Bruce Brown talks about Detroit trading him

Mildly interesting off-season fodder.

(Bruce implies it happened because he called off for two weeks during voluntary workouts while the bubble was going on)

To be fair to management, taking any time off (optional workouts) when you’re trying to establish yourself in a cutthroat business isn’t a good idea.

Still a really stupid trade, though.

Bruce has a team option on his 2nd year, so he's gonna have some pressure again, but Rick Carlisle likes guys like Bruce (and Haliburton). They should make a great backcourt, since Bruce can guard the 1s, and Tyler can shoot and play off the ball.

Team probably didn’t want him in the first place. I don’t think it had anything to do with him wanting time off. Weaver wanted everyone on the roster out.

Weaver wanted to show he was in charge and the teams former ways were not going to be acceptable. Problem is he choose the only guy who fit the correct way. Bad timing and wrong guy to show boat that its weavers way or the highway

Bruce Brown is the embodiment of what Weaver SAYS.
I wish he'd stop bringing guys who can't play defense. It's a waste of our youth. I'll bet more that Killian can contribute ways on both ends than a guy who sucks on defense and is unreliable on offense.

They did the same with Kwame Brown (and I'm sure he's saying the same exact thing, still) ---- anything for clicks.

(Barnes and Jackson are too corporate for Detroit, anyway :)

Kind of funny that the Pistons have actually drafted better in the 2nd round than the 1st round in the last decade, especially considering the odds, and threw away their successful 2nds (Middleton, Dinwiddie and Brown) for nothing.

yeah i think the time off was more coincidental and weaver just wanted to clear house and get "his" guys in. at the time too brown really wasn't a good fit with the roster, defensively he was an asset but offensively he was pretty much useless. there was no realistic role for him with the roster we had then.

Effectively, Brown's replacement was Delon Wright, who we traded for Cojo, and hopes for a Killian (barf).

Yeh his guys and FA signings were great - a revolving door of draft lottery busts Okafor, Dialo, Smith Jnr, Josh Jackson etc etc etc.

At least it's better than another year talking about Christian Wood :)

You mean JOKIC. Put some respect on his name and stop that talk. Jokic is the most talented player in the league right now. I’m a fan of his for sure. I don’t like people disrespecting that man. He’s one of the best to play the game and has got all the stats to show for it. Brown or not he would’ve won. I love basketball so much, Nuggets winning it all meant a lot to me specially sweeping Lebron the way he swept the Pistons. Karma is a *****. I expect another championship to the nuggets. I think they’re a 2-3 year dynasty.

LMAO Amen to that!

But Pete will keep that up regardless of where Wood signs.

It'll be some cheap deal and the topic will be "Why didn't we get him?"

I didn't think I needed a further explanation as to why he was traded.

He wasn't that good and a new administration that didn't have any pride invested in having picked him took over.

But yeah, just about anyone knows that when you're relatively new to most jobs and low on the food chain (which Brown certainly was), "voluntary" stuff isn't really voluntary in a lot of cases. That said, while it may have done a little to sour Weaver on him, I'm still more inclined to believe he was getting moved regardless.

I'm glad he found success alongside Jokic. But people talk about him as though he was a player with Detroit that he simply wasn't. The guy I remember seeing wasn't a player I was particularly sad to see go.

I always forget Middleton was drafted by Detroit. What a mistake letting him go was. I think they got a real one in Thompson this year. And if Cade is healthy they could be interesting to watch.
