Win totals over/under Pistons 26.5

Post#1 » by bstein14 » Fri Jul 14, 2023 1:59 pm

A few betting places have started popping up 23/24 regular season win totals, and pretty much everyone so far has the Pistons with the 2nd lowest over/under ahead of only Washington this season.

Caeasar's Sportsbook

Wizards 24.5
Pistons 26.5
Hornets 29.5
Spurs 30.5
Rockets 32.5

Bulls, Jazz, Pacers, Raptors, Magic all in the mid 30s for over/under.

So what are your thoughts? Easy over bet? Easy under Bet? Or just about right? I'm thinking we get to 30 wins but a lot of that hinges on Cade who we haven't seen play in forever.

I would really hope easy over. If everyone stays healthy don’t really see how they don’t. I guess a cade/Ivey beef or separation of locker room, but doubt that happens.

Who knows, but I'd bet over. You have to be trying to lose to get down into that 20 win range. And I don't think we're going to start out the year trying to lose again.

The talent is absolutely there, as is the coaching, but a lot of new players, new expectations, is Cade healthy, and a whole new system.

As of right now, I unfortunately take the under. First 20 games are going to be rough as hell. How the team makes it through that, is going to dictate final win totals.

The biggest reason the under is likely.... is because if we're like 22-38 after 60 games we've seen Weaver sit/rest players to keep a high draft pick possible for us. I think if we tried until the end of the season to win every game we hit 30 but the reality is, if we're out of the play-in hunt Weaver might shift gears to the late season tank and one last look at the youth of Wiseman/Hayes before they become FAs. Going 2-20 or 3-19 down the stretch after a 22-38 start is possible if Weaver realizes that we aren't good enough to push for the play-in.

Without Casey, I can't declare Under a mortal lock yet. Will wait and see how the team is schemed during pre-season.

* By the way, draftkings has our number at 27.5

The roster is dysfunctional. We either have not enough shooting, or putrid defense. We'll be luck to reach 26 wins, this is very likely under.

Found a thread last year in August (before Cade’s injury and before the Bojan trade) that had us at 28.5.

The other issue we will run into this year is that other bad teams are improving more than we are- it’s not just about our roster in a vacuum- it’s about the landscape of a league that is broadly becoming more competitive. Teams like the Magic and Pacers should take decent leaps this year. The Spurs should improve. Heck, even the Rockets, though I hate their offseason, should get more wins than last year with more veterans. It’s totally possible we’ve improved in a vacuum but our position in the standings won’t change too much.

I don’t know about the win totals, but I can’t honestly see another team besides Washington that I think will be worse than us assuming all things are equal with injuries (they of course won’t be but we’ve no idea how that will shake out).

I…just made myself sad. Moving on.

I usually go under but im taking the over this year, 30-35 wins.

- adding a elite defending SF in Thompson
- our best player and leader is returning in Cade
- former best 3 point shooter in the league in Harris
-Replaced killian Hayes from the rotation with a good backup in Monte Morris
-All the youth is another year older and wiser
-No more Casey

If the team doesn’t force-feed minutes for development and played the best rotation for winning then I think it’s an easy over. Gifting minutes to bagley, Hayes or wiseman over players that deserve to play more (which unfortunately I think is going to happen) then I’d be more inclined to take the under. It’s frustrating because the vets we have now are all legitimate rotation players while those three aren’t. If I was one of the vets losing minutes to those guys I’d be pissed.

I think we could definitely be a 30 win team in the former scenario.

I’m under the impression that the whole league gets injured.

It depends on health not talent.

If we are healthy, over.

If we are unhealthy, under.

If the East is unhealthy, over.

If the East is healthy, still could be over if we’re healthy.

My projection is 27-30 wins.

Under. 10+ wins is a lot, and we still are heavily reliant on very young players and a poor roster from fit. I expect this team to be bad early and out of the play-in race quick, so even if they have the talent I think they’ll lean into tanking again quicker than other teams.

10 more wins is a big jump, I think Orlando was the best last year at +12. Still I think with if Cade Cunningham is back, and they don't tank the last 30 games they will be over.

Yeah, as others have said, and as I said last year (pre-Cade)… we are very unlikely to win in the mid-high 20’s and make this close.

Either we have real progression, stay healthy, stay on the fringe of the play-in race and compete, in which case 30-35 wins

…or…

We have injury issues, fall apart, trade the vets and tank, in which case 20 wins or so.

I don’t know which is more likely, but 25-30 wins seems very unlikely to me.

Injuries happen often. I expect 27-30 wins even without injuries. Only way to get above 30 wins is Monty Williams and other teams getting wiped out by injuries and deciding to tank the year.

It’s allll about injuries.

Bucks lose Giannis for the year they suddenly become an average team.
Celtics lose Tatum, average team.
Pacers lose Halliburton, bottom feeder.
Bulls lose Lavine, bottom feeder
Magic lose Paolo, bottom feeder
Charlotte lose Lamelo, bottom feeder
Washington is a bottom feeder
Toronto loses Siakam, bottom feeder
76ers losing Embiid, average team at best
Nets are an average team
Miami loses Butler, bottom feeder.

PISTONS LOST CADE, BECAME A BOTTOM FEEDER

That’s how it works. Health is everything and I’m sick and tired of fans assuming it only happens to the Pistons.

Everyone is healthy? 27-30 wins
