Marcus Sasser - Welcome to Detroit
Quite happy with this pick as well. A lot of his weaknesses as a point guard are covered by coming to a team with Cade and Ivey (and now Ausar). Real shooting prowess and defensive results. Yes please thank you.
I wouldn't shed any tears if this mean Hayes is on his way out this summer.

Honestly seems like he’s a good fit with Hayes

I was hoping we might sign Jevon Carter.... And Marcus Sasser seems like he can become like Jevon Carter. Good pick.

The more I read about him, the happier I am. I also don’t mind that we moved up to get him.

If he can really defend and shoot it's not bad. Burks and this guy off the bench should be fine. I want to see how many 2nds we're giving up to get him tho, if it's only one (and not a good one), this was a good trade

Hayes will almost certainly be on the roster this year unless he's packaged with another player just to make salary work. No one is going to want him at $7+ million this season. He's maybe a rotation player for us, Washington, or San Antonio but no where else in the league and you can get better players for the vet min.
I'm still hoping he takes a big step forward and turns it around this year, especially if he ends up on a much more talented offensively bench.
Hayes / Burks / Ausar / Stewart / Wiseman..... not sure that's got enough offensive talent to really keep Hayes a distributor and not a guy looking to score too much.
Hayes / Burks / Livers / Bojan / Bagley..... that unit certainly has more offensive firepower but not sure we'd start Ausar and Stew over Bojan.

Pistons will probably trade him some where. Filler in a trade makes sense. I could see to Washington for Gallo and a top 40 protected second.

Hopefully Monty staggers starters rather than running pure bench units.

So we traded to get a 1st round pick, to draft an old player, with skillsets we need so we could send him to the gleague? Is that what you're saying?
Hayes is done.

Re: Marcus Sasser - Welcome to Detroit
I like Sasser a lot, I see him as a Gabe Vincent/FVV type of guard, elite shooting and can really guard on the perimeter, although a bit small
I think he takes Killian's minutes, Sasser is ready to play a role right now

A bit small? 6'1" with a 6'7" wingspan...The Moose wrote:I like Sasser a lot, I see him as a Gabe Vincent/FVV type of guard, elite shooting and can really guard on the perimeter, although a bit small

Lots of 6'1" guards in the league. I doubt all of them have a wingspan like that

Re: Marcus Sasser - Welcome to Detroit
I just don’t think Hayes and Sasser fill the same role. Last season Ivey, Hayes, Cojo, Burks, McGruder, and Hampton all got significant guard minutes.

His wingspan is good, but 6’1 is small by todays standards. Obviously it’s not a complete no-go height, the names I gave are an example of players his size, as well as many others.
It means he’s likely positional locked defensively to 1’s and 2’s, which is fine. But that’s the only reason I mention his size.
As I said, I like Sasser a lot, I had a 1st round grade for him coming todays draft. I watched a lot of him at a Houston because Jarace was my guy this year

For me having watched some vids on him since he was picked:
Offensively he's best served as a catch and shoot kinda guy - space the floor, can attack a close out, has a good floater but sucks at finishing at the rim.
Defensively he's your point of attack defender, guarding 1s or 2s so Cade and Ivey don't have to.
Can he develop other aspects of his game? Of course but he's a ready built 3 & D guard that some here wanted cause Ivey and Cade struggle defensively and Hayes can't shoot.
To be real I had no idea who he was when he was drafted. Now? I'm not disappointed

Re: Marcus Sasser - Welcome to Detroit
He will not necessary take Hayes' minutes as he's more a SG rather than a PG. But with both Cade and Ivey ability to run the point, I can see them reducing Killian's minutes if we choose to keep 1 of those 2 on the court everytime. Sasser and Burks can play with them off the bench as 1st guard off the bench with Hayes coming minutes later.

Would he have been there at #31?
