Tourney Game 1: DET vs. PHI - Friday 7 PM EST

Post#1 » by whitehops » Thu Nov 9, 2023 7:20 pm

This will be our first glimpse at the new in-season tourney format. The first games were last friday but this will be both ours and the sixers first.

here's our group (east group A) with records and when we play them, just as a reminder:
IND (1-0) nov. 24
DET (0-0)
PHI (0-0) nov. 10
ATL (0-0) nov. 14
CLE (0-1) nov. 17

this is what the court will look like tomorrow:

i have no idea if these games will be more competitive but i'm going into them with an open mind. for what it's worth, apparently the first day of the in season tourney had the smallest margin of victory on one day in a long time. the MOVs were 2, 2, 2, 5, 5, 7, 11 for an average of 4.9, much closer than the season-long MOV of 11.

hopefully the guys look at it like a clean slate and upset the sixers!

This tournament is such a farce. First of all, it's way too early for it. The season just started. They should be doing it in January/February. This early in the season, it's just the next game on a young schedule. Players don't appreciate a difference. A different floor is all.

Word is, Burks should be back. That would be huge for the team. So many close games, or games the team has lead late then lost.

Hopeful.

Strange that Ivey is already listed out with an illness a full 24hrs before tipoff. He’s either very ill or something not good is going on with him and the front office.

They should try and put it on in the middle third of the season. Starting in the new year and winding-up by All-Star.

Makes no sense at all because he was "questionable" against the Warriors for the game Monday and now five days later he's out for sure. Makes zero sense for a "non Covid illness"

There are thousands of viral illnesses in the world and lots of them will knock you on your ass substantially longer than covid. Just last year, KAT was hospitalized with a throat infection and missed a bunch of games. Hopefully it's nothing that serious for ivey.

You are correct, the overwhelming majority are Cold, Flu, Covid, respiratory infections, etc.... that most often only take a few days to fight off. But it is possible its something more uncommon that he is having trouble kicking and may require a longer period of time out. It it certainly uncommon to see a pro level athlete out for a week plus for a non covid illness, but it can happen.

Everyone is out, again for tonight's game.

Cade is going to have to have another 30+ point game for the team to have a chance.

With the way the Sixers are rolling, doubt comes to mind.

Really hard to watch this team knowing so much help is injured, sitting on the bench. Last games effort, and play was great. Destroyed the Bucks in both assists, and rebounding, but alas, no victory.

Team, as is, is starting to become more cohesive though. Notable instances of that were displayed in the last game, with the crispness of both offensive, and defensive rotations.

I hope Cade's three comes back. He's gone cold as of late. If he were hitting that last game, he would've had 40+ and we would've won.

Wait, I thought the Pistons already played their tournament game.
I have no idea which one is or isn't the tournament games. I guess it's easy to identify once you see the horribly designed court.

Sixers are on quite a roll to start the season.

After losing on opening night, they are now 6-1.

They are 7-0 against the spread.

They just finished a 5-game homestand. Back on the road tonight.

The Harden trade will go down as an all-time great for Philly. Even had they gotten nothing for him, they would have won the trade.

Ivey is out again... I wonder if this is a "I'm mad I'm not starting" illness.

Jliv posted above, Ivey have a virus infection. I am 100% guessing but maybe covid? He should be out for a few more games I think.

Ivey shouldn't be converned about starting. Right now he is fighting for a place in the rotation. Once everyone is healthy he is the odd man out. Sasser outplayed him, and Monty likes Haye's skillset more than Ivey's. Bojan Morris and Burks are going to play 100%.

Yes, Lions CB Khalil Dorsey had a nasty condition (Rhabdomyolysis) which kept him out multiple weeks earlier this year. And while Dorsey was out the team only reported that he was out because of illness.

In 2020 I ended up spending a few days in the ICU because of a throat infection. Ivey is sick. We don't know what it is and it doesn't matter.

The NBA is going to have to step in on ballys. Damn things isn't working AGAIN. Its inching real close to lack of services rendered for payment territory.
