Here are the highlights from last night's big game against the Giannis-less Bucks.

To me this is kinda what I hope Cade can aspire to. Defense, some passing, good shots around the basket. He is not blowing past guys for dunks - he is methodical, uses good footwork, shoots 3s when open.

Is there a better comparison for what we all hope Cade can become?

Two of them are Grant Hill and Luka -

I mean we can say Cade is the next coming of Jordan, without the shooting, elite speed and athleticism, etc, without the insane drive to be #1. Without all those things - its not a comparison, its a prayer.

Cade doesnt have Grant Hill's post injury athleticism - early Grant Hill? Luka is a giant and shoots 3s all day over people - Cade was shooting what, 20-30% on 3s.

Batum is 6'8" without shoes and has a 7'1" wingspan. He was a guy that could play defense on Paul George/KD type of guy.

Cade is a dwarf compared to those legit SF/PF wing type players.

I mean we might as say compare Cade to KD and say, yeah, they both shoot a lot.

I'm looking for actual comps for what Cade could be - slow, methodical, high bbiq, good passing, average 3 point shooters that are stars.

i've actually never considered it but jimmy butler would actually be a great comp for cade's potential. butler doesn't usually dominate games from start to finish but whenever he needs to, he takes over and pretty much no one can stop him. cade showed flashes of that in his rookie year. butler doesn't dominate with his athleticism, he has a tiny wingspan, etc. he just gets to his spots because he's smart, methodical and skilled, like cade.

i'd say cade has more of a "run the offense" mentality whereas butler is more score-first but i like the comp.

If Cade were to end up no better than prime Jalen Rose, it will have been a disappointing career.

Paul Pierce. That comp has been there from the beginning. But Cade has work to do.

Cade doesn't have that dog in him to be Jimmy Butler. I would love for Cade to be a teammate of Butler or a Butler like mentality veteran rather than the keys being handed to Cade to drive the franchise.

So by this time next year if the franchise lands VW, I can expect Chris Bosh comps?

I mean cade isn't close to wembanyama as a prospect all 1st overall picks ain't created equal.

But imo wembanyama is like a bigger Anthony Davis that's a bona-fide Superstar

I did not see much of Brandon Roy. I can't say much about his game.

When I think of Joe Johnson I think of late Atlanta and not when he was younger or on the Suns. Cade also doesnt seem like the shooter that Joe Johnson was.

Cade seems like he can bully guys some, body up, use footwork well and then either get a shot off or shuffle around people. He can cross over and end up with an open shot near the free throw line, but he doesnt have the speed to then rush the rim for a layup.

Cade is going to have to show a bunch of skills we havent seen or dig super deep to become a complete dog on the court every minute hes out there if he wants to be a top player - because the comps arent flattering.

ahem - two years. And yes, I expect by the end of year two, VW is going to have people talking about Hakeem and Durant.

I mean I think it's more likely he improves as a 3pt shooter then become absolutely elite around the rim and live at the line like Butler.

I remember joe being a ground bound but crafty big guard with a deep bag and nice handle like Cade is.

I'm beginning to think the Pistons might want to consider cutting Cade - every time I read this board it sounds like he's lucky to even be in the league.

Compared to multiple times Allstars Joe Johnson, Brandon Roy, Paul Pierce, Penny Hardaway, Jimmy butler, grant Hill. But the board is saying he shouldn't be in the league.

Magic Johnson lite? Not super athletic but makes everyone around him better?

Not like Jimmy Butler at all. Jimmy Butler has a fight to him that Cade doesn't have... or at least we haven't seen yet.... perhaps it comes with time.

I think the Brandon Roy comparison is fairly apt, although Cade as a better playmaker with more of the offense running through him. Roy was turning into a beast before he suffered his career ending injuries and probably would be in the conversation for a top 5-10 SG of all time if he played a healthy career.

I don't see the similarity to Butler stylistically. Butler is like a bull in a china shop who just gets buckets, Cade is more of a facilitator who can score, court general. Butler can playmake and Cade can score but Butler is more of a score first mentality while Cade is more of a get others involved mentality.

One thing Butler has which I wish Cade had more of is that dawg mentality. My two biggest concerns with Cade is durability (I'm extremely concerned about this) and does he have that killer instinct that the greats do? This I'm less concerned about because he could still be a very good player without it but not a #1 option on a contending team.

I'll keep saying this until he does but Cade needs to stay healthy. Nagging injuries sidetracked the first half of his rookie season and this season was a complete write off. If he sustains any sort of significant injury next season then I'm afraid that he might be trending towards bust territory.
