No he’s giving those away. Beef Stew bought that Maybach to drive him to this thing

I have a lot of respect for Monty for saying the money was a big reason why he accepted the job.

I remember Steve nash once saying yeah he accepted the offer (I think to play for LA?) because of the money and there shouldn’t be any shame in that.

If the average person would be concerned over their salary and take a higher paying job why wouldn’t athletes or coaches?

Another important thing from this press conference is, we don't know **** about what's going on. It took this long for Monty to accept the offer because his wife have breast cancer.

Hopefully he isn’t just getting the $ and not caring about outcome. Pretty sure Steve nash sucked in la. Time will tell

Yes, true. But Weaver also admitted that they needed a referee between he and Gores for 5 days. And that it was Gores determination that made this happen. Those are things we did presume.

I know this is all about Monty, but the way Troy speaks fills me with absolutely no confidence. He sounds like a grown-up version of the wheelchair kid out of Malcolm in the Middle.

How the hell did he win over Tom Gores in his interview/s?

Suns fan here I'll say while it's certainly no guarantee that this works out I really don't see Monty as a guy who would ever just mail it in.

Great human. He demands dedication and attention to detail from his players. One thing I'd say is for his system to be successful he needs guys to buy in and if they don't they should be sent packing. I don't think Montys style is for everyone.

I don’t see him packing it in either, but I could see if the players aren’t accepting the coaching maybe saying **** it, I doubt that happens either, just never say never. I know gores is is wanting to win, well at least that’s the feeling I get and it’s understandable, just not sure about realistic. Cade getting hurt sucked, basically a lost year. So hopefully we get some good chemistry going this year with cade Ivey and duren, whoever they draft also that would be awesome.

Style wise he's a bit of a baptist preacher mixed with Ted Lasso :). Some guys really respond to him and I think others kind of roll their eyes.

On offense he runs a .5 system, meaning when a player gets the ball they need to shoot, drive, or pass within a half second. He ran a ton of 'spain P&R' in Phoenix but most of the league does that too. My complaint was he couldn't ever seem to get the suns to shoot enough 3s but that was probably personel more than Monty's philosophy.

On D hell mix things up but drop more than blitz. He demands guys are displined and if you **** up rotations you'll just not play.

I get the feeling Weaver has one more year and this offseason and trade deadline he is under pressure to be replaced. I don’t mind that at all to be honest. I think Weaver has done a wonderful job drafting players and getting the right front office together even though Monty is more Gores doing. I think Gores knew he needed Monty there knowing Weaver might get let go. I really think if Weaver can’t be creative enough this summer to get the veteran needed for our team, I’m afraid of what he’ll do at the trade deadline just to save his job. At the same time that sort of aggression is needed the way he got Duren.

Having said all of that, I’m looking at Ujiri likely staying with Raptors one more season. If he becomes available, that’s a guys I don’t mind replacing Weaver to be our general manager. I’m also looking at Scott Perry who was also a good reason the Pistons were contenders 20 years ago next to Dumars. After that I’d be keeping a close eye on the Bucks front office situation because they also have Dumars right hand man working there. These are all potential replacements for Weaver if he doesn’t get the job done this summer and trade deadline. It’s unfortunate Cade got hurt cuz it really delayed our team’s improvement and the NBA cursed us dropping to the fifth pick. It’s up to Weaver now to draft best available or trade down to maybe grab a few assets for a potential big trade by the deadline. The options are wide open for Weaver. I do believe sucking for 4-5 years we needed as many assets as possible drafting in the Lottery for this long and sometimes this is what it takes. Only way is up sure but I’m afraid more injuries and development derailment could spell an end to Weaver’s tenure with the Pistons.

That’s what I basically got out of the conference to be honest. It looks like there’s plenty of strong coaching staff, roster, that can be held down beyond Weaver. So thank you Weaver for all you’ve done but this is it man. It’s your last year and I have to believe that we’ll be better next season. Otherwise you just can’t keep doing the same thing and expecting different results.

I’ve always said Weaver is Sam Hinkie since he got here. But this summer and next trade deadline he can prove he’s more capable of putting a team together beyond the draft. He’s signed Jerami Grant before, I think he needs to make that kind of splash again this summer and if I’m Gores I’d open up my wallet for a win now move like signing Jerami Grant. Otherwise, Weaver needs to get creative and guy like Kawhi or Blake isn’t the answer this time around. We need 2-3 more trades like Bogan and Burke if he can’t sign anyone great and unfortunately that talent is just not available in free agency this year. I think it’ll definitely be available in trade talks.

Agreed, that really stood out to me. Love a coach that tells it the way it is and in this case, not the usual BS that it wasn't about the money. I'm sure he does like the young talent as well but the honesty about the money was refreshing.

Weaver ain't going no where! Especially Cocaine Gores not really knowing him personally. Weaver will be a middle man.
