Bro made first team all-rookie nba. I wanted the Pistons to draft him over Ivey. It's still early but I wouldn't be shocked if he's the better player in the long run

Doesn't seem like anything to beat yourself up about. I dont think he looks like anything special.

I'm not sure why Bennedict needed his own thread on our board but...
- Math had about 2 and a half good months of basketball before the league adjusted, then his scoring became inconsistent and his percentages dropped.
- For someone touted as a knockdown 3 point shooter, he shot worse (32%) from 3 than Jaden (34%) did and Jaden shot better on more (!) attempts per game (4.7-4.0).
- Ivey is much more versatile, if Math isn't scoring in bunches, he's not really helping you much.
- Roles matter! Benn got to play off of a playmaking all-star that averaged 10 assists a game in a 4-out basketball scheme, while Ivey was forced into a lead ballhandler role in a "sink or swim" situation with our clusterf*** offense once Cade went down.
- Jaden got robbed and should have been first team all-rookie, he got punished because of our bad record.
Relax, the grass is not always greener, we drafted the right guy.

mathurin started strong, but kinda faded. By that point, the narrative was already set for the rookie team voting.
Ivey started kinda slow, but put up much better numbers after the all star break.

Curious why Ivey didn't make all-rookie 1st team

Its not curious. This happens just about every year. Someone starts hot and they get all the buzz early. The voters aren't really watching every game of every rookie. It happened to cade too. He was fantastic after the all star break, but the die had been cast already for roy voting.
Mathurin started the season dropping 20ppg and shooting 43% from deep. He was in all the headlines. By march he was down to 13 ppg on 29% from 3. By march, ivey was up to 18/7 and 35%

No regrets on getting Ivey. I thought Kings would get him and I was hoping we’d get Mathurin. He looked bad ass in college. Turns out he’s going to be a good pro. But Ivey is going to be an AllStar someday. No regrets.

I am still mad at hayes over halliburton. And yes i was wanting that at that draft time, not hindsite.

With the way he looked the last two months of the year. I would say the Pistons made the right decision!

Ivey is better than mathurin I'm good on him. No playmaking or defense if he ain't scoring he's useless

What you said doesn’t make sense because Mathurin barely has any assists in his average which means he’s limited in playmaking ability which immediately places Ivey as the better player.
This is a bad take.

Yes, but Haliburton's potential contributions in his rookie season compared to Hayes' might have meant Detroit not being in position to draft Cade #1 overall in the next draft.

I had no idea these numbers were the case. All that early season hoopla and he kinda became a dud.

I wanted Mathurin over Ivey before the draft. Both have done well, but Ivey's play surpassed Math's during the season and I'm happy that it appears I was wrong.

You really can't look at both players in a vacuum. It's more how they pair with Cade. Ivey looked really, really good the last 20 or so games of the season, mirroring Cades end to his rookie season.
None of us know how Ivey will pair with Cade, which is why I wanted Mathurin before th draft, as he plays off the ball, while Ivey plays with the ball.
Ivey is the better talent, but fit is crucial, so im hoping it works out.

Didn't realise Mathurin's numbers fell away that much. Maybe he hit the wall or maybe teams started to figure him out but you'd think playing with Haliburton and Turner would have given him a easier path than the one Ivey had to travel.

Being able to play on and off the ball needs to be seen as a bonus in favor of Ivey. Cade doesn't need to be the sole creator on this team.
