Did he cook?
Here's "the thread". What's your opinion of Weaver's performance this off-season? What are your overall opinions heading into Year 4 of the Weaver regime?

Re: Did he cook?
My Keyboard GM thoughts.
1. Questionable return to rent our cap. I know they know the deals way before we do but 2027, 2029 2nds. Ehh.
2. Timing of the Harris trade. An hour before Free Agency starts? Were teams lining up to get him?
3. The old saying kick the can down the road. Free Agency isn't what it used to be and Players are taking this life changing money when it's first put in front of them. Having all of this cap space in a less then desirable destination doesn't work. Until our pick conveys to the Knicks/whoever gets it, it's going to be the same thing year after year.

Out of curiosity, if this is pretty much it how would you rate it?

At present: unremarkable, but probably a slight upgrade.
I gave it a 'Meh", but I'm sure there's more to come.

Re: Did he cook?
Harris trade was basically |Weaver talking to BKLN GM and realizing Cam wasn't happening and the BKLN GM said "We have Harris here we'd like to move" and he fit with the Pistons need for shooting and a short contract.
Those seconds are so far off they could be good seconds by then. I mean 2027 Dallas could be in rebuild with Kyrie burning that team down and Doncic demanding out before then. And 2029 Milwaukee will have Giannis long gone in all likelihood.

Re: Did he cook?
Is anyone excited for the Harris trade? The best argument was he didn't turn into Joe Dumars or Stan Van Gundy. Ausar is a reasonable guess given the fifth slot. Sasser and Morris make sense. To go with the cooking analogy, he has the ingredients on the table, but if we're just eating them one a time this is a full-on fail.
So maybe F) He needs to start cooking.

It’s a C (or Meh based on your rating system).
Without having knowledge of better options it’s hard to be angry about it.
I’m happy that there’s no long term commitments and we get to see Ausar and a healthy Cade without being stuck with pieces that might not fit moving forward.
Look at how Dallas has desperately tried to bring talent to support Luka. Flexibility is often underrated.

Re: Did he cook?
Well we have this previous quote from Bojan to look back and reflect on...
I wonder how Bojan is feeling now, and if he might have some regrets about signing that extension. Granted he had to be at least a little naive if he actually bought into that mantra Troy was trying to sell him.
“Having conversations with the club, Troy (Weaver), and the owners, they assured me that we’re going to be great next year,” Bogdanovic told HoopsHype. “We have a lot of cap space to sign great players. We’re going to have a high pick again, so that’s going to help us a lot. We have a great young group of guys. When Cade (Cunningham)went down, that kind of hurt us big time. We were thinking that maybe we’d be fighting for the play-in tournament, but when he went down, he was our main guy. All of our offensive strategies were connected to him. When he went down, our season, we’ve had a lot of ups and downs without him.”

Bojan should have known better but at least he secured additional money on his extension.
He's a valuable trade chip given he's not fully guaranteed for next season

Re: Did he cook?
Absolutely brutal. Both Reaves, and Jones could have been had I think.
My hope lies solely with Cade being who I think he is. If he isn't, the Pistons are going to be just awful.

Re: Did he cook?
He didn't sign FVV to a max
He didn't sign Dillon Brooks to $20mil/year
So there's that

You should know these European players don’t care where they live or who they play for. They care to win yes. Just look at Jokic, I don’t see that guy ever leaving Denver unless it’s a money issue. For the most part European players are much more mature than American players. I do think we got a really mature 2 rookies this season and I think that’s what Weaver is going for that’s been consistent. There’s not a single player on the team that’s immature if you think about it. These guys are all grown adults at an early age.

Re: Did he cook?
I disagree that Europeans are more mature a lot of those guys are always out of shape like luka and jokic. It's just more of American players actually have roots here and live here full time un like Europeans or foreign players in general.Spider156 wrote:thesack12 wrote:Well we have this previous quote from Bojan to look back and reflect on...“Having conversations with the club, Troy (Weaver), and the owners, they assured me that we’re going to be great next year,” Bogdanovic told HoopsHype. “We have a lot of cap space to sign great players. Re: Did he cook?
I’m gonna tell you guys exactly what needs to be said
1. Weaver cooked in the draft that’s 100%. I actually think this is his best draft 2/2 both players are bound to be serious professionals for at least the next 10 years. Who he chose is special because the talent and effort is there from both of these guys. I see much greater potential in this draft over the wiseman killian bey Stewart draft. These kids fit like a glove.
2. Weaver did EXACTLY what I wanted him to do which is EXACTLY the same moves as last offseason. He got who? Burke and Bogan. So what did he get this time? Morris and Harris. We are SET at the perimeter position.
3. I don’t believe he’s done yet. At least I don’t want to believe that he’s done. We need a PF and the most glaring players I’m looking at are Bagley and Killian. Either one of them get traded I’d be ecstatic. The truth is Killian and bagley are negative assets.
My solution to this whole situation is simple.
4. Waive Killian and sign Torrey Craig. Trade for Grant Williams, PJ washington, anybody. I can’t stand having Stewart start at PF next season, it’s a spell for more losing.
Weaver’s plan is pretty simple. He is copying exactly what OKC did. He wanted to draft 3 years in the Top 5 and got exactly the players he wanted out of it. He depleted us of centers for the first 2-3 years and then we got hurt and he tanked hard going for Wenbenyama. He got a great consolation prize out of the tanking. I do believe Ausar is the best or second best wing in his draft. Weaver wanted to surround these players with their own Collison if anyone remembers him. The plan is now to turn it around. How? Well in this league it’s not just what’s in between the lines on the court it’s also off the court. Weaver got 4 new assets this summer in Ausar Sasser Harris and Morris. I mean objectively speaking we only added good players including Cade. Our biggest acquisition this summer is Monty Williams no matter which player we got even Johnson. I believe Weaver is on the right course. The truth is he REALLY wants to see these guys get it on their own and he’s giving them literally as much time as they need to grow into it. It’s a slow rebuilding process but with 4 more assets on the platter, we are SET for a trade this trade deadline. Guys in the likes of Tobias Harris, Hunter, etc can become available. This is when an opportunity comes and you take a chance. Ultimately that’s all what we’re really waiting for. Will Weaver get us another Jerami Grant level player? I do believe we’ll be picking in the Top 10 again this year and we will improve to 27-30 wins, max 35. Monty is that good gentlemen so rest easy. I don’t believe we’ll get a big time player unless it’s Jaylen Brown maybe Randle. I think Weaver has one more move to make and it’ll all make sense. As of now I’m just really happy we got another top 5 rookie with star potential and that’s better than what we had 5 years ago. So it’s slow and it’s progressing. The players and coach are worth it that’s for sure.
