We Play Phoenix In a Month. But Ever Notice How....

Post#1 » by MortSahlfan » Fri Sep 8, 2023 2:46 pm

we get the Suns big 4 for the first game, but the Pistons also was the first team Lebron played in pre-season and I remember going to MJ's first game as a Wizard, yup, at the Palace. But we only have .... one game on national TV? Anyway, I'm just excited to have something like the Pistons to look forward to. I love the beginning, even pre-season, because you see what the coaches have in mind, or are experimenting, but it's just nice to see how our team looks on the court as a whole, and the possibilities, who plays, how minutes are distributed, which guys play together/complement.

In fairness those games were both 20 or more years ago.

And I don’t know how significant Bradley Beal’s debut is. They already had KD.

We have one national game because we won 17 games last year. Not exactly the time to be complaining about being slept on.

The Pistons only won 30 games when MJ came back. If he came back with Chicago, I could understand, but it was fine by me! I actually saw the guy I went to school with, the guy who made me all these Doors cassettes and changed my life. But what about Lebron's?

As for the Suns, they've invested so much already, they have to win at least one title. Dr. J spoke some truth about KD and his daily trade demands, setting up his team, his guys, and not winning ****. He won a title after GS won 73 games and lost, so I've been rooting against him just like I rooted against Lebron and the Heatles.

Beal played fine off-the-ball with he played all those years with John Wall, and think he's an upgrade over Chris Paul, who is old and shows it from time to time.. I think Phoenix could win it all, but I'll take experience of Denver or Milwaukee over Phoenix, but I'd still consider it an upset if they lost. Too much talent that could trump chemistry.

And regarding nationally televised games, we had the same amount of nationally televised games, despite getting Cade. I would have thought at least a single game increase, if not more simply because he's the #1 pick.. And then we add Ivey and Duren. Now Ausar.

There is an appeal of Jordan vs the Pistons specifically.

Remember, from a marketing perspective Jordan’s return was all about nostalgia.

Honestly, 1 game on national tv is 1 too many for the worst team in the league from last year. Who is going to watch us? We've got trouble getting people in detroit to care, let alone the national stage.

Granted, I'm excited to see how the team progresses, but we are extreme outliers in that regard. Maybe is Cade blows up and Duren and Thompson are routinely finishing some high flying dunks, people will start tuning in to watch us, but we have to prove it first.

I just think getting Cade should have given us at least one more nationally televised game.

No one really cares about Cade outside of Detroit. He's a forgotten player, having missed last year. And he didn't really create a national buzz during his rookie year, either.

We don't deserve any national games this year. We were an embarrassment to the league last year.

Guys get hype when they are the number one pick but they have to do things to keep it.

A just-okay rookie season (not a serious ROY candidate) and an entirely missed sophomore season have taken that shine away. He’ll have to earn it back. Hopefully that happens.

And it’s not like he was ever seen as a generational type talent, even at the peak of his hype. He doesn’t have the level of skill set that put him in rarified company. And a single player is really only a national tv draw if he’s in that company.

The twins are the reason for our one national game.

I mean when he was drafted. He had not played a single NBA game, but the following season, we didn't even receive a single game increase.

And I don't agree only Detroit cared about him. ESPN and the rest of the media always cares about the Top 5 picks.

The minute Cade got injured they forgot about him.

The only press about him since was after he killed it in the scrimmages for Team USA.

Media moves on quickly to focus on what's going on at any given moment. Ain't nothing going on with us or Cade until they prove otherwise

The media is biased towards what will get the most views. In the offseason in 2021 the draft is king until free agency starts, so Cade got a good amount of coverage. Once the season started there were more pressing storylines.

He was never going to be good enough to be a national TV draw on his own in his first season.

And if the Pistons want to be they need to get good. Only teams in LA and NY get enough eyeballs when they’re bad.
