's a no on Robinson then cause too big of a cap hit.

Duren - Wiseman
Wemby - Stewart - Eugene
McDaniels - Bojan - Livers
Ivey - Burks - RJ
Cade - Bev

#31 likely is a guard

Assuming I couldnt consolidate Bagley & Hayes before training camp ends RJ or Eugene gets cut.

I'd actually prefer a vet big and a vet combo guard in a trade but who knows what will be available come September

Hard pass on Robinson. Not seeing anything worth spending big money on in that free agency field. I'd probably try to fill it out with cheap vets with 1 year and then second year team option contracts to keep the money clean for next offseason. Bringing back Haimi would be a priority in that for me. I wouldn't mind Seth Curry either, as we can always use more shooting.

No, we need actual NBA players. And more important han anything, we need guys that can defend. I dislike both Bagley and Hayes with passion, and they're much better than Duncan Robinson. #18 is irrelevant we don't need any more bad prospects, we have plenty of those.

#31 + Killian Hayes for Royce O'Neale. Add future seconds if needed but I don't think more value is needed in this trade.

#1 draft Wembanyama

Jalen Duren / James Wiseman / Marvin Bagley
Victor Wemby / Isaiah Stewart / Eugene Omoruyi
Royce O'Neale / Bojan Bogdanovic/ Isaiah Livers
Bruce Brown / Alec Burks / RJ Hampton
Cade Cunningham / Jaden Ivey

If we land #2 draft Scoot, sign Grant Williams or Cameron Johnson

If we land #3 just cry and wait for a reboot under a new GM.

I could support a Brown return. Believe I pointed out at the time we moved him that he was a good corner 3 guy.

Since leaving here he's shown he's developed all round. Versatile defender that can shoot, cut and playmake.

Qyestions are: how many years and what's the price?

Duren, Wiseman, Bagley
FA/Rookie, Stewart
FA/Rookie, Bojan, Livers
Ivey, Burks
Cade, Hayes

Assuming we land Wemby, sign McDaniels and Brown that makes for a interesting rotation:

That also would allow for some interesting big and small line ups:

Big: Duren, Wemby, McDaniels, Bojan, Cade

Small: Wemby, McDaniels, Cade, Brown, Ivey

Good coaches are using guys like Brown or Bey as screen setters. Bey is setting a ton of screens for Trae Young in Atlanta and he's getting more open looks there for sure... Brown setting screens a ton in Brooklyn as well for KG and Kyrie and now in Denver as well.

Old school coaches have only bigs set screens. I feel like Brown could work well out in the perimeter with Ivey or Cade. He is for sure someone we should consider..... and I think Brown and KCP are a major reason why Denver went from the 6th seed to the 1st seed out West... especially because Jokic knows how to play to their strengths.

Return to Detroit Pistons
