Utah rumored to want Whitmore

I’m actually resigned to us picking at 5 and getting Whitmore. We can teach him how to actually pass and see the court more. And we need a starting 3 in the worst way. But….

Rumor has it Utah wants to trade up and get him. They have 3 first rounders this year. Do we make a deal w them? If so, what do you think it should look like?

#5 for #9, #16, #28?
With 9 we could still get Walker, Hendricks or Coulibaly. Or should we ask for one of their lightly protected future FRPs as well?

My worry is they make that trade with someone ahead of the pistons. I think picks 2-4 are all getting moved

Even if 2 and 3 get moved, it will be Miller and Scoot.

4 should be Amen or Whitmore.

Not sure if they all get moved but pretty sure at least one trade of those will happen.

So if another team is dying for Whitmore or Amen, one of those will drop to us and give us a trade opportunity.

No thanks. We don't need 4 more rookies on the roster this year. Also, we are still looking for core pieces, not some complimentary guys at the end of the first round.

I’d say no because I think Whitmore, Walker, and Hendricks are all gone by 9. I like Coulibaly, but he’s so raw it’s gonna take 3-4 years to develop and I’m getting impatient lol.

Agree! adding 3 more rookie contracts doesn't help this team! Stay at 5 and take Whit then sign veterans to help you win games

I'd be OK with trading down as my guy I'd want is GG jackson but they can keep #28 and give us something else.

So let's say we made the trade. We now have 9, 16, 28, and 31.
9 = Hendricks (fingers crossed)
16 = Bufkin or Cason Wallace (we do need a solid 3rd guard)
28 and 31 can be combined in a trade for a player, better pick this year, or future pick. Also, Dariq Whitehead is a late sleeper. He could have been top 10 before he got injured and messed up his season. Pick him and we could be patient.

So that's 3 new players in positions of need without ruining our cap space. Looks good to me if we can get Hendricks at 9.

Cade/Hayes/Wallace
Ivey/Burks/???
Cam Johnson/Bogdonovich/Livers/Whitehead
#5Hendrix/Stewart/???
Duren/Wiseman/Bagley

SF can still be filled w a hard offer for Cam Johnson. That’s a good, deep young core. Maybe playoff/playin this year, but just going to get better.

GG would be a great use of #28. As would Whitehead.

Im 100% doing that deal! We can take Kendricks, Walker or one of the thompson twins at 9. Jordan hawkins or cason wallace at 16. emoni at 28. Id be happier with taking 3 swings at a good player than banking on Whitmore. But i also think Whitmore is Stanley Johnson 2.0 lol

If Utah offers 9,16+28 for 5, you take that deal and run. Who cares about 3 rookie contracts, this gives the Pistons a lot more flexibility and they likely get a similar level prospect at 9. In terms of value, it's a no brainer IMO. Utah would really have to like Whitmore to do it.

Grady Dick at 9 GG Jackson at 16 I'd be cool with that. Maybe trade up with 31&28 to get one of Brice Sensabaugh, Jett Howard, Jordan Hawkins. In the end we come away with 2 elite shooters that can contribute now and a high ceiling 18yr true 6'8 guy with ball skills.

No interest in adding 28. I’d rather a future first then a pick that late

If hendricks falls to 9 and they dont want too many rookies on the roster next yr they could trade the other picks for future picks or draft some stash in Europe guys.. either way theres value in this trade

Whitmore has small hands and normal wingspan - I don't think he's a Weaver type.
But if Utah wants him, I'd trade #5 and #31 for #9, #16 and a future lotto protected FRP. No interested in four rookies this year.

Yeah, I know we have a lot of youngsters. 5 for 9, 16, and change feels like good value though.

And unfortunately I do think that's still the stage we're at.

Why do some fans act like this is the NFL? Trading a top 5 pick for later picks in the 1st doesn't automatically spell victory. Did we not just have 7, 16 and 19 three years ago? And people complain(ed) incessantly about all three players because they're just, guys, ffs.

True but some of us think the 3rd tier of the draft is rather large so the quality of player doesn't change much from 5 to 9. So picking up an extra pick in the teens would be nice. If you think otherwise that's fine but I honestly don't.

We did it last draft with Duren.
