It's certainly interesting that one of the main things they are looking for is a younger coach. They may have felt like Casey at 66 years of age was someone who the game passed by a bit especially the past few years.

Toronto had already paired him with a smart, young analytics guy in Nurse.

I'm betting we hire someone who is 45 or younger this time around.

Damn. I thought this thread was that the team had hired a new coach.

A new coach is certainly going to have a different offense then the simplistic one that Casey has run for years, no doubt about that.

I'm still betting on the hire being Lee, as he seems to fit the bill, but Weaver likes to "outta left feild" us all the damn time, so who the hell knows.

Which is why I don't understand why some on this forum are pushing for Laimbeer who is already 65!

Agree though, I think it's going to be a younger guy who will relate to our youthful developing team.

I just want to avoid another rookie coach. If I have to go thorough another season of a coach Q guy, I’ll stop watching basketball period. I’d like a guy with a proven track record to help our young guys with work ethic and defense.

Aww, c'mon. You don't long for the winning days of John Kuester? :) I still think Michael "Binary Man" Curry was worse.

You're out of luck. Weaver appears to be avoiding candidates with head coaching experience. On the current interview list, only Kevin Ollie has any.

I understand the apprehension to a rookie head coach, but do people really want retreads?

That list is Udoka, and Atkinson basically, unless you delve into the Marc Jacksons of the NBA, which ill pass on.

I am on the fence personally about the next coach, and as the old saying goes;

"The devil you know..."

The idea that anyone with experience is a retread is absurd.

A retread is a life-long coach who has never accomplished anything of note, but somehow keeps getting hired after getting fired.

Udoka coached one year, and made the Finals. That's not a retread.

Atkinson coached one stint, and by all accounts, markedly improved a bottom-feeding team before resigning. That's not a retread.

Mike Brown has done really well with Phoenix. It does feel like sometimes you need to fail, and then get a 2nd chance.

Okay, so who's your pick?

Let's say you've got that job, making lets say 1.5million a year, and all the perks that go with it. Your next pick as coach has a real chance of extending your run as GM, but also comes with huge expectations, and could end up getting you fired, rather quickly.

I'm trying to look at it like that, as self-preservation is always top priority for any person. Weaver knows this next pick is going to be huge for him personally. Does he go with a rookie coach, like Lee, while having years of being a assistant coach, with championship level coaches, but never had the seat themselves, or go with a coach that has a known track record, but may never had any huge success, or is embroiled in controversy?

Its not like there is a slam dunk coach floating around out there. Tyrone Lou, Steve Kerr, e.t.c.

I'm personally on board with picking a new hire. Someone who's been an assistant, and is looking for that break. Even the best head coaches have to start somewhere, why not start with a super young team, loaded with talent? Under 50 for sure, even under 40.

Could end up with the next Phil Jackson, who knows. I am fully on board with Charles Lee, myself.

Whos your pick, and who's your second chance guy? (Mine is Atkinson)
