Ausar Thompson cancels Pacers workout

Post#1 » by mercury » Thu Jun 15, 2023 8:42 pm

Per the Indy Star he's opted out of the Pacers commitment. On the surface it would appear that he has an offer from #4 to #6.
Any top 6 team not in play for a draft deal would be making this promise.
Which team needs him most?

With the Magic having #6 and #11.... I wondered if they would end up trying to grab both twins. I wonder if Ausar has been promised to be picked at #11 with Amen promised to be being picked at #6.

If not, I'd imagine Ausar still got the promise to be picked at #6 by Orlando.... I can't see it being us at #5 I think we're still very open to moving that pick if the right deal comes along I can't see Weaver boxing himself into a prospect at this point.

I wasn’t thinking Ausar in the top 7.

I wouldn't think anything of this. A lot of agent politicking happening right now.

Could be as simple as Indy having way too many 2/3’s. Because they do.

In the Locked On NBA mock draft, the Pistons podder took Ausar as our pick (Wemby, Scoot, Miller, Amen were top four). Pretty much my worst case scenario if the top four go like that.

The promise could be lower than the Pacers' pick.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

Ugh. KU does know some people. I really hope this isn’t true. I hope this isn’t insider info. I’m preparing for the worst.

A mock typically doesn’t include insider info.

Haven't seen a single Mock that has either Thompson at 5.

Amen is usually at 4 or 6 Whitmore is at 4.

We either are mocked with Whitmore or Walker.

Not doing the Pacers workout could mean Washington but could also mean nothing.

These kids are working out so much he could have a niggling injury and wants extra rest or just tired due to the travel.

IF he doesn't reschedule the workout and hasn't already worked out for them prior to this then I might jump to the "promise" option

I won't be disappointed if we go Auser @ 5. There is a lot to like with him.

To be fair it's been minimal news or rumors about us draft wise. I tried to find who we worked out and I only found it was Cam whitmore, GG Jackson,Taylor Hendricks, jarace walker ,Jordan Walsh, and some other 2nd round guys.

You'd imagine the agents for the other guys wouldn't mind having their client "considered" for #5.

I seriously doubt we haven't worked out a whole bunch of other guys and definitely surprised that you couldn't find a longer list

Yeah possibly but just not much news around us either Weaver and co is keeping everything low key or its other plans being made like trades.

If we miss on Miller, I actually wouldn't be upset if we picked Ausar. The dude is 6'7, can play the 3, he's an athlete, plays defense and passes the ball. Sounds like a safe pick at 5 to me.

Ausar could be this year’s sharpe, but I think he’s even greener. He’s gonna have to get a LOT of g-league time, and he’s gonna look very raw at first, definitely a long term play, but he could be a homerun in a few years

Can't shoot or really score in the half court at all he's a huge project pick.

Maybe project, I dont know about huge project. Didnt he average identical numbers to his brother in the little semi pro league they played in? I think Ausar averaged more assists then Amen ironically.
