Miles Bridges - trade deadline version

I know that are very different opinions on Bridges on this board. Even if one doesn’t want him on the team, it appears he Pistons are engaging in trade talks w Charlotte.
He is a young All Star level player at a position of need. I think the interest is real.
I’m not a CBA expert, but something interesting to note on his current one year deal. From RealGM:
Bridges has a no-trade clause for this season, because he will lose his Bird Rights if he's traded. This is because Bridges is on a one-year deal with Bird Rights following this season. Because he'll be looking for a bigger contract than his Non-Bird Rights would allow for, Bridges would be considered a rest-of-season rental by Phoenix.
So if we trade for him, that means we have a verbal extension in place. Otherwise he will not approve a trade and take away the possibility of signing with capped out teams this summer.
Also, Charlotte wants draft capital. Not sure what we can provide, maybe a swap?
Anyway, it seems this deserves its own thread until Feb 8.

I said it in the other thread but all this high character talk and then trading for Bridges would make me question my fandom. No thanks. My hope this rumor is being floated by Charlotte to get more than the rental price everyone is willing to pay.

We’re one of the few teams for whom Bird rights aren’t really an issue. He can still veto a trade but we don’t need Bird rights to pay what he’d want.
So there’s no reason we should have to pay a lot to get him.
And of course I agree with you. Want no part of him on this team.

On June 29, 2022, Bridges was arrested in Los Angeles for felony domestic violence and was released on $130,000 bond.[74] He allegedly assaulted Mychelle Johnson in front of their two children.[75] According to Johnson's hospital report which she posted to Instagram, she was an "adult victim of abuse by male partner" which included assault by strangulation, brain concussion, closed fracture of nasal bone, contusion of rib, multiple bruises, and a neck muscle strain. On July 19, Bridges was charged with one felony count of injuring a child's parent and two felony counts of child abuse.[76] The following day, he pled not guilty to all three charges at his arraignment.[77] On November 3, he pled no contest to the felony domestic charge and was sentenced to three years of probation. The other two charges were dismissed.[78]
In October 2023, Bridges was charged with violating his probation and protection order after an October 6 incident where he allegedly threw billiard balls at Johnson's car, breaking her windshield while their children were inside the car. Bridges' current girlfriend is also alleged to have kicked the car while yelling in Johnson's direction. Bridges turned himself in on October 13 and was released upon paying $1,000 bond. At this time, Bridges had an outstanding warrant stemming from January 2023 that had yet to be served.
This type of behavior is inexcusable.

Snakebites and CGC, I hear you for sure. Unfortunately, the more money that is at stake, the less morals and integrity have an influence on decisions. I know you don’t like it, but I’m sure it is being discussed and don’t be shocked if it happens.

If that’s how the ownership thinks then oh well.
It doesn’t mean any of us need to be okay with it.
If that type of reasoning helps you to reconcile this that’s you.

Charlotte should be giving us picks to take him off their hands.

Yeah if they do this then it will affect their bottom line because fans like me will be done with the franchise under current ownership.

I believe Tobias Harris is offseason plan #1 and Miles Bridges is #2. In order to secure it, we might have to make a trade. I don't think Tobias is going to be traded, Philly are contenders.
So Bridges might become plan #1. And he obviously want to play for us. When Monte Morris got into the game, he went to Monte and they both talked and smiled.
I do not want Bridges, I don't like him, I would never touch a woman to hurt her, no matter what. That's unnaceptable.
But Weaver's job is on the line, and there are not a lot of options out there, and Miles Bridges might be one of the few guys that would want to play for us.
We will probably send Hayes or Wiseman, and the Washington 2nd to Charlotte and we will get him.
He is not even a good player at this point to be honest. He's not a good defender, he is an average 3 point shooter, and he has been making questionable decisions on and off the court.
I don't think we trade for LaVine, but I think we trade for Bridges.
I don't think he would veto a trade for Detroit, and bird rights are useless, but if someone else trade for him, that team will extend him, and we will lose the opportunity to sign him in the offseason, just like what happened to Siakam and OG.
But those are all my opinions, and I am taking that out of my ass, I could be wrong here.

Gores doesnt care about off court issues. This is a man who makes some of his fortune by profiting off of incarcerations by jacking up the price on his monopolized prison phone cards. Nobody is not watching games due to that and people will still watch if we trade for Bridges.
Gores might even see getting Bridges as a way to get fans talking about something other then how bad Weaver and him have sucked.

No thank you. He's not sorry for his conduct. He believes that his acts will be forgiven via wins he gets for his team. He's stated as much.
Let's not be that team.

This.
It's already hard rooting for this team given how consistently awful they've been. Lets not make it a moral dilemma on top of that.
Keep this scumbag off of my team.

I’m not justifying anything. But I am realistic and it certainly appears the Pistons (and others) are looking at trading for him. This is a board about the Pistons so it’s going to get discussed.
That being said, if anyone doesn’t like the idea of trading for him (which I totally understand), starting some kind of PR nightmare for Gores and/or sponsors before it happens would be the smart move. Online protest going viral? Not easy but it’s a path.

I don’t think a team without cap space can extend him. For some reason, with his contract, if he’s traded, the new team does NOT get his Bird rights, so unless they have cap space, they can’t resign him.
This actually puts the Pistons in a strong position.

No, he wouldn't be immediately extended, that's not legal.
But do you have any doubt OG and Siakam alread have a deal discussed in place? Day 1 of FA they will be signed.
The same will happen if Bridges is traded, he is going to have a deal under the table, either with us or with whoever trade for him.

My hope is that all of the posters that get “triggered” every time Miles Bridges name is mentioned and meltdown in each thread actually stop cheering for the team like they keep saying they will.
My guess is they’ll just stick around and keep complaining about him but that is my hope.

Yeah, I just don't like people who are okay with doing things as Miles did. And Miles through subsequent actions seems like he was pretty okay with what he did.
Guilty as charged. I don't like it, and I'll repeat it every time this topic comes up..
If you wanna disagree fine, it's just really bizarre when people try to frame it as a sign of weakness to care about this sort of thing.
