My off-season

Post#1 » by FloridaMan78 » Mon May 29, 2023 10:57 pm

If I was GM this is what I’d do.

Draft Cam Whitmore at 5.

Draft Brandin Podziemski or Ben Sheppard at 31.

Sign Grant Williams 4yr 70mil.
Celtics offered 4yrs 50 mil, don’t think they match much more.

I’d love to get Cam Johnson but I think Brooklyn matches anything under 30 mil. Anymore than that would be risky with his injury history. PJ Washington just isn’t a good enough perimeter defender IMO. Williams would allow us to still have cap flexibility and at worst good stop gap.

Podziemski or Sheppard both can replace Hayes or Burks. Solid defensively and knock down 3 point shooters with some natural playmaking ability with good size. Both great off ball to play with Cade or Ivey.

Bagley, Hayes, Burkes should be traded sometime throughout next season.

Cade (23) Ivey (10) Hayes (15)
Ivey (23) Cade (10) Podziemski (15)
Bojan (28) Cam (20)
Williams (28) Stewart (20)
Duren (28) Wiseman (20)

Another shot at the lottery next year. I think they improve by around 10 wins.

Given the 2nd apron Williams is probably the more realistic target.

You don't have Burks in your rotation - does that mean you didn't pick up his option?

I’m hoping our 31st pick plays well enough early in the season to trade or just sit Burks or Hayes. If not we’ll probably keep both.

I never liked Casey’s rotations and hope our next coach will play tighter rotations. 9 men with an alternate 10th man.

Lol

Unfortunately it'll keep going until he signs somewhere since the new CBA and Boston's salary structure makes him the most realistic free agent target.

I'm not somebody who's scared to trade #5 for OG, but something around #5 and Bojan for OG.

I would rather not use Bojan in that scenario because my 2nd trade would be Bojan and try to attach Bagley for John Collins. They've been trying to get rid of Collins for a bit, I know they'd take Bojan but the price to pay for the bailout would be Bagley.

I like the prospects of an athletic lineup of Cade, Ivey, OG, Collins and Duren defensively.

Looks solid. Would prefer Johnson for sure, but that will certainly be less likely and more expensive if we can pull it off.

Our 2nd rounder will be interesting - guys like Whitehead and Howard might slip, good value at #31.

I also think we can sign a vet backup PG. Hopefully Hayes has been shooting 1000 3s every day this offseason (and he improves). Otherwise, time to move on.

Bogdonovich, Burks, Bagley and Hayes are certainly trade fodder this year.

Hayes should not be getting any more minutes for us. In that situation Burks would be playing not Hayes. Other than that it's realistic and fine.

We would win 20 something games tho. But it is what it is, we are not drafting a top 2 player from this draft so nothing much we can do right now.

It would be great to get OG but we can’t expect a wink-wink deal. He needs to be extended before we give up any assets. Or wait and sign him as a FA.

Yea adding a vet backup PG would be a good idea especially if they’re serious about winning more. Javon Carter would be awesome, but I’m guessing we’d have to overpay for him to come here.

Howard and Whitehead would be great value and very possibly could drop.

I also like Kobe Brown, Prosper and Lewis there.

I wouldn't expect him to extend prior since I'm pretty sure he stands to potentially make more money as a free agent. At the same time, I'd feel pretty good about being able to sign him just for the "money and shots" element we'd be able to offer that he may not necessarily have in Toronto.

No way I'm paying Williams a role player 70 mil when I have his clone Livers on the roster

My perfect offseason has the Pistons using their picks in a trade, to land a starting SF that plays defense, and can hit a three.

Herb Jones, OG. Either one will work, although more complications getting OG as he needs to be signed to an extension.

I also want one of the three bigs;

Stewart
Wiseman
Bagley

Gone in a trade as well. I firmly believe the Pistons have more then enough talent to start competing, IF they land a defensive wing.

Cade
Ivey
OG/Herb
Wiseman/Stewart/Bagley
Duren

The three in the Backcourt will provide enough offense. If you need more, captain fence post (Bojan)can be traded for a decent PF somewhere for a desperate team that thinks its on the cusp.

I believe Cade will have, or come damn close to an all-nba season next year, and its time to start building this team out, and stop acquiring assets.

Don’t know much about McDaniels.

Even on the chance that Bruce Brown just looks good because he plays for a better team, I would still try to make him my priority free agent.

I was largely indifferent at the time, but that was still such a pointless move to make. We didn’t really get anything for him, and I don’t think we got a better return because we included him. We weren’t exactly stocked with talent and he wasn’t getting paid much.

Cunningham/Hayes/P Beverly
Ivey/ Burke/ Jordan Hawkins
Boijanovich/ Grady Dick/ Livers
Duran/Stewart/Trayce Jackson Davis
Wiseman/Bagley/Cousins

Weaver Turns 5 and space into like idk 8 & 10.
Hawkins and Grady Dick are both great moving without the ball, three point shooting, free throw shooting, and defensive rebounding for their position. All qualities of shooters that make it in the league. Movement, Shooting, Depth, and flat out raw competition for minutes. Besides Cade and Ivey everyone is fighting to get on the floor most trying to prove there worth or their next contract. It seems like the best recipe to move this current group up another level.

Can't see a competitor like Beverly who can still ball coming here to a last place team to get buried deep on the bench. Not sure Duran and Wiseman starting together works. Not sure Cousins is still in the league or why we would want another big man.

Return to Detroit Pistons
