He’s a SF type who can shoot, at least.
Update: Trade is Knox/2nd for Fonteccio

Weaver is so bad. Fonteccio is meh, bad defender, can shoot but doesn't do much on offense and we gave up an almost late 1st for him and he will be a RFA next season, which means he will need to get paid.

RFA = wait for someone else to sign him and match if it’s a good deal.
But self-admittedly, I don’t know much about him other than he can shoot.
Knox, 2nd, Procida is a decent package though, so he better be a solid rotational piece

Don’t care about losing Knox but man is Weaver bad…. I know this draft is supposedly bad but at the same time I’d prefer to roll the dice on a rookie and hope to trike gold then trade for a meh 28 year old.

Knox has actually be surprising good for us, starting even. That Wizards second round pick is also essential the 32nd or 33rd pick in the draft and you could have gotten someone who fell out of the first on a cheap deal to be your 15th man or maybe could have even had another team want that pick and be willing to trade a protected future first for it. We've seen it happen before where pick #30, #31, #32 nets a protected future first.

We don't need any more rookies, you absolutely trade that pick, but with the lack of 1st round picks around to be traded, that washington 2nd was premium, and all he could get was another guy that plays 0 defense and can shoot and will need to get paid. We need guys capable of shooting AND DEFEND.

The move sets the stage for a larger Tobias Harris deal now. Adding Simone means Detroit can move their haul of useful vets and still have enough wing/forward depth.

Knox had a few good games for us and was over performing his minimum salary, but at the same time he wasn't shooting as well from deep this season as he did last year for us.

It’s ok to have rookies as long as you move out the ones that are not working. Expect to see Hayes gone within the hour.

It was the best of Memphis or Washington, not both.

Re: Trade w/Utah
i don't mind it. would've been nice to hold on to the wizards pick but fontecchio is definitely an upgrade from knox. incremental improvement is still improvement, we can't turn into a contender overnight.
knox was always a theoretical shooter that never put it together, fontecchio is at least an actual shooter. 39% from 3 this year and shot over 40% overseas.

Re: Trade w/Utah
Taking a look at the financials, he has a very low cap hold. So we can use all our cap space and then go over the cap to resign him. We're likely looking at him being our backup F next to Ausar next season and you need guys who can shoot well in the 2nd unit with Ausar.
Sasser + Ausar + Stewart + Fonteccio will likely be four of our bench rotation players next season. Cade/Ivey/Duren are likely three of our starters so in reality its just a matter of what two other guys we start and what other player joins those four on our bench rotation.... of course that's assuming none of the "Core Four" get traded away in the next 25 hours.

Now we have 4 guys out of 5 in our core that play 0 defense. Awesome.

Why do you say he is a bad defender?
First of all, Fontecchio can actually play; he’s not a star or anything, but he’s been a pretty solid 2-way wing this year. More importantly, the sense of trading a second-round pick and a halfway decent prospect in produce for him now, rather than signing him over the summer, is that he doesn’t have the same impact on their cap sheet.

He is a very bad defender, and an average offensive player. The only thing he is really good at is shooting.
