Detroit, Cleveland, LAL, Philly, Brooklyn, Chicago....7 1/2 years in Detroit and $130 million dollars from us and then never more than one season anywhere else at always at the vet minimum. I would have thought at his age he would have found a home somewhere as a backup center on something like 3 years $15 million but I think he might just end up signing one year vet min deals for the rest of his career at this point.

Also, almost 10,000 career rebounds he'll be joining a select group soon breaking into the top 25 of all time.... Guys like Rodman and Patrick Ewing are only in the 11K range so he'll likely finish ahead of some of the all-time greats even if he's just a 20 MPG backup for a few more seasons.

Players like him just aren't very valuable anymore. It's kind of crazy that in the not THAT distant past he was given 130 million. It ended up being a mistake, but it wasn't seen as an obviously bad deal when it was signed.

The league has changed a lot. Or rather, it was already changing when the contract was signed but not everyone got the memo until part of the way through that deal.

It’s also fair to point out that one of his particularly impressive abilities (crashing the offensive glass) has fallen out of favor to some extent in favor of getting back on D faster.

When he gets a chance to post up he still gets plenty of opportunities for offensive rebounds. Remember the twice per game occurrence would he would get around 3 offensive boards just tipping up his own missed layups?

Oh yeah.

I remember those really inflating his rebound stats.

He led the league in defensive rebounds several times, is tops in defensive rebound rate this year and all-time.
He's an elite rebounder, period.

What limits him is that he's a mental midget. His missed shots were those baby hooks that SVG thought it was a good idea for him to learn. He'd either miss the shot or fork the ball over, like money. He's got all the tools to play some elite defense, but he thinks that involves gambling for steals all the time, when he's thinking and focused at all. He got paid, now he's coasting, not developing his game sensibly... a waste. *deep sigh*

I remember pushing back all the time that the idea was: Dre just needed better and well-suited teammates and he'd shine. Conveniently forgetting that if he truly needs such perfect teammates, then maybe he's not the star they think he is worth building around. The times where members here would contort and go to bat for Dre and Monroe were fun

Good times. Now let the cognitive dissonance on Dre blow away along with any remaining vestiges of his influence here

There is still a spot in an NBA starting lineup for a center who defends and rebounds. Dre has obviously done the rebounding part, but he's never locked in and decided to be a good defender.

Dre is one of the last vestiges of the premium big man era. The "clean the glass, power it home down low" guys just don't hold a lot of value in the current NBA, which emphasizes switching, spacing, and the long ball.

Add to that the fact that everyone is expected to rebound now, especially since the uptick in three-pointers lends itself to rebounds well beyond the key and fast break transitions, and you can see why he's rapidly lost value.

All of that said, Drummond has had a very solid NBA career in my eyes. I am mad at the management decisions that kept him on our roster too long and paid him too much, but not at the man himself. Dre may have been a bit immature when he was here, but he showed up and played and never caused big problems. He was certainly no Cousins or Whiteside-style headache.

It’s clear the guy still has a place in the league- he hasn’t ever been without an NBA job.

That’s nothing to scoff at- 99% of people playing basketball professionally in this world would love to have his career. But it’s a far cry from what was thought after his first coupme of years in the league.

Deeds not words. But, it sounds like a good start.

Y’all are mean about Drummond. He wanted to be here and was an all star. The league just passed him by. Put Drummond in the 90s and 0 is in the rafters.

Drummond intentionally kept teammates off the boards to pad his stats. He pouted when things didn't go his way.

Selfish ineffective players with that attitude are toxic in any era of basketball.
