Before the ASG he was a beast in Orlando, I have no idea what happened after the ASG, but he is worth a shot. Worst case scenario he is much better than Bagley.

He, much like Bagley, has a nice offensive skillset but his overall ability to contribute to winning basketball is lacking IMO. Signing him would likely come at the expense of Eugene at this point. Not sure if that's a win as we're trying to establish a new culture it feels like our window for Bol Bol may have passed us by.

What's his cap hit? Cause we probably can't claim him off waivers without the space.

Once he's cleared waivers and is a free agent we could use part of the room exception for him

Yeah, part of my calculus in asking was "cheap flier." Sounds like his BBall IQ was pretty low in Orlando, though, and his outside shot wasn't as good as I thought it was.

He was waived instead of being kept at a measly $2.2m cap hit because he doesn't play defense or pass the ball and he can't shoot it either.

Crazy how big his hype was a few months ago to end up waived and treated like he's completely worthless now

Sounds exactly like the sort of guy Weaver would take a flyer on, but he’s already taken a flyer on 2 other big men.

Plus the failed physical may have burned that bridge- players don’t like it when teams proclaim them to be damaged goods like that, even if it’s true.

If he truly was “way better than Stewart” he wouldn’t have gotten waived at 2.2 million. Stewart drew trade interest, remember.

Orlando dumped Tobias for expirings, they also traded Oladipo and Sabonis for 1 year of Ibaka, they have done stupid stuff in the past.

Bol Bol is not perfect, but he is better than Bagley and have way more upside than him. Stewart is a backup 5, not a 4 and not a starter.

That’s the problem. Bagley is a negative asset and isn’t tradable unless you’re linking him with Bogan or Harris which I think might happen. More likely Killian leaves first before Bagley. Agree it's our worst but a 2 year deal worth approx 12 mil per isn't exactly a "bad" contract.

HIs monthly stats last season are quite interesting:

Points/Rebounds/Blocks format

October: 10.9/6.7/2.4 on 65% FG
November: 14.2/8.3/1.7 on 58%
December: 10.3/6.1/1.1 on 57%
January: 7.1/4.4/1.0 on 51%
February: 5.9/3.8/0.8 on 57%
March: 3.3/4.2/0.6 on 42%
April: 9.7/6.0/1.0 on 31% (small sample size)

His minutes and production really fell off from January onwards and I'm not sure why. Fatigue? Injuries?

Anyway, I feel like we have enough project bigs on the team already without adding another. And Weaver may have burned his Bol Bol bridge with the previously rescinded trade.

Did no team want Bol for a 2nd rounder? Would Bagley have that value at 5x the cost/yr. with 2 years remaining?
Orlando opted to re-sign Mo Wagner and Goga Bitadze instead of picking up Bol's 2.2mil.
Bol lost minutes over the course of the season with Orlando. Bad fit for their offense or defense? Something else?
Checking over at Orlando's forum, their fans aren't heartbroken to see Bol's departure.
Detroit has the right of first refusal with Bol's waiver.

edit: Bol is getting dragged HARD in the Bol topic on the General Board. "Way better than Stewart", eh?

If only we could resolve the self-inflicted Manley Wisebag situation, I'd like to nab Bol Bol. *sigh*

I think expiring contracts are about as valuable as cap space these days (which is to say not very). Everything is trades, usually with the star choosing their location, and the draft.

Fair to point out that both of those bad trades were made by the same GM, a GM who was infamously bad and got fired five years ago.

I certainly wouldn’t consider him better than Stewart. And Orlando may not be the smartest team in the league, but if you’re only making $2M and get waived, you’re not a needle mover. I also don’t think he’s better than Bagley either. Easy pass - we have a full roster, especially w bigs.

I don't want us to willingly acquire more low IQ / selfish basketball players. Hard pass.
